agreed.. it can be James Bond and not have to follow the films at all... if they feel they have to use the current actor in the role - fine, that doesn't bother me - the games can maintain their own continuity as spinoffs of the film series without having to be connected directly (ie: EON or BS) - but, i feel like they should just choose an actor who is used to doing video games, like a Troy Baker or someone of that ilk and do something completely original.. and if they are short on story ideas, there is plenty to harvest from the continuation novels if they wanted, even if they didn't use those novels by name.

And to this day, I still have not played 007 Legends. The whole setup of that game rubbed me up the wrong way.
I mean don't get me wrong if there is a choice between generic bond in a bond game or no bond game at all I will pick generic bond but I love the Craig era and enjoy playing as him.
I mean we dont need a strange face in a bond game .. We already have 6 but Lazenby would be perfect since he just done one and he is not famous enough..
FRWL took the same basic premise (being a 3rd person shooter) and didn't do anything special with it and instead watered it all down with objectives like "destroy 20 cars". FRWL could've been a fine game if done correctly (although a more over the top film like MR, YOLT, etc. would've been more suitable for a game). I mean the gypsy camp sequence ended with Red Grant rolling into the camp in a tank, and the game ended with a massive action sequence in a factory with Red Grant in a octopus machine or something. Yet even FRWL had some solid aspects with death match returning, a classic Bond story (to a degree), Connery's presence, etc.
Then Activision got the license where they made a cheap cash in with Goldeneye Re-Loaded, and a terrible 007 Legends (which in all honesty sounds great conceptually). I enjoyed Quantum of Solace to a degree - although it felt like they were relying on the Bond license for the game to sell and not making a quality game. Then Bloodstone did some things that I really liked as a Bond game, but in the end Activision never really felt like they committed to giving 100% effort to it. They took the license and looked at it as a cash cow - yet quickly realized that if you put zero effort into a game no one will buy it. Bloodstone had promise, but it fell so short of what it could've been.
I would love for someone to finally step in and devote some $ and talent towards making a 3rd person shooter with levels that involve more than Bond shooting up 100s of mindless mercenaries. Some stealth, some shooting, some driving, certain customization (clothing, weaponry, etc.), and some sort of engrossing multi-player.
Apart from the graphics, the primary version that received the hype at the time couldn't have been cheaper and should only be displayed as an average Call of Duty knock-off, or a Modern Media Shooter like I describe the post-COD shooters. It offered absolutely nothing but running and gunning enemies with uninspired quick time events when it came to the close quarters combat.
Now, with PS2's version, there is some creativity, challenge and diversity. More screentime for the actors voicing out their characters, more presence, less linear, feeling like a theatrically-inspired game. There was little bit of everything in it, as opposed to the abomination that "the primary version" brought. Heck, even 007 Legends has been more creative than the former, let's face it. It was a forced tie-in with missions almost unconnected and not making sense. Bond was at the opera a few minutes ago, why is he trapped in a cave and who is that girl with him that's running away? (Camille that is.)
DS's version was a typical portable game and a good one at that, I must say. It was more like a tactical game than a shooter. Besides, it allowed the player to gain access through doors with certain challenges that were to find fallen piece and get them together in various ways, not just go through a mini-game of pressing the racing buttons right on time, which could be given the name QTE.
Just my two cents at the whole Quantum of Solace thing. GoldenEye the remake and its HD remaster, Reloaded weren't that better either, but again, there was more creativity and stealthy elements, which could be praised.

I always wanted to have open-world Bond game. Not really a sandbox, but a game that will give you the choice of methods - just like in Human Revolution, every way will be approved and you will get reward both for killing all henchmen or avoiding them (but of course "spy" methods will be more acclaimed). Let's say - game looking like Blood Stone, with Alpha Protocol-like core (but more, more polished), open world and driving when you want. Plus, of course, some random, optional spying missions which may give you intel for the more important ones, like secret entrances, etc.
