Your orientation will get no judgement from me, I just want you to know (and all the other newer users who find this troll entertaining or "harmless") that the pathetic waste of life in questionhas posted absolutely vile and inhumane photos before (like those mentioned above) and has continued to numerous times in addition to threatening to kill several members here and spouting love of the Nazis and Satan in endless posts and threads.
Anyway, it gives some solace to think that the spirit of MI6 lives on even after all attacks and fights... "Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will/To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
Sounds unfair, but just being vigilant after recent events. I realize 99 per cent of new members are well intended and want to participate and adhere to site rules, but some of the crap on these pages in recent weeks has left me a bit wary maybe
It's a sorry business for all decent people involved, but I do believe it's someone with a grudge who was maybe asked to leave and is 'taking out some frustrations'
But even then, it can be hard to believe that it's only all down to one individual under various guises ? I hope this annoying little insect can be finally squashed once and for all one day and no return of their little nonsense and (disgusting) antics
I don't have a problem with some new users being a little unorthodox in their ways, such as some recent additions you could name, but the posting of graphic material is something else. Have fun by all means, but know your limits..
Wise words, @Baltimore_007. I guess an Internet forum, clean and for grown-ups like us, is in many ways becoming a rarity. There's a bunch of crazies out there who, like hooligans, seek out this place just for the heck of it. Also, we have some rather young, immature members without any form of 'guidance' who bring playground rules to our forum and obviously most of us cannot appreciate that either. They don't understand the hows and whys of this place and some struggle enormously with that, thinking that the merest remark from us is a personal attack or an act of bullying.
Now, some veteran members allow themselves to be scared away by these punks and crazies and that, I must add, I regret the most. For the best way to fight the terror is by sticking even more closely together. It does work, you know. IFM - especially the 'I' - helps tremendously. Only a few days ago I shut down my PC with a more or less clean forum. I went to sleep for under seven hours. When I woke up, I immediately came back to the forum. Now then, in those seven hours (and in fact, when checking the time table, in under three hours) there had been a massive spambot and troll attack, resulting in dozens of flagged topics, but I actually had to ask members to fill me in on it! I couldn't find any of that stuff anymore. So whatever had happened, common sense from all of us - well, all of you for I had been sleeping - had collectively aided in eliminating a problem. You see, we are a strong community. We make real friends here and we earn 'street credit' by posting intelligently, with a good sense of humour, respecting the rules of the place, avoiding spamming and putting IFM to good use. This core group of members, our so called veteran members, reach well into the hundreds and so quite naturally we can beat any single idiot. But, we need to stick together; that's all folks.
@DarthDimi, I understand what you're saying...but look at it from another point of view.
Some of us come on here and see a new member who has obviously revealed themselves as a troll. But then this "member" is allowed to continue on here and post for several days and sometimes even weeks! I don't think that it's unreasonable for people to get frustrated and spend less time here. I certainly feel like I've spent more time flagging than posting for some time now.
IFM may work but unfortunately we have some members who have an almost pathological need to feed the trolls. But none of this would matter if the trolls were gotten rid of once they reveal themselves to be trolls. For example, once someone has posted a fake pic of themselves that they stole off a website called "dailycuties" and revealed themselves to be fake and a liar (and likely the return of Oligarch, who was the return of Touchmy...oh, you get the point) then why in the world would they be allowed to stay? Why would they only be given a warning..?
THIS probably has more to do with members leaving than the trolls themselves do...IMHO.
I hear you and what you say makes sense. I'll bring it up amongst the other mods and admins.
I agree with @thelordflasheart. If someone has posted a fake pic (and NOT obviously tongue in cheek) or similar, I think they should be banned. Just my opinion, too.
Yes, if they are deceitful about that one wonders what else they lie about.
and P.S. I have NO idea who Happiestinthesaddle is. Guy creeps me out if you ask me.
Seems to me right now, that almost every thread is having juvenile troll attacks. Like its been said before - maybe those people should be banned right away and the Mods and Admins shouldn't try to play it nice.
You can start with me, if you feel voicing this out loud is a reason to do so. But I think a lot of people are sick and tired of having these people around for way too long.
