Why was this last sentence left unnoticed all this time? To summarize the facts, that every journalist should have taken into account:
<<< Broccoli says that the filmmakers havent's abandoned the shadowy QUANTUM organisation, gameplayers behind the last two films. Broccoli: "No, I think it's still out there, but we just don't refer to it in this particular film." Tantalisingly, Wilson reveals that they have the rights to bring back Blofeld and SPECTRE, cornerstones of big-screen Bond that vanished in legal battles for long decades. Broccoli: "We believe we can use them." >>>
And I do agree with Mr. Wilson that the old SPECTRE with their extortion methods and the cat-stroking bald headed man are a little dated. But like Wilson, I've been saying constantly that bringing back a more realistic Blofeld; a Blofeld working in today's society, would most likely work.
Concerning the date of this article: Why was this never mentioned on the homepage of MI6-HQ? I call this news. A good journalist would even do some bakground search on this and confirms it in a news article on this website. I frequently referred to it and all I got was remarks from other fans that returning Blofeld would be "stupid". Especially in this topic: <url>http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1760/so-who039s-going-to-play-ernst-in-bond-24-and-bond-25#Item_360</url>
Yes, sometimes passion gets the better of me in my posts. I have a tendency for reacting too much. And I am sorry for that. But we are all fans no? Thanks a lot for posting this @Pierce2Daniel :-)!
Hmmmmm
Don't you think there is a pattern now @doubleoego? I mean, first of all Michael G. Wilson admits back in October 2012 that they own the rights for SPECTRE and Blofeld now.
Secondly, we read here that MGM had to work out a settlement with the McGlory heirs this year. Just to be absolutely certain that no future lawsuits will be initiated by the McGlory heirs that could threaten production of Bond 24 & 25.
I think this latter, extra reassurance could be an indication that screenplay writer John Logan is already using the names 'SPECTRE' and 'Blofeld' for his Bond 24 & 25 screenplays (Remember, Logan is also working on the Bond 25 screenplay).
What do you think @doubleoego?
they go back to spectre then it is by far the dumbest move they have ever DONE. I swear it would make Diamonds are forever and Die another day look like masterpieces.
I rewatched Quantum of Solace last night the fact that Quantum doesn't need to resort nuclear weapons or other such things to control and take over countries. they Almost gave Bolivia to General Medrano in a week! a WEEK...
No Quantum is the way to go Spectre belongs in the past.
2. Austrian actor Christoph Waltz (winner of 2 Oscars):
3. American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (winner of 1 Oscar):
4. British actor Idris Elba (winner of 1 Golden Globe):
5. American actor Michael Shannon (nominated for 1 Oscar):
6. German actor Michael Fassbender (nominated for 1 Golden Globe):
7. British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (nominated for 1 Golden Globe):
8. Or perhaps bring back Danish actor Jesper Christensen one more time? Perhaps as Nr.2 (Largo), where Blofeld obviously is the Nr.1 :-):
ok with the fact everyone does have an opinion what about those who want Quantum to return... Now I suppose you could make everyone happy and have Blofeld work for or be the boss of Quantum but why?
In fact why not let Bond number 7 get the joy of Blofeld?
I'm in no rush. I'd happily wait to see Blofeld again at some point in the future. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I see both sides of the argument, but what I don't understand is some of the reasoning for 'leaving Blofeld where he belongs'. It seems short-sighted imo.
For me the discussion is more about Blofeld. SPECTRE is largely irrelevant unless one was to insist Blofeld = SPECTRE and vice versa, which I don't. Quantum basically function in a more updated way, but they're essentially one and the same. They both have aspirations of domination, whether it's regarding money or power. Blofeld on the other hand, is a character who can be exploited in much more innovative ways.
Totally agree here @RC7. If you are against the return of either SPECTRE or Blofeld or both, then please come up with a good set of arguments. In all honesty, I haven't read them yet.
