I can't believe the state this forum is in!

Concerning the question in the title, I personally think SF is Craig's finest Bond film. I don't hold CR is such a high place as most people, there is too much in that film that I dislike. There are no perfect Bond films, not even my favourite FRWL but SF is an amazing Bond film and became one of my favourites. Each time I watch it I like it more.

CR is a damn snooze!!! Agreed there Sandful Sandy. Qos and SF have more excitment.

I feel that in SF a lot of stuff seems to be happening around Bond opposed to him being the driving force and centre of the story.

Yes but in SF it shows you about Bonds past life about his childhood and That he grew up in Scotland and was born in Berlin (read that in a Bond encyclopedia) and about his parents!! His mum was French!!

I am with you, sister. But let's hang in here; it is our forum after all.

I love Skyfall. I value CR highly but I do think Skyfall is Craig's best Bond. But it is like picking out the finest diamond in a trio of sparkling gorgeous gems. You need a jeweler's glass to discern the differences. All are quality performance.

SF is Craig's most self assured performance as Bond, but I think CR is a much more entertaining Bond film.

Agree. It was great and very enjoyable but CR does just edge it. CR just has that little bit extra.

I think CR is definitely a total package Bond film in general and is easily the most entertaining of Craig's three.
  • Yes, and it feels more Bond for me, even though he is portrayed as a rookie. It just ticks all the boxes.

Completely agree. And I'd add the brilliance of CR is that it ticks all the boxes whilst also somehow managing to feel incredibly fresh and original. A trick that is very difficult to pull off.

Not feeling you on this one. Although I prefer CR myself and feel it is overall a better film, SF clearly ticks more Bondian boxes and is more Bondian in showing the established character as opposed to one learning to be the character.

Well that would have still been wrong. Being Swiss is not sort of French, although it shares a border and some speak the French lingo.
  • I'm not a fan of Craig and think he is not Bond. But I feel Casino Royale was the best of his films as it was: something new; mildly interesting as it was a Bond reboot; and an adaption of Casino Royale. But I still hate it (mainly because I'm not a fan of Craig's Bond and the rookie angle) and find it unwatchable.

I thought Skyfall was dreadful and I'm really surprised at the reaction to it. If Brosnan had made Skyfall in 2000 his critics would still be moaning about the wooden Moneypenny, the dull ending, the new family background details etc etc. I think it was because of the four year gap that fans were overexcited by it and in a few years Skyfall will be regarded as an average Bond film.

If you'd like to really spill your gut bashing Skyfall, you are probably on the wrong forum. Very much in the minority. Everyone has their own opinion of course, but don't expect to get much agreement or encouragement of your views. Quite the contrary here.

To call SF average to me is still flattering it by quite some margin in my opinion!

actually he is in the right place, discussing 007. That people seem to disagree on the various aspects of the 007verse is the lifeblood of this forum.
If we'd all agree and anybody disgreeing would be send away it would be a very boring place.

And lets face it the time that SF is going to face some different feedback after all the glory and praise is also to be expected. It was bound to happen.

Yes we can agree to disagree. I just wanted to point out clearly that he won't find many in agreement. We can all discuss and even having extremely polarized different opinions without it becoming ugly. Just being up front about it. If he wants to be in a majority opinion regarding Skyfall as a poor Bond film, he won't find it here. That's all.

Like all movies, opinions change over time; sometimes subtly, sometimes quite a bit. That's normal.

No, Skyfall isn't Craigs best. Casino Royale takes that award, much because of the wide range of different things that CR delivers. It has gritty and realistic action, top notch performances from everyone involved and of course, has a emotional depth that SF hasn't in the same way. Casino Royale was breaking point for me when i first wathced it back on the opening day from that day and onwards i started to accept and find a liking for the more realistic Bond films.

I'm not ashamed to say that CR is my favourite film of all time, and not just because it is James Bond but because it is so much more. When i'm having a sad moment and when everything feels that it is going against me i can start CR and have a good time but at the same time relate to Bond in a way.

I really like Skyfall to, it is at #3 for me. But it can't really deliver the emotional and entertaining "punch" that CR does. SF has a better replay value but it isn't as fantastic as CR is.

QoS is also a great film that currently holds the #6 but it isn't as well thought through and "epic" as it's predecessor and successor.

The stats mean it is the most popular by box office, that's all.
Though that is truly quite an accomplishment.

Craig is fortunate in that two of his films are really excellent; and although QOS has several flaws and is not as popular, he was very good in it. So far, he is having a great run.
