This is horrible news. His passing starts to very much close the door on a certain era of film history. The roles he's done stretch far and wide, there is no doubt it's not only Bond fans mourning him today.

    RIP Sir.

I just wanted to say something positive during this sad day of news: thank you to everyone on here, particularly in this post, who seem like compassionate, decent people. It is so nice to be able to see how someone opened this post and to see the comments.

To say that this artist was huge in the world of Bond is an understatement.

Thoughts and prayers to his family, and to all who care for him.

He was the best thing about TMWTGG, also appeared in my favourite Hammer Horror: The Devil Rides Out. A much loved actor who will be sorely missed. RIP.

Just read the news. Rest in peace Mr Lee.

I certainly agree and what a nice quote to use.

Some may disagree but Lee was possibly the last surviving actor who played a genuinely iconic Bond villain.

RIP was heartbroken upon hearing the news, probably thee greatest actor of all time. My father as a police constable at the time in Dumfries in Galloway had the pelasure of escorting both Lee and Woodward on the set of The Wickerman. My dad always talked about how intuative they both were and how both were such gentlemen. Sad we have lost both in such a short space of time.

Oh no. :( First Richard Johnson, now Sir Christopher Lee.

While Lee wasn't my favourite Dracula, repeats of his Dracula films are among my earliest of horror memories, and no doubt went some way to making me the horror buff that I am today. I trust that wherever he is, he is joined by friends and fellow horror actors, Vincent Price & Peter Cushing, the three of them causing merry hell together.

R.I.P. Sir Christoper Frank Carandini Lee

I remember I saw him at the Skyfall premier in November 2012. Despite his frailty, he still looked impressive in terms of his height.

Worth mentioning a distant cousin of Ian Fleming. He was originally approached for the role of Dr No but could not do it due to other commitments. For those unfamiliar with the novels will know Scaramangas character was heavily adapted for the film as well as the story to allow Lee to keep a promise to Ian that he would play one of the villains one day after Dr No fell through. I agree with Mark Gatis who today stated "the often underrated Sir Christopher Lee" the last of a kind, a Titan of British and international film.

Is Lee underrated? I'm not sure. He seemed to be genuinely regarded as a screen legend.

A lot of people think so including myself the films he starred in won loads of Oscars and baftas etc but personal accolades were far and few between.

The man was a cult/genre cinema god.

The first horror film I remember seeing was HORROR OF DRACULA (1958), on U.S. television in the late 1960s... That incredible ending blew my 7-year old mind! Made me a lifelong fan.

    Requiescat in pace, Sir Christopher.

Heard this on the radio at work today and felt genuinely gutted. He was a great actor, one of the best Bond villains ever and an awe inspiring human being who'd lived an extraordinary life. The amazing different things he's done (SAS, trained sword fighter, acting for over half a century, recording a metal album in his 90s), the iconic roles he's played and franchises he's been apart of (Bond, Dracula, Lord Of The Rings) and the amount of records and accomplishments he has is insane. He'll never be forgotten, a real cinema legend.

Very sad news. One of the strongest and most iconic villains of the series.

A close friend of mine met him a few years ago and Sir Christopher retold an amusing story to her. Lee had recently returned from the Thai island that TMWTGG was filmed on. It was a very low key personal visit (without any publicity or media attention). He wasn't very impressed and found the island had been spoilt by tourism nowadays. But the funny thing was that no one recognised him at all and apparently some Japanese tourists even asked him to take a photo of them whilst they posed like Bond/Scaramanga back-to-back on the beach. He didn't let on who he was and took their photo! He laughed telling this story apparently.
