That is a nice poster of Daniel Craig. Evokes memories of Roger Moore in Live And Let Die. Nice piece of nostalgia. I do hope the new movie is not littered with references to the past though. It gets boring. How many times can we be reminded that James Bond drives an Aston Martin DB5 after all. Less is more.
Amen to that, Sir.
Thank you. With James Bond in a less familiar attire is it possible that he will share more in common with live and let die. James Bond does not wear a tuxedo in live and let die. Will it be the same in spectre I wonder. Whilst not my favourite James Bond. Daniel Craig has grown on me during his tenure. No-one will ever beat Sean Connery though.

I don't know an example of a Bond teaser poster that didn't work well. All of them contributed to creation of brand awareness and were fuelling public interest in the film. I agree that there's a slight "Calvin Klein"-vibe to it, but then again....the character James Bond 007 is a style icon himself.
Moreover, I do think the photoshopping adds a distinct stylish, elegant, though deadly atmosphere to the teaser poster. No casino-vibe, but certainly an "I'm on her Majesty's mission, and I do it in style!"-vibe. The revenge-part seems to be gone. Which also corresponds to what Sam Mendes said: "Bond is now on a mission, from the start".
Photoshopping has always caused some controversy with the Daniel Craig (teaser) poster. It has been done with the CR-teaser, more succesfully. For me, it also works fine with this SPECTRE-teaser. But, in my opinion, the photoshopping didn't quite work with the QOS-teaser:
But that has also to do with the fact that Bond in an elegant Tom Ford suit, holding a big machine gun doesn't really work. It is contradictory. Like Eggsy (Kingsman) in a double-breasted suit.
Regarding the turtleneck...I love it. I said before that Bond constantly wearing a suit in "Skyfall" seemed to be out of place. In my opinion I was hoping more for a "spy-at-work outfit". I can see Bond running in this outfit in Whitehall, just not like it was done in "Skyfall". For me that looked like one big forced showcase of suits (Although I did like the slim-fit, cut-to-the-bone approach).
Also a nice detail, Bond's / Q's signature Walther PPK/S with build-in palm sensor seems to have returned. Now that's what I call a nice reference. Not to non-Craig films, but a reference that adds to the continuity, be referring to "Skyfall".
I like him in dark colours, it would've been nice for it not be so close to Rog in LALD, though. Just for the sake of originality. I prefer his look in the first still we got. He looks good in this, but like I say, it screams Rog to me.

I would have Bond in a suit in action scenes too, but only if stems naturally from the situation. SF PTS is strange as he's technically out in the field. I do think the suit is a distinguishing factor in the visual portrayal of Bond and I reckon we may see some suited action at some stage in SP.
This look is Bond doing cosplay of Bond, which is quite weird the more I think about it. I just wish we weren't having discussions about how things in this film remind us of others. Seems to be a recurring topic of discussion thus far.
It doesn't scream "Roger" to me. It screams Daniel Craig.....in which one find subtle references to "LALD". I think no matter what we do, especially here on the forums we are "comparison addicts". It will always be part of these discussions. And it's logical if you have a reference view of 53 years James Bond and 23 Bond films. It's normal. And it won't go away, even if all of our wishes not to include references - @RC7 ;-) - are heard.
That image of Bond you are referring too, made in Austria, was branded "a true George Lazenby reference, with those circular goggles". Bond wearing that blue parka jacket in Austria evoked "Aahh, it screams Willy Bogner/Roger Moore FYEO"!
Really, we can also overreact :-P.
Subtle references? It's the same look. He doesn't look like GL or Bogner in the Austria shots.
If it were 'subtle', I don't think articles like this would be surfacing...

etc. Doesn't mean they're deliberate, as I sure many in the Bond camp, don't watch
The films as closely or as often as we do! :))
As the movies have been around since 1962, it is difficult to be entirely original, especially when it comes to functional clothes. I for one, rather enjoy the continuity it brings. Bond wore something in TB and LALD, at least. And why not?
Exactly this point I have been making quite a few times on here. I fully agree.
It's clearly deliberate. Mendes and DC love LALD. You're telling me Dan rocking up on a poster looking pretty much identical to Moore in LALD is not a conscious decision?
He doesn't have to look identical to Moore, though? They could throw in a few flourishes to differentiate the look. Even the Brosnan era managed it.
For a shirt and that's Moore in MR and of course Brosnan dress in Black for DAD.
I do agree, it is A very strong homage to LALD. Although for months I've read many
Posts about how it was a remake of OHMSS suddenly we're getting a LALD influence.
So standby for Bond being chased by Crocodiles on skis ! :))
It's an accepted trope of the series. If Dan turned up in blue bathing suit ala Connery in GF I'd be equally puzzled. What I'm trying to say and have been regard Mendes' creative decisions at times is STOP COPYING STUFF FROM WHEN YOU WERE A KID. It's just boring.

QFT.
I don't see any problems with Bond films nodding to their predecessors - there's over 50 years of history, I'm all for the films paying respect to the past.
We totally disagree on this point, then. It's a modern fad that has forced its way into popular culture over the past twenty years to guarantee bums on seats and cash at the expense of creativity (See - Millenium Falcon). If in doubt 'do that thing they liked last time'. It's not a problem I've had with Bond films before, but the DC era pitched itself as mould-breaking and risky and to all extents the first two delivered on that. I just think they've lost their balls a bit. I'm not pinning this all on this LALD cosplay, DC looks good, but it's symptomatic of certain things Mendes is doing with the franchise. Potentially taking a risk with characters, but covering his arse with visuals and nods. The DB5 didn't need to be in SF, period. It was in purely for nostalgia and for gormless members of the public to go, 'Ooh that's that car what was in that other film!'. Meh.
