Bash your favorite Bond film and/or defend your least favorite

Go ahead! Give it a try!

My favorite Bond film, Casino Royale:
My oh my, what a train wreck of a James Bond film. Firstly, Daniel Craig simply is the worst Bond in franchise's history; he simply does not look like James Bond in the slightest. Add that to the fact that his co-stars are all a whole foot taller than he is. The action is boring, the direction is middling and there is absolutely no suspense during the all heralded card game. Clearly Bond's worst outing.

My least favorite Bond film, The Man with the Golden Gun:
Pure and classic Bond at its best. The Man with the Golden Gun epitomizes what James Bond should always be: classy, suspenseful and just a tad campy. Roger Moore is the best Bond the franchise has ever had, he is convincing in every scene he is in. The pacing of the film is just outstanding; there is never a dull moment. Oh, and how could I forget the fabulous slide whistle and return of J.W. Pepper, my personal favorite of Bond's allies? Golden Gun is a true classic.

Felt kind of good, actually...

Hmm i always thought DAD up until Cuba was alright. I thought it went down hill after that. Having said that, I think its nonetheless an entertaining movie. When it first came out i was in 7th grade and thought it was the best bond yet... However in retrospect...

My biggest flaw with CR is that it definitely begins to feel drawn out at the end. I think the first act of the movie was too long. They should've condensed the miami sequence or thought of something entirely different. I remember when i first saw it- i thought it was a little confusing that Le Chiffre was planning on blowing up the plane. He should have said it to Dimitrios

Haha! This is different, but I'll give it a try.

    My favorite Bond film, Goldfinger:
What a horrible film!... okay, I can't do this... I just threw up in my mouth alittle.

My favourite bond film: LICENCE TO KILL. By far the worst film ever. Dalton clearly doesnt understand that bond is supposed to be a 2 dimensional superman, Bond isn't MEANT to be human. dalton sucked the life and humour out of the bond films and almost killed the franchise. Worst bond, worst film

my least favourite bond film: DIE ANOTHER DAY. Cmon people. Halle Berry is an awesome actress, madonna did a great job on the song and in her cameo. And the invisible car, genius, absoloutley genius. the only way they could have made this masterpiece any better is if they set the finale in space!!!!

now excuse me, I'm going to go shoot myself because of the horrible things I just said(although i hated DAD i liked brosnan as bond, for the record).

Ah, for f*ck's sake, why would they even MAKE Casino Royale?! Jesus Christ, 2 hours and 40 minutes of outright bullsh*t! And f*cking Judy Dench is in it AGAIN!! Oh, Lord, EON Productions, why did you go wrong?!?! (AKA, Casino Royale, favorite film)

And then there's that beautiful work of art, Die Another Day. God, do I love that movie. No plot besides what was stolen from Fleming's Moonraker, horrible action scenes that don't even make sense half the time, and then there's Zhao, the sh*ttiest henchman in the history of henchmen. This is pure movie gold. (AKA, Die Another Day, least favorite film)

Y'know, maybe those assholes at EON shouldn't have made GoldenEye, what with all those interesting plot points and Trevelyn being a good villain and all. And how could anybody argue with the sheer brilliance of A View to a Kill? Damn was that movie so incoherent it was good.

(second favorite film, GoldenEye; second least favorite film, A View to a Kill)
  • I thought Live and Let Die was abysmal, first have they have some music from Paul McCartney, he was in some garbage band called the Beatles some time back who did absolutely nothing for the music industry and then after that we see Jane seymour, what an horrendous woman she is, makes me want to vomit, If I was Bond in that movie I would rather go to bed with John Wayne Bobbitts estranged wife than spend a night with her

I hate crocodiles and alligators, I hate Southern america, that chase through the swamps was awful, bad guys were non existent, I don't like inflatable seats, i hate sharks, I hate Jazz music and scarecrows and magnetic watches, Moore was terrible in this, I turned it off near the end and put on Die another Day it was so goddamn awful. I hate Paul McCartney and wish a plague on the last surviving Beatles

    -------------------

I thought Quantum of Solace was awesome, surely the best piece of cinema since 'The Third Man', Bond is at his best here, to hell with Connery playing it straight and using his wits, No, I loved to see Bond racing along at 130mph violating traffic laws and leaping around with a rocket up his ass and throwing people through windows and causing destructive mayhem, we had the best villain ever here, better than Goldfinger, Dr No and those two camp guys from Diamonds put together, he was no scary I had to hide behind some empty theater seats whenever he was screen, hats off to everyone involved in coming up with someone so damn intimidating, The Bond girls were excellent, best ever, the ending had me running out of superlatives, guy in desert with can of motor oil, that's what we what to see, none of that Moonraker rubbish with guys in spacesuits, did I mention the music was awesome, people have said it's not above some talentless x-factor style plastic faced garbage, but that's simply not true, I enjoyed it so much I even went back to see it another eight times while it was still on at local theaters, the people who made this and everyone involved should be given lifetime honor awards, I was speechless beyond admiration

    Goldeneye (1/22):

Wich smart ass call his house Goldeneye and who think this be good name for a Bond movie. I don't see any Golden Eye in that movie, mabey some twinling in the eyes of Albert Broccoli 8-> see playing Brosnan as James Bond and the money who it brings.

