    FYEO!

For the best set of action scenes I have to say FYEO

Also LALD and QoS but for continuously good action scene I have to say TLD. The extract from Bond being discovered by Koskov and Necros aboard the Antonov all the way to "I know a good restaurant in Karachi.." is just big juicy action all the way.

    I AM ONLY 12

    That explains the caps.

I think the Dalton films are best for action, but the Brosnan films have some great action too, like the TWINE PTS.

I would go with GE or QoS. The former has some very intriguing action bits: the bungee jump, the tank scene, the fight on the cradle. The latter, on the other hand, seems to be moved along by action: car chase to a foot chase to a, uhh, rope fight, to a knife fight, to a motorcycle/boat chase, etc. The action doesn't really let up in that movie.

I'd go with QoS also. It is considered to many Bond fans as a 'not-Bond' movie for the great action scenes and lack of Bondness, so i'd stick with him too.

Some fans might not agree here, but I think that For Your Eyes Only has some terrific action! After watching it with a friend the other day, I realize just how packed this movie is with amazing action. The PTS, the car chase in Spain, the ski chase in Cortina, the hockey rink fight, Locque's ambush on the beach, the warehouse gun battle, underwater fight in the St. George's wreck, and the finale at St. Cyril's are all very exciting.

I wouldn't have thought this, but after last night's viewing, I'd say that You Only Live Twice has some terrific action. Really every action sequence in this movie is very good, even the Little Nellie helicopter battle, thought it's probably the least best action scene in the movie for me.

YOLT has some great action, like the Little Nellie sequence. But the best one is the one in the volcano.

    Action ratings (out of five)

    DR NO 4
    FRWL 3
    GF 1
    TB 3
    YOLT 3
    OHMSS 3
    DAF 2
    LALD 4
    TMWTGG 4
    TSWLM 3
    MR 5
    FYEO 4
    OP 4

It looks like Moonraker wins here, was I being too generous ?, did Royale warrant a five even ?, I'm sticking with that though

I think you need to rewatch a lot. QoS has WAYYY more action than CR or even DN which you gave a 4 for some reason, while the action filled TB gets a 3??

re-watch QOS again for sure, but I thought that was a fair representation, there are some very good action scenes with Craig, but for me, it can't live up to it's predecessor in terms of action, it's how one merely views it, of course there will be a clash of opinion

I enjoyed Doctor No, some good action bits, was a four too much, that's what I went with on initial thoughts

Haven't seen Thunderball for eons, too much time spent underwater for my liking, only a middle mark for me as it does have some other good action sequences

Tomorrow Never Dies, despite its faults story wise, is easily one of the best action films of the 90's. The World Is Not Enough also has some good action scenes, especially the PTS, as does Goldeneye. Die Another Day had too much CGI for my liking.

The Living Daylights, Live & Let Die, OHMSS & Thunderball are my other nominations for this.

I think as far as a single actors tenure goes, Brosnan's was the most action packed. All his movies were in competition with one another it seems to out do the action sequences of the last. Craig comes close, but his movies are about more than just the action, while Brosnan's feel like they were all about action, and very little to do with a deep plot.

OHMSS easily it has the best action of any entry and it's balanced with a great script and great performances can't wait to see it on Blu ray. I did love YOLT finale when I was a kid but only admire it now for Ken Adam's great sets, SWLM has some great moments, the lotus chase and that big epic climax and do love the parkour sequence from CR but it wasn't really the action that film stand out.

Dalton's PTS from TLD is a particular fav, Bond escaping from Krest in TLD. I don't know action sequences aren't really a priority with me nowadays I could have done with less in QOS and the ones in Brosnan films are like they were trying to compete with big budget american films and failing dismally at that. I think John Barry was a huge factor in making the action so effective although George Martin did an admirable job with LALD, the boat chase is one I recall been good.

I hope SF has some inventive action sequences but also plenty of dialogue, espionage and intrigue, I hope Newman can score these effectively. For me the likes of All The Presidents Men & Tinker Tailor are tense as any action sequences and I now tend to enjoy great acting with good dialogue over action.

I agree with all the Brosnans, they are just super-charged with terrific, magnificent action! As for your others, I agree with all except LALD, where I've always found it lacking in action for some reason, at least good action in my opinion. It still love it though, it's my #8!

    Best movies for action.
    60's
    TB
    YOLT
    OHMSS

    70's
    LALD
    TSWLM
    MR

    80's
    FYEO
    OP
    TLD
    LTK

    90's
    GE
    TND

    00's
    CR

I'm never sure why some people feel that QOS is overly action packed. Aside from some minor action sequences the film is completely devoid of any Bond signature stunt.
The films I've choses reflect (imo) the best use of action, and the most impressive films for stuntwork. Something that the Bond films are famous for, and rightly so.

I'd say Daltons films had the best action. There was never too much or too little and it was brilliantly done, with some of the best stunts of the series.

Others, off the top of my head, would be OHMSS, YOLT, TSWLM, OP, Brosnans first 3 and CR.

QOS gets an honourable mention because of great bits like the car chase and the fight with Slate but the editing ruins it a bit and some action scenes (like the plane and boat chase) weren't brilliant imo.

Skyfall had some great action scenes (the PTS and the finale are the standout moments) but there's a huge gap where there's not a big action scene for ages so while the film itself was great, I don't think it was brilliant as an action film.
  • I'd probably say that OHMSS is tops followed by CR. So many great action scenes in each one (the fact that they also offer so much more than the action is a plus).

In terms of others, I'd say GE and LTK also do very well in the action department. The tanker chase blew the audience away back in '89 and seemed like a big step up in scale for a Bond action scene. GE has the bungy jump, the incredibly short but effective fight on the yacht, and the potent fight between Alec and Bond at the end.

QoS has some scenes that are extremely good (I loved the plane scene and thought it was far more exciting than it had any right to be, and the Slate fight, the OTT destruction of the hotel, and opera scene well all fantastic) but some that were incredibly poorly edited.

I find that some of the older Bonds have a lot of action, it just isn't well done or exciting. Although there are some films with an absolutely standout scene like the fight with Grant in FRWL, the fight with Bouvier in TB, and the fight with Franks in DAF. I'll take quality over quantity any day - look at how much action TWINE had and it had the lamest, least exciting action scenes in any Bond film IMHO.

    Don't forget this

Just going off of a point @thelordflasheart made earlier, I do believe that quality is more important than quantity. However, if a Bond movie is lacking in action, meaning that it doesn't have a lot or even enough, that's basis for me to put it lower on my list. Reason being? We want action! Yes, I enjoy the plot as much as the next guy, but when the movie becomes all plot and no action, I start looking for the fast forward button on the remote!

I'm surprised that many people put FRWL. I don't care if it's a classic. It just isn't the most action-packed really. There's more of spying and sneaking around I would say. Also, I would say that this list takes into consideration the time of it's release, but bear in mind it doesn't affect much.

    TB
    YOLT
While OHMSS has many action scenes, it feels to me like they don't hold up to it's long running time, and has more character-driven scenes in it.
    MR
    FYEO
    OP
    LTK
All the Pierce Brosnan Bond films are almost about explosions everywhere, so I would say they all count, especially TND and TWINE.
While CR has many action scenes and even more than OHMSS, it's still very long and it has a few slower scenes inside, and IDK why but I have a feeling that it isn't extremely action packed, even though it has many action scenes about running and chasing after people.
    And of course QoS.
