I haven't seen some of the films in years, but going into Spectre this is how I rank them:

    1. From Russia with Love
    2. Casino Royale
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4. Thunderball
    5. Skyfall
    6. Dr. No
    7. GoldenEye
    8. Goldfinger
    9. The Living Daylights
    10. For Your Eyes Only
    11. You Only Live Twice
    12. The Spy Who Loved Me
    13. Licence to Kill
    14. Quantum of Solace
    15. Live and Let Die
    16. Moonraker
    17. Octopussy
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. The Man with the Golden Gun
    20. The World is Not Enough
    21. Diamonds are Forever
    22. A View to a Kill
    23. Die Another Day

I don't think my top 3 and bottom 3 are any different than what I had when Casino came out. As for the rest... time tells a different story.

This is a very good list!!
Like my Top 10 it contains all 6 Bond actors in it!

@Szonana I have a feeling I will like TND more in my current Bondathon. Brosnan looks and acts his best here - the entire Hamburg printing factory scene is fantastic, the way he moves. Not to mention that BMW chase, one of my favs

Wait until you see that breathtaking PTS sequence of TWINE!
Brosnan is fantastic in that one!

I also think you will like it even more this time, im reserving my Bondathon for late october before spectre is released.
It just happens that i made my very first Bondathon early year and it was my first time with most of the Bond flicks.

Im not only new on this board im also a new Bond fan practically.

My very first Bond flick was die another day in theaters and i loved it, then came Casino Royale, i
skipped QoS due to the horrible reviews and i did watched askyfall.

But it was at the beginning of this year that i rented novemeber man on itunes and that was the film which inspired me to finally watch all the Bond films i missed for a long time.

I made my Bondathon in this following very strange order :

    The world is not enough
    Goldeneye
    tomorrow never dies
    Quantum of Solace
    Diamonds are forever
    Dr No
    From Russia with love
    Goldfinger
    Thunderball
    You only live twice
    On her Majesty's secret service
    Live and let die
    The spy who loved me
    For your eyes only
    The living daylights
    Licence to kill
The man with the golden gun
    Octopussy
    A view to kill

So next time i'll do it ill including the whole 23 films and in its propper chronological order.

Note: This is not a new Ranking, i already published mine this is just the order i made my first Bondathon

    @GeneralGogol
Your list is surprisingly similar to the MI6Community rank. As it stands post-Skyfall as of 9th august 2015.

    1. FRWL 3061
    2. CR 3047
    3. OHMSS 2737
    4. SF 2710
    5. GF 2612

    6. TSWLM 2425
    7. TLD 2404
    8. GE 2359
    9. TB 2333
    10. DN 2287

    11. LTK 2067
    12. FYEO 1943

    13. LALD 1791
    14. OP 1652
    15. YOLT 1621

    16. QOS 1470
    17. TWINE 1390
    18. TND 1325
    19. MR 1178
    20. TMWTGG 1160

    21. DAF 1061
    22. AVTAK 979
    23. DAD 560

23 points for 1st and 1 point for 23rd. Out of 160 people. The gaps indicate tiers, and are a pretty good marker for how the audience ranks the films.

Rankings on the CBn board have mostly the same tiers (exception is that DN is below FYEO) but a slightly differennt order. Interestingly, AJB also has a similar tier, but SF/TB are lower, and AVTAK/DAF higher. However those two sites have a smaller sample size. (66 and 62 respectively).

Even more fascinating is a compilation of ranks from random internet sources - movie blogs, professional sites, youtube videos, reddit - comes up with a similar tier (OHMSS and OP are slightly lower, and GF is on top).

Indeed, but that's what makes ranking comparison so fun! I didn't expect my list to look the way it did: never thought FYEO would be where it's at, didn't think DN or QoS would be that high, and I didn't think I'd love LALD more than FRWL.

    Hello everyone,

    I've been a long-time lurker but I'm a first-time poster. It's very nice to see such a friendly and well-mannered fan forum.

Anyway, with SPECTRE coming up, I thought it was about time I registered and I thought this would probably be the most suitable thread to say hello and make my first post.

I've been a fan since the early 90s and it's very interesting reading the rankings here to see how the mean opinions of certain Bond films have changed over time. The consensus opinion of GF, MR and YOLT have altered quite a bit but OHMSS is the most dramatic change.

Enough wittering from me. Here are my rankings:

    1. CR
    2. GF
    3. OHMSS
    4. TSWLM
    5. TLD
    6. GE
    7. FRWL
    8. SF
    9. TB
    10. DN
    11. LALD
    12. YOLT
    13. FYEO
    14. LTK
    15. MR
    16. TMWTGG
    17. QOS
    18. DAF
    19. TWINE
    20. OP
    21. TND
    22. AVTAK
    23. DAD

It was only after compiling the list that I realised all six Bonds have a film in the top six. It wasn't deliberate but I'm rather pleased about it.

Welcome @Strangways ! Love that you have all six actors in the top six. Currently I do too, with slightly different films, but I'm in the middle of a Bondathon so this may change.