    Thunderball (22/22):

Planetearth, no Thunderball be the first with those long very long shots of beautiful sharks and water. The editor be amazed by it that he vergot there be some stil some work to do. The beach scene's blow me a way and the title song of this movie so very good. A view to a kill mabey be a better title for this movie and Nobody Does it better mabey have sound better for this movie and who knows it better then Peter ( R. Hunt)

    CR 2006 (21/22):

Is this a Bond movie ? No it isn't. We get a view in the sports life of James Bond. Number 007 is on the run. The ultimate changelange of sports. A new tact of sport who be the new model for young people. Wow! A ultimate triatlon where this time a bike is replaced by a car. A monkey can't have done it better. And where winners be there also be losers. The Bitch is dead but the hero survived. End time: 2hr26minutes02seconds. It cost almost a heart atack but he don't give dam and there is always M.

This ought to be a fun concept.

    Bash:

    Casino Royale:

A blonde Bond? Are you freaking kidding me? Am I suppose to believe that Bond is new on the job after 20 Bond films? Yeah, let's have a PTS filmed in black and white with Bond killing some guy in a men's room. Give me a break on that African rundown chase. We all know it was filmed in front of a green screen. A man worthy of playing the Bond role does not run off halfway through seducing a stunning woman. The main villian, the baddest part of him is that he cries blood. Oh please. Oh and the poker game. One doesn't survive a heart attack and come back to win an hour later. A hand involving a straight flush, two full houses and a flush has never happened. Craig, please note that when you order a dry martini, you say shaken not stirred instead of "Do I look like I give a damn". Eight car flips, oh wow. CR just had to go over the top with yet another stunt. If I was having my testicles bashed, I wouldn't be making jokes and neither would you. Eva Green was no Diana Rigg. Bond must be an idiot if he let his little brain do the thinking for his big brain and didn't even gather a hint that Vesper may be working for Quantum. The viewer saw it a mile away. And how did Bond not get arrested or at least fired after losing all that money? How does the former lead singer of Soundgarden get the job of singing the main title song when there are plenty of better musicians out there? Lastly. Bond films have humor. Pick any random five seconds of 9/11 coverage and you'll find more humor than all of CR '06.

Wow, that was easier than I thought it would be. Darn it, this made me reconsider my favorite Bond film.

    Praise:

    Die Another Day

I loved the originality of DAD and the nods to the previous 19 Bond films. The torture scene was an original concept and it did a brilliant job sequing into the film. Having a duel idenity main villian was a clever idea. THis was Pierce Brosnan's best performance as Bond. Halle Berry was wonderful to look at. Rosamund Pike played her role as a double agent brilliantly. The fencing scene was the highlight of the film. Graves and Bond tore up the place. I loved the sets with the Ice Palace.

Um, um....sorry that's all I can defend on DAD without coming across as a pathological liar and projectile vomiting my Egg McMuffin on my computer.
  • Hmmm...well, the locations in Goldfinger are a bit drab, but Miami and Switzerland are frigging awesome. The Hood's Convention is pretty lame, but Gert Frobe saves the scene with some brilliantly mad acting.

That's basically everything negative I can say about GF.

As for DAD...well, the girls are perfect eye candy, but Rosamund Pike's the only one who can act. The beginning's not bad, but I've always forgotten about that by the time the laser scene comes on. The lasers sound like chihuahuas, for Pete's sake.

Yeah, I like that idea. I just couldn't possibly even pretend to "bash" GoldenEye, that is, if the two words can even be joined in the same sentence!
  • Bash

FRWL - There was little to no climax, Red Grant was not very intimidating, pacing was horrible, was overall boring.

Goldeneye - Alec's betrayal was not well written, the game had a better soundtrack, Boris was completely unnecessary and irrational, Both Famke Janssen and Izabella Scorupco were underused. I don't understand how the hell he survived the shot either.

Casino Royale - The ending was not very well edited, Mr. White was not made very clear who he was, Bond was too emotional, not enough humor, no gadgets, no Q, no Moneypenny, the torture scene was horribly done.

    Defend

Die Another Day - Had a great opening sequence, the villain was actually quite credible, Rosamund Pike was hot, Pierce was at his best in terms of acting, the car chase on the ice and the fencing scene were great

    FAVORITE : OHMSS
what a bunch of sentimental crap. Bond saying "I love you". Please. The dubbing of Lazenby's voice with Baker? Bad and sloppy. Bond in a kilt? what poor taste in costumes.
    I can't do this anymore.

    My least favorite Movie: MOONRAKER
I really liked the way Jaws came in and added all that comedy relief. It was really funny seeing him go over the waterfalls. Drax is my favorite(yeeck) villian. He is so cold and such a classic villian. Making Jaws into a good guy at the end-pure genius.

