its AUGUST tomorrow. ANY CHANCE WE WILL GET SOME REAL NEWS THIS MONTH ?

    July of 2014
-Tom Ford is said to have already re-fitted Daniel Craig, and will be returning for Bond 24.
-Stunt Coordinator Gary Powell confirms he will be returning in an interview, also teasing that B24 will be Sam Mendes 'jumping into the deep end'.
-Visual Effect Supervisor Steven Begg, who worked on Casino Royale and Skyfall, will be returning for production.
-First Assistant Director on Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall, Michael Lerman, will also be returning.
-Stunt Coordinator Gary Powell's Instagram account features photos of him and key members of the production crew visiting Rome, Morocco, and Austria, possibly for location scouting.
-More reports claim that there will be an Aston Martin chase through the streets of Rome, Italy.

But I guess cast, crew, location, and stunt details aren't news.

Its missing the new Scandinavian actress rumor but I've been away from computer lately. Things are definitely ramping up, though!

Let's talk about spoilers for a moment, please.

How would we all like to handle them? I will be keeping them out of the title of the thread, to prevent it from spoiling anything for people reading the thread titles on the main pages.

What I will be leaving out from this thread altogether:
-Images that are not promotional and/or contain spoilers
-Videos that are not promotional and/or contain spoilers
    -Descriptions that are not promotional
    -Character deaths
    -Plot spoilers / twists

What I will classify as Potential Spoilers from here on:
    -Locations
    -Vehicles
    -Promotional photos
    -Promotional trailers
-Photos of cast members on location / on set
-Stunt sequence details / scene details

With Skyfall, we had detailed images and leaks about M. dying, Bond going back to his childhood home, what it looked like, that it was the location of the finale, that it blew up, etc. Nothing like that will be featured on the timeline in this thread.

Seeing as this is the Production thread, it will focus on production details, as previously stated, things like locations, casting, non-spoiling set photos, promotional images, videos, and plot details, etc.

If any of you have any requests or any concerns, let me know.

ANY POSTS THAT INCLUDE SPOILERS OR LINKS TO SPOILERS WILL BE FLAGGED IF NOT PROPERLY USING THE SPOILER FEATURE. THEY MAY BE POSTED, BUT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE TIMELINE AND SHOULD NOT INTERFERE WITH NORMAL DISCUSSION.

It would be great if this thread remains spoiler-free. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing photos from the set, as long as there aren't any comments about them.

Seeing actors on location, shooting a gun, running, jumping, skiing, driving a car, talking, etc. is not that big of a deal. The problem is if, for example, a photograph shows Bond doing one of these things, and then someone comments and explains the entire context of the scene. I think that's something that should be avoided.

I am sure photos will be posted on threads, but I hope to clapperboard ones. We shall see.

As has been made aware earlier, there is a spoiler function that can hide text, and I encourage everyone to use it when referencing any photos or video, etc.

I will also be unmercifully flag-happy when things get busy after filming starts.

I can't copy for some reason, but there is a new Baz article in the Mail, claiming everything is ok now and filming starts end novemver/early december. I am sure someone can get it.

I found this part interesting, from Baz's article:

‘Everyone’s excited, and all systems are pumping away at full speed,’ my 007 informant told me, adding that Purvis and Wade’s script is ‘substantially different’ from Logan’s.
‘There was an awful lot of work to do. It was a big job. The impression given was that Purvis and Wade were hired to add jokes — but it was a bigger deal than that,’ an executive at one of the studios associated with the Bond films explained.

You know what, I think the jokes thing is being made a bigger deal of than it sounds in that, I think P and W came in and have the script more of a fun and exciting feeling; whereas Logan may have submitted a rather grim screenplay. Recently, I've seen multiple shots from certain people who work in the film industry thrown at Bond for lacking a sense of the fun wonderment.

Bond can be a serious and grounded action thriller but it should also be a fun and glamorous movie and that's what I hope is now the case with the script, especially as, people working on Bond 24 are allegedly much more happy with the situation right now. Time will tell.

Lastly, I hope Bond 24 can be like a mix between CR and Mission impossible 4. That would be excellent!

I actually think this Baz chap read our topics here, and when the B24 buzz are with a little down rhythm, he came up with this to cheer us up a bit. :D

Yep, I was just joking. I remember he was the first to say that Naomie would be Penny.

Of course the announcments of stunt coordinators, first assistant directors and visual effects artists are news. I was thinking more along the lines of confirmed
news with regards to casting and locations etc. The Rome chase is only a rumour at this point and has not been confirmed. Knowing the cinematographer and the film editor would also be some real news at this point aswell.

