What? The Bond films are iconic.

Melina with the crossbow is pretty iconic. And what about the goldpainted Jill (Secondary character, I know)

Jinx rising from the sea in an orange bikini is also ironic.

Edit: Oh iconic, never mind then.

  • @00Beast that list may ruffle more than one feather!

and also, i disagree with the those who list Kissy as the main girl of YOLT. I know she's with Bond at the end, but she doesn't show up until the last 40 minutes, has two lines, and her contribution to the story is negligible. Aki at least doubles her screentime and is actually necessary for the plot to progress--I always considered Aki to be the main girl

I always see Aki as the"sacrificial lamb" of the film. Bond finishes his adventure with Kissy (in the typical 60s Bond way), she plays a major role in the attack of Blofeld's lair and she does, after all, marry Bond, even if it is fake.

Yes indeed, I would consider Aki as the main girl as well. Also, you're correct, I would imagine my list will ruffle quite a few feathers, haha!

    1. Teresa Di Vicenzo / Tracy Bond (Diana Rigg), On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    2. Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi), From Russia with Love
    3. Domino Derval (Claudine Auger), Thunderball
    4. Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet), For Your Eyes Only
    5. Vesper Lynd (Eva Greene), Casino Royale
    6. Honey Rider (Ursula Andress), Dr. No
    7. Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), Goldfinger
    8. Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), GoldenEye
    9. Pam Boulvier (Carey Lowell), Licence to Kill
    10. Severine (Bérénice Marlohe), Skyfall
    11. Kissy Suzuki (Mie Hama), You Only Live Twice
    12. Solitaire (Jane Seymore), Live and Let Die
    13. Camille Montes (Olga Kurylenko), Quantum of Solace
    14. Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh), Tomorrow Never Dies
    15. Giancinta 'Jinx' Johnson (Halle Berry), Die Another Day
    16. Kara Milovy (Maryam d'Abo), The Living Daylights
    17. Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach), The Spy Who Loved Me
    18. Octopussy (Maude Adams), Octopussy
    19. Tiffany Case (Jill St. John), Diamonds Are Forever
    20. Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles), Moonraker
    21. Mary Goodnight (Britt Ekland), The Man with the Golden Gun
    22. Dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards), The World is Not Enough
    23. Stacey Sutton (Tanya Roberts), A View to a Kill

1-7: Great (Icons of the series; beautiful women playing interesting characters, with ample screen time, in some of the top Bond films)

8-12: Good (I like them a lot, though not quite iconic to me; Severine might qualify as great, except her screen time is minimal, and I've only seen SKYFALL once, so far)

13-18: Serviceable (Admittedly, Wai Lin can kick ass, but overall, these gals tend to advance the plot than really register as much more than as generic action/"eye candy" characters to me)

19-23: Embarrassments (The bimbo brigade... I like Jill St. John in Amsterdam, but becomes a laughable bimbo thereafter, and the actress has an overall air of fakeness to her; Chiles is beautiful, but a charisma-free wax dummy; Ekland is also beautiful, and usually a decent actress (The Double Man, Get Carter), but wasted here as a total bimbo; Richards is a cartoon caricature of a bimbo, eye candy, but as far from even a fantasy-world version of a nuclear scientist as one can get; Roberts... seems to have stumbled in from an episode of The A-Team or something... why is she even in a Bond film (even one as bad as this one)???)

    1-Tracy Bond
2-Tatiana Romanova (On sex appeal alone!)
    3-Vesper Lynd
    4-Natalya Simanova
    5-Pam Bouvier
    6-Wai Lin
7-Stacy Sutton (go ahead, fire your rockets at me)
8-Pussy Galore (even if I really don't like her)
    9-Kara Milovy
    10-Camille Montes
    11-Melina Havelock
    12-Severine
13-Kissy Suzuki (wasn't Aki the main Bond girl? I would rank Aki much higher)
    14-Solitaire
    15-Holly Goodhead
    16-Octopussy
    17-Christmas Jones
18-Domino (arguably the prettiest of them all, but, realistically, she didn't help much)
    19-Tiffany Case
20-Honey Rider (not much help here either for Bond)
    21-Jinx
22-Anya Amasova (useless, annoying to a fault, nowhere near pretty enough and boring)
23-Mary Goodnight (not only useless, but a nuisance)

Yeah that's how I feel. Aki was one of those unique characters as she was both the main Bond girl and the sacrificial lamb.

Not really IMO, Aki had a LOT more screen time, and was absolutely central to what was happening until her unfortunate demise. And she saved Bond's life (in her sleep- omg), let's not forget that.

If we must have a main Bond girl here, then yes. It is Kissy.

Kissy isn't really in the film though. She 'marries' Bond gives a bit of dialogue then is just alongside others during the climax.

