It's been 10 years this week since my A-Level Film Studies teacher Mr Handley died suddenly (he was only 35 - I think the final verdict was some sort of Carbon Monoxide poisoning at his home). I remember him well, he first showed me and the class It's a Wonderful Life and we also studied the crop-duster sequence in North By Northwest.

    RIP

It's amazing the connections and friendships we can sometimes make with our educators. RIP to someone who was surely a pinnacle of the education system.

Thanks. I've just had a Facebook conversation with his girlfriend at the time (one of my Spanish teachers). She said she thinks of him everyday which was quite moving.

Sad to hear of the death of the true crime author Colin Wilson recently.

Mandella was in prison 1964-1991. From Goldfinger thru the entire Rog and Dalts era.
When he emerged Bond was on hiatus, with Broz still 4 years away. Some Bond context.

Oh Christ ! Just read about the tragic death of Kate Barry. Yes, John Barry's and Jane Birkin's daughter has died after falling from her fourth floor apartment. My God !

Wow, that is incredibly tragic. Looks like it may have been a suicide.

Yes, he was a very prolific author. He was one of the original "Angry Young Men" too. Bond author Sir Kingsley Amis is often included in their number.

Paul Walker's Brother Takes Over "Fast 7" Role?

Could Paul Walker's 25-year-old brother take his place to film the final scenes for "Fast & The Furious 7"?

The Daily Mail reports that Cody Walker, who has worked as a movie stuntman and poses a strong resemblance to his late brother, has been approached according to the paper's source. Their source goes on to say:

"They can shoot Cody from behind and at distance and if it's a shot they need Paul's face in close up they can CGI it later on. If Cody agrees it's because he wants to honor his brother's memory. There are many details that still need to be worked out, but right now the family and cast and crew are all still grieving."

Filming on the project has currently been shut down by Universal who is said to be working with the Walker family to settle on a fitting exit for Paul's character.

Never watched any of these films (and I never will; I'm not interested), but I'm really not sure that that's a very good idea. Seems rather tasteless in fact, but what would I know? I think they should either scrap the proposed seventh film out of respect or recast the lead. It would make more sense as he didn't live long enough to even start the filming of a seventh film in the series.

They pretty much need to continue, though. They've already spent so much time and money on this film that if they stopped now, it'd be insane.

Oh, sorry. I see. Well, I think they should re-cast, and not go down the Oliver Reed Gladiators road...

What they've spent is insured, though, so if they scrap the footage, they aren't going to lose anything. But, at this point, I'd much rather them cut a little bit out if need be and continue on with what's already happened and work from there. Give Paul another F&F film that the fans can go and enjoy him in next year. Lots of applause will ensue once he hits the screens.

Just learned of the passing of Peter O'Toole. What a wonderful actor we have lost.
If ever an actor deserved an Oscar, then it was surely Peter O'Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia.

Just read about it myself. Great actor, whether in drama (Lawrence of Arabia, of course) and comedy (What's New Pussycat and How to Steal a Million, a personal favorite of mine). A true legend.

Waking up now and reading about Peter O'Toole's passing. Oh how he has always been one of my favorites! So much respect for him. A truly great actor, one of the best of the best for any generation of actors. A genuine and well deserved legend. He was a shining star on stage and screen ... for all the right reasons. His personal life was colorful, to put it mildly. Yet apparently he was a devoted father. And his talent shone brighter than anything else. His work will long be remembered and admired. They really don't make them like that anymore. He was also a fine writer.

Rest in Peace dear wonderful, supremely talented, witty, entertaining, and unique Peter O'Toole.

This photo is from his last major film, Venus (Oscar nominated performance). We will see many photos of him as Lawrence of Arabia; I just wanted to share this one. He looks relaxed and happy (the young woman is his co-star in the film, Jodie Whittaker).

Sad to hear of Mr O'Toole's death. There's a Bond connection here too - he appears near the end of the 1967 Casino Royale spoof. "Are you Peter O'Toole? Then you're the finest man that ever lived." Too true.

And I always liked the line in DAF:
    "Plenty. Plenty O'Toole."
"Named after your father perhaps?" ;)
