    1) James Bond 007 RPG (Victory Games)

I know it's not a video game but the discussion title didn't specify and my game group still loves the game ;-)
  • @The_GIT A hardcore choice! Nice to hear there are still fans of the role-playing stuff out there.

Xbox was trying to acquire the rights from Rare, who made the Goldeneye 64 game - so they could post an updated version of it on the Xbox Live Arcade... announcements were made that it was a done deal, and that it was going to happen - but at the zero hour, Nintendo put a halt to everything, and basically yanked the deal off the table.... obviously so they could remake it and leave it as an exclusive Wii title...... such a travesty.... i almost shed a tear the day it happened - i was so looking forward to playing it again, but updated with slightly better graphics...... screw nintendo.... i guess i'll just have to crack out the old 64 thats in my closet..

Well you can download it from Wii's Virtual Console, that's the only way I've heard you can get it on a newer console. But otherwise you either have to buy a used N64 and a GE cartridge or download an N64 emulator, for example Project 64: http://www.pj64-emu.com.

Is this some homebrew modding I haven't heard about? Last time I checked, a Virtual Console version of GoldenEye was even less likely than the now-canceled XBLA one.

Well I don't own a Wii myself, but I've heard from some of my friends that it was downloadable on it's Virtual Console. But that's few years ago, so it's probably been deleted from there, like Crash 2 few years ago from PSN (but that was because of technical flauses, this is probably because of copyright issues). So my information is old.

I'm pretty sure that legal issues would have kept Nintendo from re-releasing the original GE 007 in the same manner that red tape stalled Microsoft's efforts. That said, I know a guy who has tons of N64 games (including GE) emulated on his Xbox 360, so I'd assume a modded Wii would be capable of something similar (which is not to say that I'd support such an action).

    Games I own:

    1. 007 The World is Not Enough (N64)
    2. Goldeneye 007 (N64)
    3. (tie) 007 Nightfire (Gamecube)
    3. (tie) Goldeneye 007 (Wii)
    5. James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace (Wii & X360)
    6. Goldeneye Rogue Agent (Gamecube)
    7. 007 Blood Stone (X360)
    8. 007 Nightfire (PC-very different from console version)
    10. Everything or Nothing (Gamecube)
    11. Agent Under Fire (Gamecube)
    12. From Russia With Love (Gamecube)
    13. 007 Racing (PC Emulator)

All of the games are at the very least decent and definitely entertaining. I have an emulator version of TND but have yet to play it. As a general rule the Eurocom (TWINE, Nightfire, Goldeneye remake) and Rare (Goldeneye original) developed games are easily the best as they more effort was put into making a great game. The EA Redwood Shores (Everything or Nothing, Agent Under Fire, From Russia With Love) games though I found to be really unrealistic (plots, gadgets, weapons, etc.) and more "action oriented than true James Bond oriented. For example none of the 3 games even got Bond's P99 (called "P2K" in some games) right. They either used the wrong model, gave it half of it's true 16-round clip, or made it sound like a cannon.

    Top 3 will be

    1. Goldeneye n64
    2. quantum of solace wii ( only for the way they used casino royale in it)
    3. everything or nothing ps2 ( best of original titles from ea)
all the rest i bought as they have Bond in titles but lack something.
Latest Goldeneye should of been an updated version with original story
Last point how about a Bond game for every film.
So you can play for example Live and let Die and experience levels driving the double decker or escaping over the backs of the crocs ( how cool would that be).
Or Goldfinger strapped to the table and having to escape before the lazer gets to your private parts and splits you in 2 !!
Or View to a kill fighting on top of the golden gate bridge and watching Zorin fall to his death.
All we need is someone out there with the licence and Bond know how and enthusiasm to put it into practise.

1- GoldenEye (N64) This game is what actually introduced me to Bond in the first place!!
I don't think there's anything good left to say that hasn't been said already- BEST GAME EVER

2- Perfect Dark (N64) Just listen first!! I know many people will say this doesn't count but let me explain. In the height of GoldenEye's popularity this game came out and plays exactly the same way, same style, same makers, even has hidden 'GoldenEye weapons' to unlock. Female lead aside, this game is literally GoldenEye, set in the future-- and I had JUST as much fun playing it as GoldenEye- so to heck with it- I'm counting it! :)

3- Blood Stone (PS3) Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I don't understand the bad rep this game gets... There's something really satisfying about doing a fancy take-down with the push of a button. I find myself running across the room just to do it for spite! My only complaint is that I beat the whole game in a weekend. I'd LOVE some DLC to be released, but I guess it's a longshot at this point...

4- Quantum of Solace (PS2) I actually owned the PS3 version for nearly a year before finally listening to the reviews. I initially dismissed the PS2 version as a 'cheap, last minute port that doesn't look as good as the others'. Well, sure it doesn't look as good as PS3... but it's a MUCH better game! I love it! It's a great 3rd person Bond game in the style of EON and FRWL

5- Everything or Nothing (Xbox) Awesome game - Unlike Nightfire we get Brosnan's voice to go with the likeness. This is like the 5th Brosnan movie we never got

6- From Russia with Love (Xbox) Let's be honest: this game gets mad props for luring SEAN CONNERY back to the role- however the game itself isn't as good as EON, so number 6 it is.

7- Nightfire & Agent Under Fire (Xbox) A TIE. I own both and every now and then on a lazy rainy day I'll pop them in.

In the past I've also played The World is Not Enough (N64 & PSX), Tomorrow Never Dies (PSX) and OO7 Racing (PSX) but they simply more annoying than fun- hardly worth mentioning

I also have not played the New GoldenEye (Don't own a Wii) but I'm super curious, and have heard wonderful things!

Oh I just realized I forgot to mention GoldenEye: Rogue Agent. Probably because it SUCKS, :-)) . Does anyone remember when the game was announced (before we knew any details)- I was so excited; I thought this was going to be just like GoldenEye for the N64, but BETTER looking! I remember how I felt when it was first announced that 'GoldenEye' was the name of the guy you play as. I nearly dismissed the whole game as taking advantage of the GoldenEye name- purposefully misleading customers into buying something it's not. I did own it for a while- got frustrated and sold it long ago. Did anyone ever beat that game? I 'assume' Bond wasn't really dead, as depicted the beginning (memory is a bit hazy)

Surprised to see FRWL so low on a lot of lists, with Sean Connery of all people doing the voice. I've never played many of the games, but just curious what it is about this game that doesn't give it high marks? Also, any thoughts on the GE re-release?
  • I want to play the GE remake just to see the changes they did to the story. Some of them sound pretty interesting, such as having Trevelyan be revealed as the villain AFTER the tank/train chase.

Quoting JBFan626: Surprised to see FRWL so low on a lot of lists, with Sean Connery of all people doing the voice.
Well- the game is good and fun, but it's basically an inferior version of EON- it was like, 'ok this is cool, but EON did it better (and first)', you know what I mean? Basically the only real ace in the hole the game had was Connery- and unfortunately, old Connery's voice coming out of young Connery's mouth was laughable at times... (and by 'at times' I mean, everytime he opened his mouth. lol)
I'm glad to own it, and still play it from time to time though

WAT! You've never played GoldenEye for N64?? Goodness, that game WAS my childhood, lol. Honestly, if you pick it up and play for the first time today, it may not seem like that great of a game, but there once was a time when that game was the BEST. That game reeks of nostalgia (and is one of the few games that is still good when you re-play it)
I actually played it recently and the first thing I thought was 'wow this looks like crap'. Still tons of fun though! :)
