It has to be GE. That was a six year gap, ergo the widest net was cast. The rest only had one or two (and twice, three or four) years to grab a first time viewer before a new Bond film popped up.

GE is responsible for creating a huge new fan base. Due to its immense popularity back in 1995, and of course the Nintendo game for N64 that accompanied it.

Brosnan is gonna win this contest, who'd thought that!

I don't see there being a winner per se, it's merely the film that started our own introduction to the world of OO7.

Yeah, there isn't going to be a winner as such, it's the film that started your intro to Jim Bond. But it is interesting how many on here seemed to have had that intro with GoldenEye. As people have pointed out, the N64 game and the 6 year gap probably have a lot to do with it.

There seems to be something special about that first Bond. YOLT has gone down in my estimation over the years but I still remember what an impact it made on that first viewing of a Bond film. It was 1997 and I had vague memories of GoldenEye coming out in 95 when I would have been 9, i think there may have even been a Blue Peter James Bond special to coincide!

I had a similar experience with TWINE, which was the first Bond I saw at the cinema.

    Keep the tally going!
  • Sorry meant to quote that first paragraph from Benny didn't seem to work. Don't shoot me, I'm still quite new here!

I was very young. The movie was Octopussy. It's easy for a kid to remember because of the shocking death scene of clown agent 009 in the beginning.
I kept also a great memory of the fight on the train.

This list will obviously be influenced by a variety of factors:

How often the film got aired on free to view channels… OHMSS doesn’t get half as much global airtime as TSWLM, I’m pretty sure. Also, the ‘older’ 1960’s to 80’s Bond films are much cheaper to air.

The marketing hype and buzz around the cinema-release often influence how many ‘Bond virgins’ will have seen it… GE is a good example here – after a long absence the PR machine went into overdrive to get Bond back in the limelight

The popularity of the 007 actor… Dalton’s two films are most definitely not shown as much as, say, Brosnan’s first two

First Bond film experience came via the TV with TSWLM. The following year I got my first cinema experience of Bond with OP.

Yes, first, regardless of where and how. I may have complicated things by asking who saw their first one in a theatre, that was out of my own curiosity.

Yeah when I started this discussion I was thinking the first time you saw a Bond, TV, cinema, bought on VHS. Although I'm liking the anecdotes of first theatre viewings etc. Sorry I think I started that off by mentioning how my first Bond cinema experience was like my first Bond experience with YOLT on the telly.

I remember looking over the selection of Bond films at Blockbuster, aged 12. I had gotten "the Secret World of 007" and now wanted to see one of the films. The newer and cooler looking ones were PG-13, and my parents were quite strict about films and tv at that time. But I didn't want to pick one of the oldest ones either. So I picked AVTAK. Says something that I didn't drop the whole Bond thing after that. I believe ABC started their Saturday night airings on Bond movies at about the same time.

Well, sort of makes sense, really.
The MTV generation makes up a large portion of online forums and was a tad too young to have seen Dalton in the cinema - after the 6 year absence there was a large 'pool' of pre-teens and teens who'd never seen 007 on the silver screen & were the perfect target audience for GoldenEye.

Yes GE is the epitome of a Bond movie, like FRWL or OHMSS.

"Licence To Kill", in 1989. I was 8 years old then. And I was scared to death of that film :-P.
