(Even though there is plenty of room for a return)
Martin is in his early seventies and incredibly fit and vital. Chances are it won't happen but age and physical condition will not be the reason.
;)
After your calculation Ridley Scott and Clint Eastwood will hit the 120th sometime soon.
I agree 100% with Jetsetwilly. Spectre exceeded my expectations. Craig has earned one more movie
If DC & SM can just have Bond in some way come back to the service, possibly ESB escapes ( I don't see any other way for this to happen) unless they have some idea I can't conceive to get round this and still have ESB in it.
I'm not sure they'd deal with Madeline by just brushing her off like an after thought, SM & DC would need her to figure in it.
Also a part of me says if SM & DC just want to carry on with all this brother nonsense then maybe SPECTRE should be both their swansong and just let another actor pick up from here, they could just mention the Swann thing didn't work out and Bond is committed to his job, the next actor could then be the same Bond.
You don't even have the next film have to be SPECTRE based, a standalone mission and then the next film could be ESB escaping and the new Bond going after him but dispensing with this brother nonsense and just making a kick ass Bond film.
I loved what they've done with this era, I don't mind the tying things together in SPECTRE but having ESB be his sort of brother and be part of his past was just too far and if SM 7 DC want to run with this for a 5th entry than rather just have him track down Blofeld after escaping with little reference to author of all your pain then I'd rather they both bowed out on SP, pity really that element really was the crux of me thinking it didn't measure up to CR & SF, that and the 2 lame set pieces that closed the film.
2 MORE.
So 5 more are in order :))
I would suggest they do it though without either Swann or Ernst being killed.
Reason; Swann is not Tracy. She does not need to be sacrificed. Too many dead girls in the Craig era already. And Ernst, cat and Spectre I would like to keep around as ongoing permanent nemeses.
To do this, we have Ernst escape and attack Bond and Swann a la OHMSS. Swann is injured but survives.
Bond goes after Ernst. We do the YOLT story, but Bond only thinks he kills Ernst.
Bond returns to Swann. By next film she has moved on. Ernst returns later played by new actor, and the Bond versus Spectre battles continue for the next 100 years.
:)
Brilliant idea. Blofeld has things set up in case he is every killed/captured. He's planned on EVERYTHING, every contingency possible. It will be Bond's job to go out and "fix" things that are going bad around the world, almost like Jack Bauer, going from site to site to stop one terrorist enterprise after another. He and Leiter, plus some other 00s, would work together to get things done. It could be amazing
Proper mission, haha. It should be obvious after four films that for the time being the producers are more interested in introversion than proper missions. And mega-buck guarantor Chris Nolan hasn´t yet have his go at Bond. The general visual and musical direction of the last two films looks to me like groundwork for a Nolan Bond with a Zimmer score. So, unfortunately, I might re-direct my Bond enthusiasm for a few years, avoid new films and make an in-depth study of the first 16 films ;-).
There is so much one might find fault with in those early Bond films: often cheap effects, sped up film, rear screen projection, models that look like models, but Connery, good God, the man owned that role the moment he lit that cigarette in the casino. He is so detached, so unapologetic, so effortlessly cool and masculine. His Bond is a masterclass in film acting.
I am tired of a psychologically challenged and complex Bond who keeps going on unauthorized missions. Tired of the Double 0 section is no longer relevant. Tired of the dinosaur analogy. But I don't want a return to the so unflappable, so witty Bonds of RM and PB that you never believe they are in danger and all feels slightly cartoonish.
For my next Bond, here's what I'd like to see.
PTS without Bond that sets up the main plot. (Think DN).
Big, brassy title song that smacks of Bond, not the latest singer in vogue.
Bond pulled away from a pleasant pastime to receive mission from M.
Bond bedding and shooting his away around the world before taking a seriously
challenging villain down.
And finally, something I don't want to see--the DB5 in a Bond film ever again. They
milked that so many times it has become parody.
All in all, I'm good with DC stepping away, as long as they can find an actor with
SC's qualities and a director like TY.
I think the Craig era is a little bit overrated, but that's to be expected. Remember All those people who said Brosnan was the best since Connery. Now we have people saying Craig has equalled or topped Connery. Total nonsense IMO, but he's a decent Bond and infinitely better than Brosnan.
I'm resigned to him doing another. The films are not quite my cup of tea but I am very conscious that they could be a lot worse as well, so I'm happy for Craig to do one more. He probably deserves it.
Am I alone in feeling that with SF and SP that Bond has drifted back to that Moore-light territory that Brosnan had already explored? I mean the films are still a lot better than with Brosnan, but there's an underlying current of cheese that I find slightly off putting.
More than ever I feel they had it right with Dalton.
