Amazing, isn't it? The lack of bipartisanship in our government has sickened me for years, and teamwork is what we have desperately needed for a innumerable amount of time now. It's funny: for a government that likes to call itself a democracy, we get Republicans sneaking in a new change to a rule that puts all the power in the hands of one man instead of any woman or man of any political allegiance, as lawfully intended. Add to that the fact that both sides act like children, and we've got a serious problem on our hands where the stakes are too high to risk being as childish as our politicians have been.
The Republicans have been sore losers ever since Obama reclaimed the oval office for the Democrats, and because they won't agree to anything unless they get their way, no real progress can be made. In the Democrats, you still have those kinds of personalities that want their way, but Obama and those in the liberal party would never place ultimate power in one man's hands or risk sinking the government as we know it because they can't get their way. They are willing to sacrifice what they want in part to help their country get on better footing and wish now more than ever to join talks with the other party to finally solve this issue, a lesson the conservatives need to bash into their heads, and fast. What we have now is the antithesis of a democracy: a bunch of grown men and women (both terms used loosely) who act like preschoolers when they don't get their way and are so ingrained in the teachings of their party that they can't try to *gasp* get into talks with each other and *double gasp* solve this problem before the American people and the many government employees out of pay right now get screwed even worse.
The US goverment becomes more the property of the very rich than it will ever be of the people.
Scary, eh? OCP for real.
I am constantly amazed how much foresight the makers of an all out action movie like Robocop displayed back then about the future development of the USA. Likewise the brilliant John Carpenter of the 70's (well, at least almost).
I couldn't agree more, although the two party system needs to be abolished in my estimation. It should be made possible for every man and woman to run for office without party oversights, and public funds should be allotted so anyone can do it. These parties routinely squash their own party candidates if they aren't completely on board with the party line. Sounds more and more like just one step above communism and dictatorship to me, if you don't have money you can't compete with the big two. We need more Ross Perot's and Jesse Ventura's, guys with money who thumb their noses at the establishment. Lobbyists should not be even allowed to privately contact politicians, let alone walk the halls of the Senate and House Of Representatives. Politicians should meet with their constituents openly at town hall meetings and bring the issues forward, and go with the will of the people and not the rich guy corrupting them behind the scenes. This is madness, a select group of individuals who are supposed to be representing the people, leading the USA to the brink of financial ruin over ideology. The Tea Party Republicans most especially, should be arrested and shot as traitors if you ask me.
Ever since my brilliant high school teacher taught me of such a position, I have been sick over it. The very idea of individualism is squashed when such "whips" exist, and nobody should be forced upon by another for their beliefs, especially if they don't coincide with those in their party. By stomping on anyone who has the brass to say they don't like how the party is doing things and wishes to change that, we are not being true to the so-called freedom of speech we are supposed to have as an unalienable right. Add to that instances like this where politicians go under each others noses to pass restrictions or additions to some laws that completely change their meaning or purpose, and we are growing farther and farther from democracy and the foundations of freedom it was built upon. Our founding fathers would be appalled, and this is the kind of tyranny they wished us to fight against.
I have to read the Federalist Papers for school, and it's just a wealth of brilliant insight. I'm going to try to read the whole thing.
Shouldn't that be Think On Your Sins?
Umm... yeah, my bad. :\">
:))
I wonder what they are going to do about the $90,000,000,000,000 in debt. This is funded and unfunded liabilities.
Not much, if recent history is any indication.
Pretty soon "Big Trouble in Little China" will apply to the whole country.
That's a big yep.
In a perfect world you're absolutely right, but in this special case (and quite often on this side of reality) one of the main problems obviously was, that the republican whip was not strong enough.
My favorite line of his is still this beauty:
"It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."
I think people who push running up our debt and pushing Obamacare on people should be doing jail time!! Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are patriots!
Don't ever speak to me again.
;)
At least not in a way that glorifies politicians. ANY politicians.
This is the reality of the situation. Whether they wanna hear our voice or not, with them in office doing nothing but bitch and moan at each other....we are headed down the path of death.
Corruption of politicians and giant companies are the main reason this nation will fail ultimately. Who ever is up for re-election the next time I urge all of you to vote against them. There needs to be term limits....we cant let people boehner, reid, polozy(how ever the hell you spell it), mccain,.......these are just a few people who supposedly represent us but they don't, they really don't, they only care about themselves..... and anybody who thinks otherwise is delusional...ask yourself what have they done for us, besides causing problems that we have to pay for??????