Purvis and Wade had to put their all in to resue this then did they? If so, and the result speaks for itself in a little over a year's time, I wonder what people will make of them then. It's a 'substantially different' script, now we're told.

I bet Mendes had making up to do, as we all know this is the exact reverse of what happened on the last film. Add the fact that everyone else valued Purvis and Wade's work and I would have loved to know how that went down.

So, 'everyone's excited and all systems are pumping away at full speed' just like mine. Roll on December. Only four months to go!

I was thinking about this earlier after reading Baz' scoop.

Why exactly are Purvis and Wade given such a bad wrap exactly? We've never had a Bond movie where their sole work was used and not tampered with. With Twine, other writers were brought in and it was Apted's wife that made a hash of things. With DAD, everything wrong with that movie was due to Tamahori's "contributions". CR was great as lots of Fleming was used and Haggis was involved, QoS was affected by the writer's strike, SF had Logan involved but to what extent? And now, P&W were essentially begged back to save the day????

We all know the duo know their Fleming and surely as flakey as the producers can be with some if their decisions, to keep these 2 on board as writers for as long as they've been with the series must mean they hold a degree of value that many of us here have missed. Personally, I think these guys have been unfairly maligned and don't fully deserve a lot of the heat they've recieved but I guess time will tell once this film comes out.

This is my favourite bit from the article: "I’ve heard from several sources that Mendes almost went down on his knees to persuade Purvis and Wade to return to the Bond fold. The director had a lot of making up to do, I was told."

This confirms that Mendes too wanted Purvis and Wade back and it was not just the producers' decision to have a script rewrite.

I have no idea why P&W have got such a bad wrap over the years. They are not the best writers but they can hardly be blamed for the the more banal recent entries.

    - I for one really love TWINE and think their contribution on the script was great. Their draft of the script is online and it reads very well.
    - DAD was not their fault. They were working with an unruly director who really didn't know what he was doing. Film is director's medium and I know for fact both P&W regret how DAD came together as Tamahori really bulldozed down a lot of their ideas.
    - CR was pretty much all P&W except for the more meaty character segments. For me the plot and structure of CR is rather good not brilliant but good. I actually think that Haggis was the one who gave that film the magic it has.
-QOS was affected by the writer's strike and ironically after saving CR I think Haggis pressed the self-destruct button here. There is a little too much Haggis in the script.
    - From what I've heard P&W came up with the story and structure of SF but all the dialogue is Logan's. If that is the case than the actual plotting of SF is first rate and the story they came up with is rather marvellous.

I'm glad they're back. They know the Bond brand well and getting them to bring out the 'Bond' in a Bond script always felt like an inevitable thing. I think it's likely that they will use the next 4 months to keep working on the script and it's even more likely Logan will return as well.
  • So Mendes ditched Purvis and Wade (which is why he had making up to do) but he didn't like Logan's draft much at all so he asked them back. Is that what happened?

I think they're a bit hit and miss but I like Purvis and Wade and they are good writers. TWINE and CR are both brilliant and I also thought Let Him Have It (a non Bond film they wrote) was really good.

Finland is not considered part of Scandinavia.

Hah! Where did you get that information from? I'm from Finland and we're very much a part of Scandinavia ;)

Regarding Spielberg ; I watched the Temple of Doom today, and for some reason my thoughts drifted to this particular thread showing Dan going to Spielberg's birthday party. Spielberg is too expensive director these days...but... since Daniel and Steven seem to be buddies nowadays, and Craig has previously recruited director and actor from party / event, would it be stretch to imagine he could recruit director of Spielberg's caliber from , say a birthday party and have that director work with a cut salary. Say, if for everyone's surprise Dan would get Spielberg to direct his last Bond movie. Wouldn't that be something.

Very unlikely though. But that just crossed my mind today.

  • Slightly off subject, but I've been wondering - will Daniel Craig ever get his own Fiona Volpe type character?
Its not impossible, I believe. But a good idea? C&A could have been pretty much Indie in the western world and even though Steven didn't direct, he didn't see all the flaws in the script neither - as none of the others, I might add.

Well, it would be a dream come true for me. Spielberg finally directing Bond movie and Dan going out with a bang.

Well, southwestern part of Finland is a part of Scandinavia, and we have historical association with the Scandinavian countries. But I'm not here to talk about geography or history. Not too fussed about things like that. I'm here for Bond related things ;)

I'm ok with Purvis and Wade doing substantial changes to Logan's script. While I love the characters and dialogues of Logan, his plots are often rather thin.
  • Logan makes everything really dull and somber, I'm glad Purvis and Wade are rewriting it.

If P&W wade are indeed writing the movie alone like as with DAD, iam curious or things i dislike because it hate it and not things i dislike because for love of franchise no longer be in the movie.
