No his opportunity has not passed yet, Buble still has opportunity to do a Bond song. When people heard Adele sang, people are reminded of Shirley Bassey song, when I hear Buble, I'm reminded of Tom Jones and Matt Monro, I'm sure the guys at EON would love to have him singing a Bond song.
Exactly how I felt! I imagined Adele's voice would build up into a complete explosion of power, but it never quite peaked where I wanted it to.
More news that backs up the idea Adele might be back.
(Thanks to @Germanlady.)
I wouldn't be upset if Adele returns. Would I prefer someone else? Yes. But, I'll welcome her next song just as much. I wouldn't mind hearing her do something this time that really allows her to belt out and use the full potential of her voice, such as 'Set Fire To The Rain.'
I wouldn't call "a source" quoted by The Sun, and not saying anything much as "news" or backing up anything - just as vague and non-news as what we've read before on that issue. Of course it's a possibility, but so far we haven't heard anything from the producers or Adele or from ANY named source, and as long as we don't I see it as just unsubstantiated tabloid rumors, a type of non-stories they specialize in. They have "a quote" from "a source" and build a story around it.
Because there's more money to be made to have an artist sing the theme. Getting a singer like Adele to do the theme was a massive and record breaking coup for EoN and it's the sort of strategy I believe EoN will continue to utilise for the for quite some time.
Well, I welcome a return of Adele! The question is if she wants to do it a second time. But personally this is such a logical strategy from the producers. I said it on numerous occasions and I'll say it again: 'Skyfall' has not just been a success, but a massive, unimaginable box office destroyer. Part of this 'Skyfall-phenomenon' was off course Adèle. With a Golden Globe and an Oscar under her belt, the Bond producers will try everything to get her back for a 2nd Bond song. It seems like the 'Bassey days' are here again......and personally I love it. This time we have our own Bassey: Adele.
By the way, I'm pretty certain the Bond producers want a return of many other crewmembers. Sam Mendes, John Logan (already writing), Stuart & Kate Baird, Roger Deakins, Dennis Gassner, Jany Temine (My Dutch hero :-D!), Paul Epworth, Thomas Newman...all these bloody Skyfall-troopers are facing such high paycheck promisses during the upcoming negotiations for Bond 24 with Barbara and Michael, that it'll be hard for them to skip Bond 24. Mark my words :-).
Moreover, good friend of Barbara and Michael and casting director Debbie McWilliams will now have a bloody big, huge task now, as I expect the screenplay to be written around a few Oscar-heavy actors again. Just like what they did with Javier Bardem. And to get not only the same Skyfall-crew back, but also another Oscar-heavy cast for Bond 24, I believe due to tight schedules we'll see a Bond 24 premiere as early as winter 2015 / spring 2016. Seems logical if you ask me....
Why wouldn't they do the same for Adele?
Exactly ;-).
The Sun have got some things right in the past. A few Skyfall rumours that originated from there turned out to be true and 100% accurate. This could well be as well. No one knows at this moment.
Maybe but they're still a typical red band tabloid, I'm sure the Daily Fail have gotten some stuff right before. And remember Hillsborough?
Saying that though it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Adele did return. I wouldn't mind, although I'm not a fan of her I thought the SF theme was alright, but I feel there are better choices.
I'd prefer another rock theme myself but I prefer those in general.
I think Bond music should not be limited to just rock music. In fact, if that would be the case constantly, Bond for me wouldn't feel, suave, british and elegant anymore. The rock themes for LALD and QOS were suitable for the movie, because those movies were kinda roughly edged (blaxploitation, jason bourne).
Also, if you take your personal taste out of the equation, what Bond song proved to have more hit potential? Chris Cornell, Alicia Keys, Jack White or Adele? Now I'm not here to say that larger hits are necessarily better songs. But if we hold up the motto 'Give the people what they want' (very Cubby-esque motto too), then I think Adele did this perfectly.
PS: Concerning my personal taste. I really was ready for a grand, orchestra-rich Bond ballad again. One that felt close to 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'Moonraker'. Well, you can't make all people happy ;-). Perhaps Adele will sing a more rock-esque song?
I'm sure they get some things right. ;) Throw enough rumors, speculation and wild guesses around, and sometimes something turns out to be right. I was just saying that their vague "reporting" wasn't news, there's no actual substance to back it up at all - not that it might not be true. But they could invent a line or two, put quotation marks around it and call it a source, or a friend, and they have their story. If it turns out to be true, they got it right! (The paper takes credit.) If it turns out not to be true, oh well, things just didn't go as planned, or their "source" got it wrong. (The paper takes no responsibility.) It's a similar story as the one this thread got its name from. Again, not impossible, but just not based on anything concrete. If these were in some Rumors/speculation thread, it would be another matter, but treating them as credible news items (see also thread title), is a bit much for me. Discussing rumors is obviously fine.
I would not mind having Adele back, just not right away.
True, that's the type of headlines there would be. But as far as we know he hasn't said anything about it, just an anonymous "source" claiming he did. ;)
I don't either. I also don't think it should be limited to ballads. And since we had one of those last time I'd like a rock theme. We haven't had a good one for almost 10 years and before that it was even longer.
Skyfall sold records because it was Adele. Some unknown singing the exact same song in the exact same way would've done nowhere near as well.
SF being a bigger hit than YKMN doesn't mean that people want more big ballads. It just means that Adele is more popular than Cornell.
Give Muse for example a shot at a Bond theme and that'll be a hit (not on the same level as another Adele theme would but you still see my point). Although I'm honestly not bothered about the song being a hit as long as it's good.
So if "giving the people what they want" means getting a popular artist then you may as well get One Direction or someone doing it. It'd be shit but hey, lets give the people what they want.
Feel British? What are you on about?
I don't class AWTD as a rock song. Alternative rock maybe but it sounds more pop to me than anything else.
You mentioned LALD and that's thought of as one of the best Bond themes, often coming out on top in polls, etc. It's also spawned a fantastic Guns n Roses cover and is one of the most popular songs of all time.
But nope, the people wouldn't want another rock theme.
I'm guessing you were joking here. Anyway we don't even know if she's doing it yet, it's only The Sun.
So it becomes even more likely Adele will be back.
Same here. It feels like an intro (a very good intro) but never quite packs the punch that you're hoping for/expecting.
Having said that, I don't mind if she returns. SF was a decent effort. Better than a lot, but not as good as other recent efforts like Surrender and YKMN.
How about a crooner style song? Matt Munro, Nancy Sinatra type thing.
as the movie costs $$$'s to make you can't expect that audiences will just go along because its James Bond. Of course there's a group that will follow but word of mouth travels fast which will destroy the taking if it's rubbish. and using "Adele" convey to me that "everyone expects the film to do well based on past efforts so well just drink coffee and ...."
I would use something fresh like rap. that appeals to a large population. Cocktail Lounge music is O.K. in moderation & I can guarantee you that the current "place to be bar" ain't playing that music. and rap is a challenge.
Will wait seeing as this is from a red top paper. However? If it turned out to be true? It would not bother me too much.