Of course, its more fancy to "fancy" the mods and more save, too. But on the bottom line - you can tell a troll more or less from his/her first post and stil, they are allowed to go on and on and on. Its not, that this forum doesn't have enough members to try to coach those trolls into right behaviour. There are enough decent people here. No reason AT ALL to alloow these people to overstay their welcome. I am not even here that much right now, but its obvious, this thing get out of control more and more and the Admins should take action.
Like I said - there are people here, who would be glad to see the back of me and that's fine with me. But stop feeding the trolls with too much screen time @ Admins and Mods.
A great post, from a great TRUE member! @Germanlady
Everyone, regardless of who they are, undergoes the same process. You sign up and agree to the terms and conditions. Should you break the terms and conditions you will get an initial "friendly" warning. Subsequently, there is a process of three officially logged warnings. After this, any breech of the T&C's will result in a suspension or ban at the administrators' discretion. The only exception to this is what I might term "gross misconduct" where the member posts multiple breeches/inappropriate material etc. This will usually result in an instant ban and will bypass the warning system.
Irrespective of whether we think these people may be previously banned members, we will not simply ban them without evidence.
We employ fairly sophisticated IP and proxy server checking to establish whether users have multiple accounts or are previously banned members. If we have evidence that these members are breaking the rules, they will get banned.
But you have to be aware that the admins and the moderators take this very seriously and action is being taken. However, we also believe strongly in our warning system and we feel that it is fair and everyone should enjoy the benefit of it.
Which brings me to my point. We are aware of our members' frustration at the moment and we do share it, believe me. However, the best course of action is to not become involved. Ignore it, flag it and leave it to the mods and admin to sort out.
Getting annoyed at our perceived lack of response only serves to embolden the trolls and insult the moderating and administrators who work behind the scenes to keep the forum running.
I hope this clears things up slightly for you all.
I have to agree with @Germanlady, @Sandy, and @doubleoego more than the above post. To say that those of us who are frustrated with the trolls embolden them is something that sounds good until you think about it. Trolls here have been allowed to post for days, or even weeks, after they have revealed themselves to be trolls. This is not because of myself or the other members above; far from it. It is because of the mods or admins who refuse to ban the trolls after numerous flagged offensive posts. THAT is the truly frustrating issue.
I spend far more time flagging posts from the same people over and over - who inexplicably are not banned - than I spend posting here. That's not why I come to this forum. I have a job with long hours, a girlfriend, and am also a student. My time is precious and I won't waste it on ineffectual things, such as flagging trolls who aren't banned after FAR more than three offensive posts (so much for the "three warnings" system).
Now, I am not attacking the mods by saying this. I appreciate that they too have lives outside of this forum. But what I am saying is that the current system isn't working. So to continue with it is not only puzzling but also a losing proposition. Why is losing members like myself or those listed above better than losing the trolls? All one has to do is look at the activity of long-standing members who have contributed much in the past to see that this situation is bad.
This is meant as constructive criticism, not "an insult". But I think it also explains a lot of what's been happening here lately. And as anyone with an educational background in marketing and customer service will tell you, one "customer" who is driven to the point of complaining usually represents 8-10 who don't bother to complain but simply leave.
Thanks for taking the time to point this out again to some length. It does clear up things, but doesn't offer any sort of suggestion, how things could get any better. Just because something worked for a while, doesn't mean, it will forever. Sticking to a concept is fine at times, but not, if the manner, around which those rules revolve, change.
They have changed. Drastically. Trolls take advantage of your system and play it to the fullest. To the annoyment, obviously, of many members, who have spoken out just now and many times before. Being fair goes both ways and I do believe, that fairness should first and foremost apply for those, who have proved to be decent members and who shouldn't have to read through a forest of silly and whatnot threads to get to a decent conversation.
Don't take this as a ungrateful critic, take it as some meat to think about. Just take the content and be aware, its meant well.
I agree, though to be fair, it doesn't help that nothing is going on at the moment. Maybe if news was flooding in things would be different. It's a maybe, I know, but who can tell.