A) 'We already had Dr. Evil in Austin Powers. It's a danger for the franchise if we bring back Blofeld'
Why is it a danger?? We keep talking about updating the character, not making him as 'gay' as in the 1960's. Adjusting the character to today's global/political reality we live in.
B) 'I'm getting a bit tired of rebooting iconic characters. We have done it with The Joker, with Khan. So please don't do it'
I understand that certain people get tired. But is this the main reason that has negative consequences on the quality of the final product? I think not. It's just that 'we' cinema-go-ers see too many movies I think. We beg for originality. But it's not entirely fair to expect that from a 51 year old franchise film.
C) 'It's a mistake to bring back 'SPECTRE' instead of 'QUANTUM'!'
How so? Just imagine if ONLY the name of the syndicate in 'Quantum Of Solace' would have been 'SPECTRE'. Would that be so.....dangerous? Since when has SPECTRE got that negative image?
yeah but its called Quantum not Spectre.
Le Chiffre from the novel was a fat, dirty Frenchman. Le Chiffre from the movie was a slim, handsome chess protégé from Albania.
You see what I mean? Similar thing can be done with Blofeld.
Also, I came up with 8 potential actors who could be the villain in Bond 24 or 25? What do you think of these suggestions?
There have no proof that Blofeld is returning in B24 or B25. It could also confuse New members into thinking he actually is returning. All I see here is Here say, fan theories and old outdated news.
It's nice to have opinion's but don't pass it off as fact. It's just a suggestion.
You are right. I have changed the topic.
Still, latest news about MGM/Danjaq now taking over all the rights that go with the McGlory estate, IS indeed big Bond news. It ends a long 50 year old feud. It paves the way to future appearances of Blofeld and SPECTRE in a Bond film.
Moreover, since Michael G. Wilson already admitted back in October 2012 that EON has got the rights now for Blofeld and SPECTRE, raises a few questions why last week's news is indeed news. Is it to re-affirm this to the media?
Well I don't think Mikkelsen was very good looking in CR. He had that weird creepy bone structure and that ugly haircut. And both Le Chiffre from the movie and novel were of uncertain origins, neither French, even though in the novel he had been naturalized. At the core, the character is the same, with other deformities in the film. Why use only the name Blofeld and not the character from Fleming mind?
And thanks for changing the title. :)
Le Chiffre from the movie (2006) IS Albanian. Check your facts ;-). 'M' mentions it. And it's written on the computer screen info about Le Chiffre.
I think he'd be perfect. If you haven't, watch the clips I posted above. Gus in Breaking Bad was more intimidating than the majority of Bond villains we've had so far.
"Albanian, we believe..." He is as Albanian as his novel's counterpart is Mediterranean and Prussian/Polish: he may be, but this is not sure. Hence my mention of uncertain origins. There is something shady about Le Chiffre's past. We do not have cold, hard facts, but vague, not completely reliable information, at best.
Beside, although they are very different in appearances, they do have at least some similarities: pale face, user of Benzedrine, feminine mouth and like in the novel, Le Chiffre is not seen as a physical adversary.
So yes, I would rather see at least some of Blofeld in a movie Blofeld: veteran criminal, impressive physique, sinister, cruel face, etc. Idris Elba would be great for a villain... If this villain is Gallia, he is even born to play the part. Cumberbatch is a bit young and already played a nemesis of an iconic character in a recent movie, so if he were to play Blofeld, I would say have him play against Craig's successor. I guess he could look like OHMSS' Blofeld. Of all the ones you mentioned, I think Daniel Day-Lewis and Christoph Waltz would make great Blofeld, if modeled after Fleming's original.
That's a very thoughtfully written, very very very good argument.
Why? Was their interpretation so outstanding that the character should not return? Were they immortalized in the role? I mean, seriously, is Charles Grey's performance so respectable as to be unequaled by anyone? Is Pleasence's? And even Savalas... He is better known as Kojak, surely.
Still I think we should repect the memorys weather they were memorable or not. Let the Character of Blofeld RIP and explore new characters
