Fan Fiction

edited March 2011 in Fan Creations Posts: 72
The first post I ever created on the original Mi6 was for an incredibly unoriginal short story titled "Mission to Die For". I had never completed it. But come my many years at Mi6 I had seen thousands of stories come to life by hundreds of talented members. Do not let this tradition die. Post your old words and your new in hopes that your stories will come to life once more. Long live Fan Fiction!

I have to ask- wanna reboot the DMS? Maybe quick start for the first Saturday of April?

Well, like the MI6 website. I can now announce the MI6 Interview Series is being completely revamped in 2011. We sort of don't have a choice, but it was long overdue anyway.

Anyway, if the Fan Fic's start getting posted, hopefully we'll see Interview #28 (or #1, I suppose) coming out around the beginning of May. That is, well, if the Fan fiction forum will thrive.

Hopefully, I have some back ups of the interviews somewhere. When I have the chance to look through my "archive" of data in mid-May I'll have to see if I can find them. It would be nice to have a record of all those interviews from 2003 to 2010.

Well, anyway. Here's to the new MI6 Interviews.

I am 100% ready for that challenge! You may start it, Fae. I have no done such a thing in...wow, probably 2-3 years. If we were to create a banner, how would we post it? Let me know and I could crank something out!

Yeah, we'll need to get a banner / we'll get it up and ready in April ... way too busy now unless you want to jumpstart it or something.
  • Thank the Lord I had Roger Moore's WARHEAD saved somewhere on MS Word. That masterful work of laser shark infested literature would've been lost forever!

And yeah, I've been hankering to do some writing recently, so I'd be all for getting in on DMS.

Well get excited for April then.

Can I be interviewed? I want to see if I can out-wanker my first one.

Quoting Vesper: Can I be interviewed? I want to see if I can out-wanker my first one.
Sure. It is probably for the best they were deleted. All the ones I did were shit. The ones after me were good. Mine were awful. At least I can lie now and say I was the best goddamn interviewer on the face of the Earth. No proof to the contrary...

Yeah, I discovered my interview a few weeks back... I can't say I'll miss having that lying around to be brought up against me.

Haha, I feel the same way. Especially about every fan fiction writing attempt I made as a n00b back in the day. They were so humiliating. Good riddance to them. This might be a blessing in disguise.

This might be a good opportunity for me to get into writing fan fiction.

Not that I'd ever write a full on fan fic again, but I'm glad I used a pen name for the story I had published on the main site
  • is anyone going to start a new fan fiction?

PS. I was agentbond007 in the old forum

Hey Vesper, are you planning on continuing your Bond 23 script you had going on at the old forum?

@coco1997 Sadly I think Vesper is no longer with us as a full time member but hopefully will return for the complete his script.

i have always thought about sitting down, and writing a short fan fic or two about my favorite action adventure hero...... but, have always been afraid to... people have told me that i am not a bad writer, but i feel i have about as much talent as a writer as Uwe Boll has in directing..... but we shall see, maybe i'll open myself up to some humiliation in the future :/
  • I would say that I don't mean to resurrect this month-old thread, but that would be a lie.

I do hope that this new site sees a similar resurrection in the form of a new DMS, and a continuation of the Fan Fiction section.

Personally, I wrote and posted a couple short fanfic pieces as "JBWannabe" over the years over at the old forums. I was just stopping by to see how things were going when I was affronted with this... change. Nonetheless, I would be willing to work some fan-driven literary magic if anyone else is up for it.

Don't say that too loud, the Raging Boll himself might send you a nasty email or challenge you to a boxing match.

  • I seem to remember Seb Harvey having written some brilliant fiction back in the day. What a delightfully modest individual. It was always a pleasure talking to him.
It's just a shame I have no way of going back and finding what he had written now! :-(

I'm sure he still has those stories. I can contact Seb if you like Orbis and encourage him to re-print them someway so they are open to the new Community.

If nobody else is going to post some fan fiction, I suppose I'll put up a short piece that I worked on a bit last night. It is mostly just a bit of atmosphere and flash fiction, but I also tried to update both his friendship with Leiter, and his role in a modern intelligence agency.

    Exit Strategy

Footsteps pounded on stone in a continuous crackle as James Bond of the British Secret Intelligence Service weaved his way through vibrant throngs of tourists and merchants in Tunis' souks. Waving off aggressive shopkeepers hawking assorted goods from cured leather and specialty pottery to cheap knickknacks and overpriced t-shirts, Bond had little time for the distracting, dizzying din of the covered mercantile alleyways. The strong fragrance of spices and perfume tailed the intelligence officer as he neared the outskirts of the markets. He finally lost the smell as he ducked into a seedy bar tucked away in a (relatively) quiet corner of the Medina, only for his nose to become reacquainted with an only too common combination of scents: stale beer and sweat.

Locals looked on as Bond ordered a chilled boukha and sidestepped toward the back room.

“James!” an American voice boomed from the shadows of a private nook, “How's Box 850?”

Bond turned with a sly grin, “Proliferated with officialism and bureaucracy, Felix. And Langley?”

“The Company is still shaken after Tuesday's roll-up with Gaddafi's security forces. The head honchos are only thinking more conservatively after the blowback in Al-Jazeera.”

The two friends finalized their greeting with a hearty handshake and Bond slid into the corner booth as a waiter arrived with his drink and another Celtia, a Tunisian beer, for Leiter.

The American frowned at the small aluminum can, turning it over in his hand before opening it with a crisp snap.

“Not only does it taste watered down, but it only comes in fun size cans,” he said to himself.

“Any luck confirming the Chinese involvement with Lybian loyalists?” Bond continued.

Leiter hesitated before answering and shoveled an extra spoonful of lablabi into his mouth.

“Officially, I don't know what you're talking about,” he said, smirking between swallows. “Unofficially, some no-foreign-nationals documents have been floating around AFRICOM that suggest that there is some in-fighting in Bejing about whether or not it would be appropriate to deploy Chinese troops to protect their economic interests in Africa. At this point, it seems that the question isn't, 'has Bejing financed Gaddafi since the start of the conflict?' but, 'who else are they buying?' Anyway, look, James. We can talk shop forever and just give ourselves headaches, or we can enjoy the beer and Tunisian cuisine for the rest of the night.”

Bond met Leiter's eyes with a rueful chuckle, “Starting to gain an appreciation for that piss water now? You're bonkers all ready, and I haven't even touched mine.”

It was Leiter's turn to laugh, “To be fair, you were late. You'll catch up soon enough though, friend, and then we can booze on up 'till the end of this war.”

Bond finally sipped his aperitif as empty promises echoed in his head.

“Until the war's end, Felix. Until the end.”

Well I would happilly read more @sHell_Is_Here because you can certainly write.

    Waiting with baited breath :)

Thank you, I appreciate it. But I think I'll wait until someone else posts something more conductive to the 007 fanfic community than vague wishes before I continue. If you like it enough, perhaps that will serve as the impetus that gets you writing again.

Actually, I suppose I'll present a CASUAL CHALLENGE for any other potential writers: write a piece depicting a modernized Bond, whether that involves him in current global political events or only updates something about his character. It is no DMS, but perhaps someone will pitch in.
