@Brady FYEO I think is a strong contender for the most overrated film of the series. I see lots of people say it's Moore's best just because it's more serious but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as TSWLM or OP. I think that the tone is all over the place (Max the parrot, Thatcher at the end, yeah, it's such a serious cold war thriller), the score is awful, the PTS is awful (such a crap end for Blofeld), the action is forgettable, Moore seems uncomfortable in the more serious moments and the plot is pretty dull too. It's not a big, fun adventure like Moore's best films, but it's not a great spy thriller like FRWL or TLD either. It's a boring, forgettable, messy film that tries to do both and fails.

LALD is a real mixed bag for me. I like Moore, the theme song (best in the series imo), the score, the great cast of villains, the voodoo stuff and Solitaire. I think there are some funny lines and I even like JW Pepper. But I think the plot is bland, the action is forgettable (apart from the crocodile stunt), the locations aren't great and it annoys me how every single villain/henchman/generic goon is black. Mid table Bond film for me. Not one of the worst but far from being one of the best either imo.

TB I think is good but not great. I do think it's a step down from Goldfinger and I actually think NSNA is an improvement in many ways. The girls are great, Connery is great and Miami looks nice. I like the score the theme song, and the bit with the sharks. But I think the film is a bit dull (the underwater scenes are so long and slow paced, and the threat of nuclear war? The problem with that is that Largo's plan never really goes into action so we don't get a tense finale like OP. The finale where Bond fights Largo on the yacht is laughable, the PTS is silly and contrived and the plot is slow moving. I read a review saying the plot is like watching a murder mystery where you know who the murderer is and I agree. Everybody is one step ahead of Bond which makes the film a chore to get through sometimes. Plus the villains (Blofeld aside, and he's barely in it) are forgettable. Vargas is a bland henchman and Largo's only defining character trait is "eyepatch". I like the NSNA Largo better. I think it's a good film but it is less than the sum of it's parts imo.

TWINE I think is easily Brosnan's best after Goldeneye and is one of the best films of the series. I love the story even though it gets a bit melodramatic at times. Elektra is a great tragic character and her plan is pretty original. Renard could've been used a bit better (especially considering Robert Carlyle is playing him) but I like him, I love the bit where he holds the burning rock and he doesn't even flinch. The theme song is brilliant and easily the best of the Brosnan era, Denise Richards is a good bit of eye candy, the action scenes are good, the cast is great (Robert Carlyle, Judi Dench, John Cleese and Robbie Coltrane), the PTS is one of the best in the series and the film actually does a great job presenting a more complex Bond than we're used to. Brosnan's Bond was always very cold blooded because it was "what keeps him alive" so I thought TWINE developed him well by having him wrestle with a softer side as he gets closer to Elektra. When he kills Elektra (one of the best scenes of the series imo), you don't just feel bad for Elektra (it wasn't her fault she was evil), you feel bad for Bond too, because he didn't just kill the woman he'd fallen in love with. He killed the last bit of humanity he had left. Sprinkle on top of all this some great lines, an emotional farewell for the original Q, and the Z8 (easily the best of the BMW Bond cars and one of my favourite Bond cars in general), and you have a fantastic Bond film. I think it definitely deserves to be in the top ten.

@thelivingroyale, I wish TWINE was actually as deep as you proclaim, but I've yet to see it. I definitely need to revisit the Brosnan era, but the films haven't given me any good reason to return. It's missed opportunity after missed opportunity post Goldeneye, where the writers never had the courage to do anything interesting or deep with the character, and any great ideas that came along were trampled on by some stupid turn in the plot or moment of levity. Yuck...

Agree with @Creasy. Things were fine as they were.

I say leave it alone, as well.

And I will for the time being. I realize Friday night was not a good time to bring it up as half of you were probably drunk. :))
But it is common sense to reduce the score once in a while. How long do you think it will take us to get to the two last rats standing? By then those two films will have over 100 points each. Only the youngest among us can hope to pass instructions to their offspring to carry on the game.
The matter is settled for my part, I will give it another couple of weeks, then you will all hopefully understand that I am right. Math is not for everyone nor logic, but trust me. Once a month the score for each remaining film will be equally reduced, bringing it down to an average of ten or thereabout (a compromise), but not so that any specific film falls below any danger zone( say below five). In the meantime, have fun and carry on.

But they did, in TWINE. I won't go into detail now but I wrote a big post about Bond's character in the film in the Brosnan appreciation thread.

And while most of the Brosnan films might not be very deep, the Connery and Moore films never did anything deep or interesting with the character either. I don't think every film needs to.

I'll vote for it again at midnight but sadly I don't see it lasting too much longer. I can't for the life of me understand why LALD and FYEO are so far ahead of it. The rest fair enough, I can see why people might prefer them (TWINE isn't my favourite, there are quite a few films that I'd put ahead of it), but those two definitely don't deserve to beat TWINE imo.