    1. Domino Derval (Claudine Auger), Thunderball
    2. Dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards), The World is not Enough (I was at an impressionable age when TWINE came out. So sue me.)
    3. Severine (Berenice Marlohe), Skyfall (The best walking personification of glamour since the Connery days)
    4. Camille Montes (Olga Kurylenko), Quantum of Solace
    5. Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), Goldfinger (Tough, smart, sexy . . . but her name alone earns her a spot in the Top 5)
    6. Kissy Suzuki (Mie Hama), You Only Live Twice (For my money, she rocks the white bikini better than Honey did, even if she's not as iconic.)
    7. Major Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach), The Spy Who Loved Me
    8. Kara Milovy (Maryam d'Abo), The Living Daylights
    9. Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet), For Your Eyes Only
    10. Giancinta "Jinx" Jordan (Halle Berry), Die Another Day (Only up this high because Halle's undeniably attractive)
    11. Dr. Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles), Moonraker
    12. Stacy Sutton (Tanya Roberts), A View to a Kill
    13. Solitaire (Jane Seymour), Live And Let Die (And she's aged exceptionally well, too.)
    14. Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi), From Russia With Love
    15. Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress), Dr. No
    16. Mary Goodnight (Britt Ekland), The Man With the Golden Gun (Lousy as backup for Bond, great as comic relief for the film, and looked fantastic in a bikini)
    17. Vesper Llynd (Eva Green), Casino Royale
    18. Colonel Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh), Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. Octopussy (Maud Adams), Octopussy
    20. Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell), License to Kill (Carey Lowell reprising the role in the "007 Legends" video game was one of the few things that catastrophe had going for it)
    21. Countess Teresa "Tracy" di Vincenzo (Diana Rigg), On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Bond's perfect woman. Not necessarily mine.)
    22. Tiffany Case (Jill St. John), Diamonds Are Forever
    23. Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), GoldenEye (The movie didn't exactly make me like her. The escort mission in the video game made me flat out dislike her.)

Now, is this a ranking of our favorites or who we genuinely think are the best? Because that's two totally different lists for me. There are plenty of Bond girls who are my favorites, but most certainly not the best.

    20. Kissy Suzuki

    21. Mary Goodnight
    22. Stacey Sutton
    23. Christmas Jones
    24. Jinx Johnson

The little "breaks" just represent tiers and what-not :)

The "Elite 8" I consider a true cut above the rest and absolutely amazing. 9-12 are great and I like them all until 21. The bottom 4, for various reasons, are the only Main Bond Girls I don't particularly care for. I vehemently despise Jinx.

    The super Seven
    1. Jill St. John as Tiffany Case
    2. Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore
    3. Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder
    4. Claudine Auger as Domino
    5. Brit Ekland as Mary Goodnight
    6. Denise Richards at Christmas Jones
    7. Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton

    The Rest
    8. Jane Seymour as Solitaire
    9. Maud Adams as Octopussy
    10. Daniella Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova
    11. Diana Rigg as Tracy di Vincenzo
    12. Lois Chiles at Holly Goodhead
    13. Olga Kurylenko as Camille
    14. Barbara Bach as Anya Amasova
    15. Isabelle Scorupco as Natalya Simonova
    16. Mie Hama as Kissy Suzuki
    17. Carey Lowell as Pam Bouvier
    18. Carole Bouqet as Melina Havelock
    19. Eva Green as Vesper Lynd
    20. Bernice Marlohe as Severine
    21. Maryam D'abo as Kara Milovy
    22. Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin
    23. Halle Berry as Jinx

Ekland, Richards and Roberts get such high rankings because all three are uber good-looking plus Richards and Roberts bring bonus spunk too.
Ekland though is one of the most awesome blonde creatures to ever grace this earth, but I couldn't rank her ahead of iconic Fleming Bond girls such as Pussy, Honey and Domino who were all portrayed so well in these early classic films, by other gorgeous actresses.
I do very much enjoy Ekland's portrayal of Goodnight. So much fun and she looks so good in every scene. She also gets feisty in parts. She and Rog play off each other real well I think. Fun to watch. The pushy, demanding, yet charming, a little ditzy blonde has an appeal. Stacey is a bit of a Goodnight knockoff. Rog plays off this type very well.
Richards has one of the great Bond girl swish walks, and some priceless facial expressions, especially when she queries Broz about his relationship with Elektra. She is very camera friendly, and there is the camp appeal of pin-up girl as nuclear physicist.
One of the greatest camp moments in the series though, is from Roberts prancing around in her skimpies, prattling on about geology and seismic rifts, while Rog, the perfect foil, rolls with it, playing it straight, intent on grasping the geology ramblings, while we the audience are paying no attention to the lecture, mesmerized as we are by the naughty outfit. Well done.
Jill St John as Tiffany Case of course is my definition of perfect womanhood. Brains, sass, attitude, looks to spare and healthy dose of bad-girl, who is really a good girl.
Pussy has a similar brassy appeal.
Andress is perfectly conceived as Honey, and is Raquel Welch, swimsuit gorgeous.. Auger of course is Miss Universe material, but also with that vulnerable quality that guys get all puppy dog over. She brings out the puppy dog in me too, unlike say D'Abo whom I find more annoying and somewhat dense.

The top 7 are my big favourites and the bottom 6 are my least favourites, although aside from the two action-girls at the bottom, the others all have plenty of Bond girl appeal. Even Berry and Yeoh have their moments, when they can stop fighting for five seconds.
Bach, although she can't act, is salvaged just by looking so good, especially in that evening dress. Her whole schtick is quite camp, which is also what saves Chiles as Goodhead. Both have a sexy camp appeal. Neither are to be taken too seriously, so one can just relax and enjoy their screen presence, unlike say Bouquet as Melina, who much like Bach, has very little acting range, but is asked to play a more serious and demanding role.
