I have created this new topic to allow members to post little Golden Nuggets of Bond Folklore and Facts rather than create a new topic every time someone discovers something they wish to share. I am sure everyone from then reading the topic will discover something new and exciting

Here is a few examples

Sean Connery really was set to play a key role in Skyfall, He even did video auditions, rather than the character of Kincaid the script is said to have originally had the idea that Skyfall manor was intended as an isolated refuge for retired agents - and that Connery would have been one of them. The conclusion of Skyfall would therefore have seen Craig's Bond defend Skyfall Lodge from Silva's goons. Connery took unwell and could no longer commit and the script ending was changed.

Stephen Seagal was the fight scene instructor on Never Say Never Again and broke Sean's wrist Connery stated in an interview that he was taking martial arts lessons and in the process angered the instructor who in turn broke his wrist. Connery stayed with the wrist broken for a number of years thinking it was only a minor pain... the instructor was Steven Seagal.

Look forward to reading others contributions.

Regarding the Skyfall one, I'm so glad the script was changed... I couldn't even believe they seriously considered such an idea.

Yeah it all sounded a bit strange and cringey.

It's not true, just fan bluster. You honestly think they made Sean Connery AUDITION for the part? Wake up.

As far as what I've read, Sam considered including Connery in that capacity, but decided against it, and it never made it past that. Would love some sources for your info @SirHilaryBray, if it made it as far as you're saying, would be really interesting to read about!

I get the feeling sources are going to be a vital part of information in this thread.

Not sure how true this is, but legend has it that just before Wimbledon in 1983 a group of tennis pros went to see Octopussy, one of whom had just missed the cut for the great tennis competition. When Vijay was killed in the film, he jumped to his feet and shouted "I'M IN"

I seriously hope it is true.

I would agree, but some of the folklore is fun so definitely a topic to take with a relaxed attitude by all rather than have posters writing criticisms of others post by writing things like BS, rubbish or nonsense in response to what others post people can always do their own research as well and use it to dispelll rumours or add credibility to others post.

I agree 100%, in spirit, @SirHilaryBray. I've already read some interesting things here that I'd never seen before. Hopefully I can contribute something eventually.

Great. What I would say is to post whether your posting a fact or folklore maybe save you getting rubbished. Folklore after all is basically unconfirmed urban myth often when you strip it back it's like a game of Chinese Whispers and you find a truth part that has been grosly exaggerated, but fun all the same. Will look forward to reading what people post.

    Folklore or Fact

Sean Connery isn’t so different in real life. Johnny Stompanato was a famous US marine who eventually became a bodyguard and enforcer for gangster Mickey Cohen. Stompanato couldn’t exactly be characterized as a wholesome individual.

After being married a couple times, he began an affair with actress Lana Turner, who just so happened to be making a movie with Sean Connery. The always jealous Stompanato once stormed onto the movie set (Another Time, Another Place) while Turner and Connery were filming and proceeded to point a gun at Connery. Connery, in full James Bond mode, quickly disarmed the ex-marine and gangster in front of the entire set. He then picked him up and tossed him out back, solidifying his legendary reputation.

Stompanato was then deported from the UK for his offense and later stabbed to death by Lana Turner’s daughter. Connery embarrassing Stompanato became so well known that that before his death, Connery was forced to go in to hiding after being accused of being responsible for the downfall of Stompanato and Tuners relationship, and that Stompanato wanted Connery dead. One rumour is one of Stompanato's Mob friends believed Connery had killed Stompanato and the Turners daughter took the blame.

    Fact

The only Bond films to win Oscars are Skyfall (sound editing and original song), Goldfinger (sound effects) and Thunderball (visual effects).

Fact: Barbara Broccoli is kind to her love ones with her money. Her ex-boyfriend and Toyboy James Martin
    M
told the Daily Mail it was the reason they split as she kept buying him outlandish gifts and feared her children would think ill of him. The gifts included 2 Picasso paintings which a friend had to keep safe in a his vault for him and Barbd also bought him a £180,000 Aston Martin which he declined to accepted

It was that day we went with Daniel Craig to Aston Martin's headquarters to see the clay model that it hit home how far apart our worlds were. After I had picked the colour, I added: 'Of course, if it was for me personally, I'd go for black on black - black paint, black interior.'

Barbara said: 'Well, have one if you want one.'

I laughed. 'No, it's all right.' She was insistent. 'Have one.' She was genuinely going to buy one for me. This was the Aston Martin DBS, price £180,000.

I told her not to be so ridiculous but she was already saying: 'Yes, we'll have it black, with black interior, and we'll have the chassis number 007.' I continued to say: 'No, we won't.'

Barbara replied: 'Why not? If you want it we'll get it.' I tried to explain to her that you can't just give someone a £180,000 car as a gift. A watch is a gift. A ring is a gift. A £180,000 car is too much.

It wasn't as if it was my birthday or Christmas - it was just a spur of the moment thought. In the end I said: 'If I want something, I'll work for it. Just drop it or we're going to fall out over this.'

But she and Ulrich Betz continued to organise it so I left them to it.

I don't know what happened in the end. Barbara probably bought it. She's probably got a black on black Aston Martin DBS, chassis number 007, in a garage somewhere.

Wow. I didn't know Babs was a person who throws money around like that! Amazing, 3 Picassos, a Paul Newman Daytona Rolex, an LS Lowry painting, the keys to a Ferrari 360 Spyder, and an Aston!?

Where can I meet this woman?

Yes who I meant I did post the article. I added the wrong name. Anyone reading from the link provided would have gathered it was a minor error but thanks for being a hero, what a jerk!. Saying something like haha you said May when you went Martin would have been a much nicer way to have got your point across. But I assume you never opened the link to the article and decided to troll me.

You will be waiting a long time. Your post was 1 up manship maybe if you had bothered to have clicked on the article post before your smug response. You clearly didn't because you posted everything within the article as if it was brand new information.

FACT: Dame Judi M real name was Olivia Mansfield, for those of you who missed it in Skyfall it is written in the will deceleration tag contained on the box lid which has housed the Royal Dalton Dog, end scenes when Bond is on the roof.

In Casino Royale, when Bond is in M's appartment, do you think the script intended for M to cut him off as he said "I had no idea M stood for Mansfield"? Or do think this wasn't the intention for CR ("Just start saying some name that starts with M, Dan, and we'll have Judi cut you off."), and they just created the Olivia Mansfield moniker for Skyfall?

‘I thought M was a randomly assigned letter. I had no idea it stood for . . .’ To which she interjects: ‘Utter one more syllable and I’ll have you killed.’

I don't think the script at the time was so we would find out later. I think it was done to keep it a mystery, when Logan, Purvis & Wade were writing Skyfall they likely saw the opportunity to sneak it as a closing of the chapter. Done wonderfully as a lot of people failed to realise first time of viewing. Why I am looking forward to Spectre it is clear all 3 have gone over CR, QOS and Skyfall to look for other we gems they bring in to Spectre. Connecting dots. I really hope Spectre makes reference to events in all 3 prior films to link it all up together.
