(And I feel like this thread will end up *just* the same as all those other Black Bond threads. ;-))
NEXT
As before, this has been done to death. Bond won't be colored. It's an issue that's dead in the water and this will only degenerate into argument and be closed yet again. Ok, it could happen one day in the far flung future, never say never, but it won't be in my time, and even then, it's between slim chance and no chance. I can't see this idea ever seeing the light of day
Brosnan must of had a day on the Irish whiskey or something
There are black englishmen. Tons. You should get out more.
"Brosnan must of had a day on the Irish whiskey or something."
He must have been on it quite alot as he has said this a number of times.
He has already BEEN IN Bond movies.
He is ROBINSON.
That's like suggesting Jeffrey Wright as the next Bond.
Absurd.
Agreed. And Salmon is too old too. Brosnan seems way out of touch here. Colin Salmon seems to have made his post-Robinson career as the first black that should have been Bond. A bit like Brosnan after he lost the role in TLD.
But James Bond will never be black. Period. And that discussion goes here:
http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1271/is-a-black-james-bond-inevitable-/p1.
This thread serves to talk about Brosnan's backing up of the idea. :-)
No offence meant, but a few years ago people would have said the same about a blonde James Bond or a black US president. Fleming's Bond is clearly white, however that doesn't mean he can't be played by a black actor in a future Bond movie. I would welcome the idea and think it's great that Brosnan is backing it.
Personally I'd prefer Sean Brosnan as the next Bond!
I feel like Cumberbatch's Sherlock at the moment waiting for a decent case to get stuck into but all that's offered is commonplace mundane inanity from every angle.
I had no idea people still used this term.
No but there are some people here I could cheerfully hack up (for scientific research you understand - to track the flight of blood splatters).
By all means. Just be sure to wear a smock. You won't want stains and all that.
Maybe one of us should start a topic with some decent discussion to be had?
Or at least revive a thread that does.
Either way, I'm thinking along the same lines here Wizard old chap.
Excuse me, I've got some paint to observe dry.
Well said Sir.
The level of debate is sub playground at present and I think we senior members need to start reclaiming our forums as at the moment I for one am personally disinterested in the facile drivel that passes for discussion currently.
With the greatest respect, a James Bond film is a set of ingredients with some firmly planted roots, (Sorry to go all metaphorical on you) but if you look after the tree, cut out the dead wood and allow new growth, that’s fine; the new and evolving process of these films has proven his survival by carefully reacting and adjusting to outside influences, to completely up-root James Bond from his British origin and take the series away from it’s history will affect the whole personality of who he is and affect the identity of the films.
It would be like doing a new Shaft film with a white actor, the film might be great and exciting, but the audience anticipation and expectation will be for a black actor purely down to having integrity for the character and not trying to sever ties from his origin and the era that created him.
I think there could be, and should be a seriously good espionage series with a black actor taking the lead role and the same with a female lead, but it would need to be set out from scratch, and the stories and films must have their own unique signature and form their own true identity, which again should be forged in time and not be interfered with once well established.
A new series would also have no old associations, or comparisons; it would have space to breath and allow an audience viewing the pure pleasure of enjoying something fresh and inspiring with the expectation of more to follow.
James Bond is cast in stone; it may be unwise to break an icon by chipping away at who he needs to be. It is essential to maintain the reassurance with worldwide audiences, and the character they seek when returning to see, and relate to a Bond film.
This forum proves to perpetual debate that follows any James Bond offering, which will inevitably come under the scrutiny of what has gone before.
There are some amazing actors and actresses from all races, and this genre can collect from the major talent that is available.
James Bond needs to retain his heritage, a new character offering in this field with an independent style would be welcome and satisfy the public desire to have a long running black or female sophisticated action hero; I am sure that it will happen but on it’s own terms.
After the tarantino debacle you would have thought he would have checked brain is in gear before putting mouth into motion.
Or it could just be lazy journalism
I think it might be lazy journalism. I read that Brosnan wanted Salmon as his succcessor 10 years ago, sounds like they just recycled it.
I've posted very little recently, for the reasons you point out above. There seems to be a gaggle of new members with the combined intelligence of a welk.
Please lead the way, and I am sure that others will be interested in your discussions; if I have contributed to disappointing you, then throw something online for some intelligent fun, If things are running on empty, perhaps we all could do with a recharge of inspiration.
Black Bond? Not only no, but hell no. My Bond fanmanship would stop cold at that moment.
I think it is. Brosnan said that Colin Salmone could be a good Bond after him years ago, around the time DAD was coming out. It's probably some article recycled from then.
Pierce Brosnan has suggested that Colin Salmon would be his pick to become the first black James Bond.
The Irish actor, 59, who is about to appear in a Danish romantic comedy called Love Is All You Need, was asked who might replace current 007 Daniel Craig in the film franchise.
He said: "I've always thrown Colin Salmon's name in the mix. He's somebody I have worked with closely over the years. He would be outstanding and I think it would be absolutely essential."
Brosnan played James Bond in four films in the 1990s and 2000s, before Daniel Craig took over as the international man of mystery for Casino Royale in 2006
It's lazy journalism, the quote from Brosnan almost feels misused or edited. What would be essential in having Colin Salmon play Bond? Makes no sense.
I think this is a typical rag trying to sell papers, using a story on a 'black Bond' to do so.
I think Colin Salmon could be a good secret agent type figure in a TV drama set in London (Spooks like) - but NOT James Bond.