My top six are in no order FRWL, OHMSS, OP, TLD, GE, CR. The only film that may slip is GE but I really don't know.

Thanks, @Benny . Moore gives a great performance. He gets lost in the spectacle of the Gilbert films. My two main complaints are the title song, and I have no idea what the plot is.

I may have to tweak my list a little....dare I say (after 13 films)....

    1. OP
    2. FRWL
    3. OHMSS
    4. FYEO
    5. TSWLM
    6. Dr No
    7. MR
    9. DAF
    10. GF
    11. YOLT
    12. TMWTGG
    13. TB
    14. LALD

TLD is just around the corner, so OP most likely won't be there long. I like TLD for mostly the same reasons, but it has less gags

Posted my rankings a few weeks back but after watching a few more have made changes. Tried to group them as well into distinct categories. I'll give the list in its basic form and then add the rankings with more detail

    1) The Spy Who Loved Me
    2) Octopussy

    3)From Russia With Love
    4)On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    5) Live and Let Die

    6) Licence to Kill
    7) Thunderball
    8) The Living Daylights

    9) Diamonds are Forever
    10) For Your Eyes Only
    11) Moonraker

    BIG GAP

    12) Goldfinger
    13) A View To A Kill
    14) You Only Live Twice

    15) Casino Royale
    16) GoldenEye
    17) Skyfall

    18) Dr No
    19) The Man With The Golden Gun

    20) The World Is Not Enough
    21) Die Another Day
    22) Tomorrow Never Dies

    GRAND CANYON SIZED GAP

    23) Quantum of Solace

    Further analysis

    10/10 Bond Movies

Utter perfection. Everything you want in a Bond film are in TSWLM and OP. Utterly brilliant and outstanding in every respect from start to finish. Cinematic beauty in every possible way. For all the haters, the clown scene in OP (in fact the whole Germany sequence) is still the most tense moment in a Bond movie. It's played straight. No jokes or silly gimmicks, just pure desperation creating great drama.

    The Spy Who Loved Me
    Octopussy

    9.5/10 Bond Movies

Very close to perfection - another ranking could have these in the 10/10 club. Excellence

    From Russia With Love
    On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    Live and Let Die

    9/10 Bond Movies

Solid great movies. Dalton nails the role excellently and him, like his movies, are seriously underrated. All 3 of these movies are brilliant to watch. Will never be 10/10 but could move into the 8.5/10 club

    Licence To Kill
    Thunderball
    The Living Daylights

    8/10 Bond Movies

3 largely underrated movies. Really enjoy them - not without their faults (MR has just squeezed in) but very good and hidden gems in the series. The FYEO car kicking off the cliff scene is a very dark moment in the franchise, people overlook Moore's serious and darker moments too much I feel

    Diamonds Are Forever
    For Your Eyes Only
    Moonraker

    7/10 Bond Movies

Solid and enjoyable movies - GF is overrated. Bond spends most of his time as a prisoner and does very little.

    Goldfinger
    A View To A Kill
    You Only Live Twice

    5/10 Bond Movies

What can I say? The Craig era underwhelms me. Didn't help that it was the Judi Dench and creepy mother/son trust issues show for three movies. Most people will place SF and CR much higher but there is something severely lacking in them compared to the films above in the list.

    Casino Royale
    GoldenEye
    Skyfall

    4/10 Bond Movies

DN is a great movie I just don't think compared to the above company it warrants a higher place. The Bond formula had yet to be created though several elements were present in the movie, Haven't watched it in a while so I may rank it higher but it won't go too higher. Would love to put TMWTGG higher just for Christopher Lee but it just isn't a very good Bond movie sadly

    Dr No
The Man With The Golden Gun

    2/10 Bond Movies

The Brosnan era just dragged after GE for me. Underwhelming for sure and lacking in quality in large places

    The World Is Not Enough
    Die Another Day
    Tomorrow Never Dies

    0/10 Bond Movies

Hideous - what were the producers thinking?!?!

Quantum of Solace - Watched this the other day and I could find nothing about the movie I liked. I absolutely loathe every minute of this movie. Hideous in every respect. Rock bottom and it will take some shifting too. A scandal to think this could pass as a James Bond movie, Craig tries too hard and too much time is given to Judi Dench. Worst thing to happen to the Bond franchise was hiring her

@Signed_By_RogerMoore your list is possibly the closest to mind I've seen on these forums. We share four of the top five, 8 of the top ten, and not too dissimilar elsewhere. I don't rank the Brosnan or Craig entries particularly high, and neither do I DR. NO.

Interestingly enough, as a fellow lurker for many years before joining earlier this year, I had never given On Her Majesty's Secret Service a proper viewing. There were segments I had seen in the past during Bond marathons and never gave it much of a chance since it was Lazenby's only film and he doesn't sound the part. When I gave it a fair view, I immediately watched it again because of how great the ending was (it felt like I hadn't gotten lured in until the second half and possibly had missed some great moments beforehand).

The great thing about it is that while I can't consider it at the top of my list, it does so many things well that it is hard to be very critical of it. I do believe there is something in it for everyone, which is why it has such a good reception among fans.
