So if the rumors were true of how both Mendes and Logan were working on some sort of story treatment for Bond 24, would he get any credit for it? I'm sure it's not much just a few ideas but still

It's a shame Sam Mendas will not direct Bond 24. However, one door closes another one opens. This is a perfect opportunity for EON to hire Matthew Vaughn to helm Bond 24. I always wanted Matthew to direct one of Daniel Craig's Bond films. Chris Nolan is another good choice. Or maybe Tom Hooper.
  • I've not seen Les Mis, but some find Hooper a bit point and shoot, as I did with King's Speech.

I'd be happy if Vaughn came on board but I believe he's tied up, writing and readying himself to direct an adaptation of the comic book, the secret service.

Vaughn would be great in my opnion. but I am not sureif he will I think he pissed off the producers

    Boyle Said No

Fincher is American and we all know that outdated rule

    Spielberg is to famous

Nolan is to busy and would want to much control

Hooper Wants to and I think is free

and that sums up all the rumored directors

If i was a gambing man it's either Hooper or a director we haven't discussed yet

It would appear that of all the directors discussed, Hooper's the most attainable.

Christopher Nolan would be great but is it realistic , he'd probably have to commit the next 4 years of his life since plans have been made for 2 tied bond films , which is what Sam Mendez is trying to avoid

Opens up new ideas, something a little different.

Same with me, I was more upset of the change over after CR.

I'd Nolan wants it I reckon it will be a done deal.
But if I had to put money on it today I'd say it will either be Hooper or Wright.

Hopefully it's probably more about timing. I don't think Mendes was keen to go straight into B24 so with a bit of luck it means we are full steam ahead for a 2014 release, although this means we will need to have a director attached in the next few months if filming is to start in early 2014.

As for possible contenders - well as Logan is already attached and writing the script that rules out Nolan who's a long shot anyway as he demands too much control. And to be fair TDKR showed signs of him disappearing up his own arse a bit.

Joe Wright would be a great shout and I would also be pretty happy with Matthew Vaughn, Danny Boyle or Tom Hooper.

After the failed Forster experiment I would be dubious about someone non British or at least non Commonwealth.

    And certainly no Americans please.

Oh and lefty Socialist Worker salesman Paul Greengrass can most definitely get f****d after his slating of Bond in the past.

@TheWizardOfice yet again, your remarks are genius.
That said, and at the risk of bringing the world down around my head, do you seriously think Mathew Vaughn has remotely the experience to helm a project as big as this?
Joe Wright I understand particularly after Hanna albeit if instead of making a fake Blaise movie, he'd shot the real thing, he'd have his own billion dollar franchise to nurture!
Finally, I share your point about non Brits but do you think you could make a small exception for Soderburgh?

I'm actually quite happy with this news as much as I loved Skyfall I don't want to see them repeating beats from that to get Mendes involved.

I'm not saying that he would have of made Skyfall 2 but I think the emotional weight would have been amped up and I'm wanting something a little more playful and relaxed with the next one.

We've got to the point at the end of Skyfall where things have been reset ready for the next phase, with a male M, Q and Moneypenny back the next step is to make that ten plate work in a contemporary setting.

I'd like to see Craig really build on that Bond we saw in Macau strutting his stuff and looking deadly. Another director should be able to bring fresh perspective and not be a Mendes clone.

Sam's success helming Bond 23 has shown his peers what can be done, it is going to be interesting seeing who gets the job, someone mentioned Thomas Alfredson, I believe he'll be busy with Smiley's People and I don't want to see the production of that film upset by anyone not even Bond 24.

I think if he can pull off a feat with X-Men First Class - a franchise that many had lost faith in and requires a certain balances considering the amount of characters involved - then I don't see why he couldn't do the same with Bond. I think he'd do a great job.

It's a shame that Mendes won't be coming back, but I do not want to wait until 2015 for the next film. Get as many films as you can with a fantastic Bond. Just get a great script and hire a workmanlike director like Glen to do the next 5-6 films. Please no more one shot directors; it seems to me that everyone's obsessed with a big name director (at least one that is somewhat well known) that kind of does their own thing and does not create a uniform Bond legacy. Why not Vic Armstrong?

Sto hear that, but I respect his decision. Question is: who should direct Bond 24?

I don't really care who directs. B & M will make the right call. I want a late '13 filming start, for a late '14 release. Of course, I want my own DB5, too.

Why not promote Stuart Baird to the director's chair? He's been a great editor.

That was me. Considering how much Skyfall "borrowed" from TTSP, director Alfredson seemed like a good choice. All in all, I wish they'd consider doing "The Honourable Schoolboy" first.

This is a FINE idea! He's already directed, and done an excellent job (except ST: Nemesis, but the script was most of the problem there)!

It's not my idea I assure you, I've heard others mention it before but you could do far worse. If not Alexander Witt, our second unit director.

Sorry @ TheWizardOfice can't agree with this. I think he'd be disastrous now Thomas Alfredson as mentioned by @shardake, that would be inspired.

This might be a bit odd, but Ralph Fiennes did a good job directing Coriolanus. He doesn't have too much experience, but I'd like to see what he could do.

    Then again maybe not!

Although his 2nd unit work is top notch...!

Mendes did a good job and without him we might not get Deakins back.

But although he's a good choice for Bond 24 director, it's not the end of the world. He did a good job with SF but the series doesn't need him to survive and to keep the quality up.

I'm sure that they'll find somebody else that can do a good job, and we still have Logan writing the script.

And this probably means no more Thomas Newman! :D

Danny Boyle or Edgar Wright would be my choices.

I am disappointed that Mendes won't do another Bond film, at least not in the near future. He did a really great job. Did Danny Boyle definitely say no? I would have liked him, I think. Nolan, too, but I don't think he is a strong probability. I would say yes to Mathew Vaughn. Hmm. I am sure Barbara and Michael are thinking hard about this. Because we want another really good Bond film, with the care and quality that Mendes brought to the table. Deakins would have been terrific to have again, too, but that is unlikely now, eh? Arnold to come back would be very good, if he is top form and raring to go. Cinematographer is crucial, though. Oh geez, let's see. I hope we get confirmed good news within a few months.

I´m not disapointed. I really enjoyed Mendes work. I´m quite curious to see if the bar is really set to higher standards now.
