Sounds like a great idea for an alternative cover jacket to me.
I think those were the 'Still Life' Pan covers of the 1970s you are referring to there.
How interesting - @Bounine has hit on a great marketing idea!
If JC are determined that SOLO will be published with the 'text' only cover - an excellent way of increasing hard back sales would be to offer the reader a choice of covers.
Readers could then make their own decision.
Store displays would be a lot more impactful. The chances of attracting collectors high and e-book readers would be attracted back to the printed form.
Maybe the dust jacket could even be reversible!
If JC publish a retro Bond book set in '69 with only a text style cover they deserve liquidation - financial of course!
What a fabulous idea from @ Bentley - if JC aren't picking up on this stuff they should be sacked!
Indeed.
STAND BY FOR ACTION
Warm up the printer...
You're not holding out hope then, @JamesPage?
Yes, I had this idea in my mind all along. ;) That's an excellent idea. I'd love to be able to pick my own cover.
I won't be surprised at all if the cover art is another lacklustre effort as long as we get a good Bond book. A nice dust jacket would be the icing on the cake though. These days, it seems like hoping for a good dust cover is almost as unrealistic as seeing someone like Nic Nac, a chap of limited means, playing James Bond in an official Eon entry.

I quite like the red cover, but I'm not blown away.
Yes, I agree that the red cover is quite nice, but it's all a bit generic, quite like Carte Blanche. Thanks anyway for bringing it to our attention, @007InVT.
Next up, is the book any good?
Or can you?
We try not to here on MI6 Community.
But still I'll wait until I made a decision. Any of you ordered the book already ?
I'm from the NA so we are getting a different cover. From what I have seen it's decent.
Edit: NGOOOOOOOOHhh. Couldn't get the image to display.
I hope it works this time.................................
Edit: Dang It! Oh well you can check it out on the Book Bond blog.
Black and gold - rather stylish.
At least you got the cover displayed correctly. I tried twice but couldn't get it to work. Anyway I like the cover. I just hope we get a dust-jacket too.
It has a kind of Cape Moonraker feel to it with all of the leaping flames.
Does anyone else find the Solo cover terribly familiar?
Well, as I said it reminds me of the Moonraker 1955 Jonathan Cape first edition with its flames going upward. Can you elaborate and tell us what it reminds you of @JackFraser?