    Okay, thats it.
    Peace to you all!

Agreed. This has potential but instead of making a bunch of samey over-the-top joke posts, this thread would be much more valuable if we took the prompt seriously. Go through and find the stuff you don't like in your favorite movie and actually dissect it. Then go through and literally defend your least favorite. You may even learn something about your tastes.

Like being at university, when you are assigned the task of say, doing a research paper on why you think the US should be in Iraq, your job is to make it work, regardless of your feelings. And, as I'm sure many of you know from experience, you'll be amazed at how well you can actually defend something you hate and vice versa.

I vote we reboot this read here. Otherwise isn't this just sound and fury (spam)?

I don't think the the intent was to lie about how you feel on the films, just point out whats bad in your favorite, and whats good in your hated.
Intent is what you make of it: you can post in this thread how ever you see fit.

You can write a 100% sarcastic review of your favorite/least favorite films or you could find the 'good' in your least favorite and the 'bad' in your favorite....or both!

It is just a thread to have a bit of fun!

I think Westbrook had the right idea on what to do here, merely note the most positive points of your least favorite Bond release and vice versa, although it's a bit late for it from most above replies, I include myself in that. So, trying again -

Die Another Day - decent pre credits sequence, Bond (Brosnan) puts in a very good performance (albeit for all of three minutes), exciting and frantic swordfight sequence, neat twist when Frost reveals herself to be in cahoots with Graves, and now I'm really struggling..

Live and Let Die - ridiculous ending, not exciting enough (ending), confusing as to where they were actually going and nothing is fully explained and too much ambiguity, the revelation of Dr Kananga from the far better Mr Big character, not enough screen time for Jane Seymour, maybe the pre credits sequence could of been expanded and a little more lively. Seems terribly dated from a 21st cenutry perspective, as with the stereotypes if we can include it

I'll bash TLD as a stupid syrupy lovey-dovey Bond that is past its time and needed to grow out of the sentimental 60's and Fleming connection.

And praise MR as a stand-out a of big ballsy production & entertainment with awesome FX that thrill to this day!

The entry into cuba is enjoyable with the convertible and salsa music. The frozen ice zoom when we arrive in iceland is impressive.

    Favourite fyeo

The fight at the icerink is lacklustre and unimpressive. The retrieval of the atac from inside the st georges drags.

    From Russia with Love

Watching Sean Connery play golf would have been more engaging than this mess of a film. Connery would have certainly been more interested given his wooden performance here and Robert Shaw shows that like Daniel Craig 40 years later, he can't pull off the blonde killer thing well.

Part of this film takes place on the Orient Express. Appropriate as its one long train wreck.

    Die Another Day

Special effects are out of this world. Brosnan has never looked in better shape and Halle Berry joins the likes of Britt Eckland, Denese Richards and Tanya Roberts as she creates an intelligent, resourceful, witty character who is bound to go down in history as one of the all time great Bond girls.

That Scottish bloke is way overrated. Looks like he should be driving a truck or at the local boozer and can't seem to hide his accent. He'd become a fat bloater by his last film who had wandered away from his drinking buddies at the golf club bar.

...and don't get me started on the modern muscleman pouter Bond we have now or the pretty boy Irishman before him ;)

What a stink bomb! John Barry was obviously waaay past his prime here and it shows...or sounds. The score has no tension or beauty, and whoever thought to bring that Satchmo hack into the Bondoverse needs to be sentenced to life in front of a firing squad. And Switzerland? Piz Gloria? Please! What were they thinking? Surely the dreariest, least original and most hideous Bond locales of all time. And Blofeld should have been retired after TB. Really one of the weakest villains to spring from the pen of Fleming, or was it McClory? Finally, the action is pure ass. The skiing sequences look like they were shot by some amateur with a Polaroid Land Camera. What a load of maroons this production team was.

    Least Fav: DAD

Oh. My. God. Purest Bondian glory. I just can't get over Halle Berry. Easily the most marvelous Bond girl of 'em all. The fact she didn't win Best Actress is an indictment on the Oscars that that institution will never live down. I'm surprised the NAACP didn't team up with the Crips and Bloods to burn down Hollywood. I certainly wouldn't have blamed 'em! But as hard as it is to top Jinx, Purvis and Wade managed to with that scintillating script. "Yo mama!"--sheerest genius blazing from the pens of Purvis and Wade, the Shakespeare and Dostoevsky of screenwriting. And what can one say about the amazing CGI special effects that hasn't already been said. Mindbogglingly realistic. Hell, I wouldn't have even recognized it for CGI if I hadn't been told. Put it all together and you've not only got the Best. Bond. Of. All. Time., but the best action film ever to hit the Silver Screen.

Never ever thought I'd say this but well said Samainsy!

Despite Creasy, Skyfall and JWestbrooks efforts to turn this into an interesting thread where one criticises your favourite and defends your most hated this just seems to be a somewhat futile exercise in rather juvenile humour.
