Ranking the Bond films is a lot of fun for me; it just never gets old. It would seem tedious to anyone else, but I always have fun trying my best to list my least favorite to favorite every time. Cannot wait for next Bond-a-thon; it will be great like always.

@Birdleson Great minds think alike eh?! I do quite love LALD. It's relentlessly fun and always flirts with my top 10. Great Bond flick and under-appreciated.

@FoxRox I enjoy ranking too although it is a very difficult process for me!

Yup I'm expecting QoS and TMWTGG to get knocked back a little in my rankings, and definitely FYEO ahead 1 or 2 spots. I just watched FYEO not too long ago, and I really enjoyed it. The problem is that I like all of them, so it's really hard to place the middle ones. But for Moore movies, I think my finalized ranking will probably be TSWLM > LALD > FYEO > TMWTGG > OP > MR > AVTAK.

@FoxRox 100% agreed. I like all of them as well, and love most of them. It makes it hard then towards the end of my Bondathon to recall how I felt about a specific film when I'm ranking them as I go. And it's sometimes hard to rank different actors' films. Difficult task indeed.

  • QBranchQBranch Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

I like a member who enjoys pulling rank. Especially one with 'Xenia' in their name ;)

I agree, LALD is quite under-appreciated. I have a bit of a soft spot for it.

I don't rank the films too often, nor do they move around much, but I'd probably say TSWLM > FYEO > LALD > OP > MR > AVTAK > TMWTGG.

You Only Live Twice is easily the most underrated Connery film, and one of the most underrated in the series as a whole. I've always found it more entertaining than FRWL and TB, as it stands as my third favorite Connery film. There's just a lot to like about it; it might crack my Top 10 in my marathon rankings.

I have always personally found that a fantastic score can improve already good aspects of a film and "smooth over" some rough edges. A good score is a really key factor for me I think.

Connery was super frustrated with Saltzman (I think) during the filming of YOLT and it shows. He's visibly not giving it his all. Barry's score is SO GOOD and fits YOLT's epic over-the-top grandeur and boosts it up.

I saw this a few months ago and it's definitely coming up in my rankings on next watch.

Ah I see. I watched LALD again last night. I think its still #15 in my rankings. Some bits are good, some are pretty naff.

It's been close to 6 months since the last time I saw a Bond film I think it's about time for a Bondathon :)

I'm doing mine next month; all 23 officials, ranking as I go along. I'm pretty sure a couple of the films will switch places in my ranking, mostly in the middle section.

I'm thinking about doing one as well, I am graduating from college in a couple days and I feel like it would be a great celebration to pull out my Bond 50 collection.

Same as me, and just a tad lower than the average. This mix of good and naff is typical for the 70s films.

    1. THUNDERBALL (1965)

1-8 are relatively fluid, and can fluctuate based on mood. 11-16 are also relatively arbitrary.

Okay, I just finished watching all of the EON films, along with NSNA, over the past couple of months. Only this time I watched them in the order that the books were released, and then watched the remaining films (the ones not attached to a novel or short story) in random order. This time I was surprised how many of them shifted place in my rankings. Hence I'm posting the revised list, with movement noted:

    1. GOLDFINGER (1964)
    2. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963)
    3. CASINO ROYALE (2006) (+1)
    4. ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE (1969) (-1)
    5. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977)
    6. DR. NO (1962)
    7. LIVE AND LET DIE (1973)
    8. THUNDERBALL (1965)
    9. SKYFALL (2012) (+2)
    10. GOLDENEYE (1995) (-1)
    11. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (1967) (-1)
    12. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981) (+1)
    13. QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008) (+3)
    14. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999) (-2)
    15. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987)
    16. LICENCE TO KILL (1989) (-2)
    17. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (1974)
    18. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971)
    19. A VIEW TO A KILL (1985) (+1)
    20. TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997) (-1)
    21. MOONRAKER (1979) (+1)
    22. OCTOPUSSY (1983) (-1)
    23. DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002)

    Liking that updated list :)

I have several similarities in my ranking. Started my Bond-a-thon recently and going to GF next, will post an updated ranking in a few weeks I guess.

I just tend to rank them according to how easily I can re-watch them (ie. how enjoyable I find them) - not by how 'good a film' they are...

ones I can watch over and over again:

    1- FRWL
    2- CR
    3- GF
    4- TLD
    5- FYEO
    6- TSWLM

ones I will watch with pleasure every now and then:

    7- OHMSS
    8- TB
    9- DN
    10- GE
    11- LTK

ones I will occasionally watch for a bit of fun, just for a change:

    12- QOS
    13- SF
    14- YOLT
    15- OP
    16- LALD
    17- MR
    18- AVTAK
    19- TND

ones I will not choose to watch, but might go with them for a bit if they are on tv:

    20- TMWTGG
    21- TWINE

ones I will not even watch if they are offered on a silver platter, cash in hand:

    22- DAD
    23- DAF

Out of curiosity, I went back to the start of this thread and scanned every list to present. The only EON Bond production that has never topped anyone's list is DIE ANOTHER DAY. Every other film was someone's sole favorite at some point. That is interesting to me. At some point I'll see if it holds similar for the lowestposition.

Yeah that's super interesting and a testament to just how diverse Bond fans are. I like it. And for what it's worth I've seen DIE ANOTHER DAY top lists elsewhere. Never seen NSNA I'm afraid.

Going back over it from the other direction, there are five EON films that have not shown up in the bottom position on anyone's list. Those being DN, FRWL, TSWLM, TLD and GE (though they all came with in a few notches). All of the others, and NSNA and CR '67, took the last spot at some point. Maybe there should be an asterisk by CASINO ROYALE '06, as when that was placed last the person had yet to see QOS, which on their subsequent list nudged it out of last place. DAD overwhelmingly took the last spot with the most frequency. Others (QOS, OHMSS, TMWTGG and DAF) made strong showings, but it wasn't really close.

Not on the forums, but once a movie blog I like to read (B+ movie blog) did a series on Bond and they relegated TLD to last in their ranking.

I rate both Daltons classics. LTK has climbed all the way to No. 2 in my ranking.
