No announcement and the BluRay looks stupid in the set with it's white background. The menus are all completely different (and quite poor) as well. The film looks lovely but the packaging really does disappoint.
Spoke to amazon as to the likelihood of more coming in and the news wasn't good as they currently have hundreds of orders for it on backlog they need to clear with any new stock they get.
Already going for crazy money on eBay.
However I did manage to get the documentary everything or nothing for £8 in morrisons.
Anyway, the quality of the blu ray is friggin' amazing. I mean, you can actually see the hairs inside Craig's ear holes.
Damn - My OCD couldn't cope with a white disc in the set :p. I'm hoping they don't screw us and actually release a proper disc for the set, otherwise they will ruin the set IMO.
Congratulations, @Sandy! I know you will enjoy!
Seasons 1 and 2 in glorious blue-ray. I'm dying to watch the final episode again... now in slow motion :D (BTW I love that smiley).
I am so jealous! I have been looking for them in stores, but will probably have to go on Amazon (I don't buy things that way though). I am re-watching them all now, and am up to The Hounds of Baskerville that I will watch tonight. And after seeing them all 3+ times at this point, this show is one of my favorites of all time, without a doubt. Every time I complete the two seasons I just want to go back and relive it all again. The episodes themselves are so layered that you pick up something new each and every time you watch that you didn't spot on previously viewings, and Benedict and Martin were born to play these roles. Their chemistry is by and far the greatest in history, and in my opinion they are the best Sherlock and Watson yet, respectively. It is just so satisfying to see a Sherlock that is not only empathetic, sympathetic and overall caring in general to those he holds close, but he is also dynamic! As the show has gone on he has changed too as John, Irene and even Moriarty have come into his life, and have either tested him or showed him the value in friendship/companionship. The shows have some of the greatest Sherlock moments ever, both funny and touching in a mix with writing that astounds me every single time a character speaks. Obviously, I could gush about it for hours, and can't think of anything I didn't end up liking about them.
And to think, when my friend first told me that BBC made a present day Sherlock series my first thought was: "BLASPHEMY! THAT'LL NEVER WORK!" And now, I can't imagine my life without it! :)
See you there, milady. ;)
Certain DVD players (and Blu-Ray players) usually don't have the pause, but if your DVD player is on the cheap side or slightly older, then you will notice that momentary pause.
Bottom line: it is normal. Your disc is not defective.
Ok thanks, I was playing it on my Xbox so probably the latter.
@doubleoego I don't have my Blu-ray player with me at the moment.
That also happens to me, in SF and in anothers (Attack of the Clones, I remember). Thank you for the explanation. My DVD is a bit old so it makes sense.
It's amazing. :D
Indeed. It's beautiful and the packaging was great. I had ordered some other stuff as well that even though ordered a day later arrived in the same box. When I got it delivered I immediately noticed a dent on the side of the cardboard box and thought to myself "everyone in there, please be alright" - and they were. Everything secured with plenty of paper so nothing could move around, and the Steelbook even had its own special cardboard box inside the bigger box. Fab.
I think it's the way to go. I haven't bought BR disks before because I thought the difference in price was probably not worth the difference in quality. Now I see it's completely different! Moreover BR players are getting cheaper and cheaper. I bought mine a few months ago for around 60€ and it works great.
I KNOW! :((
All the extras are on br only, and I really, really want to hear Sam's commentary. I could listen to him all day anyway, and I know it's interesting and insightful and an absolute joy to listen to even without hearing a minute of it.
I so need to get to hear it. I have the br disc, just nothing to watch it with (and nor do friends). :((
Not checked out the extras yet, most looking forward to Mendes commentary, incidently Everything Or Nothing is currently showing on Sky Movies Premiere in HD, need to get to see this again only seen via a kind member here on Youtube back in October last year.
Hm, I'm the one that keep on saying all these box office figures should be taken with a 10% pinch of salt, I'm not the one making reports about "300,000,167$ !" :), so don't expect list but... pie charts and diagrams are more interesting indeed, as the impact of a 10% error is more intuitive (while, in a ranking, you can go up and down many ranks)
For instance, soon we'll have such diagrams for SF (this one is for CR) : % of attendance of CR in European countries (with US as a comparison). Iceland seems to beat GreatBritain for CR for good, but I think GB will be #1 for SF :)
Apart from that, to summarize it, Skyfall had a spectacular success in Europe, and the Avengers had a spectacular success in America (North & South), and both did not succeed to "break through" in the East above about #10 status.
A random example : Avengers did about 6 times more than Skyfall in Mexico, while in several European countries SF is undisputed #1. It means for instance Mexico is almost enough for the Avengers to get back what it "lost" in the UK compared to Skyfall !
A good opportunity to remind that just one $ figure basically tells nothing :) [For instance, outside the UK, TDKR beats SF, and outside the USA, SF beats TDKR, but both comments are actually meaningless...]
Really? Now that is taking the piss. That disc was shocking in the first place. The idea that they are still trying to palm it off on people who havent got Bluray rather than give them a disc with the proper extras on is cynical in the extreme.
What do you feel are the differences?
A moment or two during the enquiry.
Nobody else has said a word, so possibly it's just my head being unreliable. Early dementia or something. I'd go and see it another time in theatre if it was possible, but it's gone, for good I presume.
I doubt it's dementia; memories are extremely unreliable and even more so for movies. In another thread I talked of a study that showed how easy it was to plant false memories in someone's head of a movie that they had already seen. When it's a movie that you're excited about, you sometimes replay things in your head and there are slight differences that then become the "real" memory of what you (think that you) saw.
Quite. Does anyone remember the discussion about Dolly in MR a while back? A number of us were convinced shes used to wear braces on her teeth back in the days of MR being on ITV on boxing day. So convinced were we that we actually considered they might have been digitally removed for the UE DVDs!
