    Bring back Arnold. Yes he did suffer in Brosnans last 2 but CR was just brilliant, QOS wasn't too bad but can only score according to what he sees on screen.



    The PTS with Bond walking across the rooftops was a good score but the rest was pretty forgettable

    Shawshank Redemption, Road to Perdition, The Green Mile, Meet Joe Black, A Series of unfortunate events, Little Women and so on. I would include Skyfall in this list. I love that score.

    I don't think people realize how much Arnold's score adds to CR and to the entire vibe of the movie.

    Err, I think a lot of people do realise that.

    This is precisely why you hear so many people on here saying they'd have preferred Arnold over Newman.

    Arnold didn't exactly deliver the best action scores, but he certainly knew how to put in the Bond theme and integrate the theme song at appropriate moments. Eg, Most of the Casino Royale score is unmemorable, but I get chills thinking about his YKMN integration, especially in the opening shot of the train scene....fantastic!

    Newman's score sounds like filler music in a TV series...especially the Denbeigh scenes. The reuse of themes is inexcusable especially when the original track is not memorable to begin with.

    If Spectre had a better score, it would make its flaws easier to swallow. But the movie gives us so much time to dwell on its inconsistencies. At least YOLT my previous most disliked film is paced and scored well and you get lost in spectacle

    Personally I think it could add a 10-15% boost onto my own rating for the film.

    The scene where Bond flies the plane between the trees is simply pleading for a full on rendition of the OHMSS theme.
  • You know, I just been listning to the Live and let Die score.
    I must say it's a lot better than that Newman guy, George Martin he composed is own style which was kind of different from barry, but anyway much better than the crappy score of skyfall and Spectre.

    I've always thought that George Martin did a fantastic job on LALD. He did a few good things as a producer with some lads from Liverpool I hear too :)

    I truly loved Newman's score in Skyfall, particularly "Welcome to Scotland" it felt like we were descending into the mystery of Bond's past. That piece sounds similar to 'Kite in a hurricane" for Spectre--scary but beautiful.

    I agree, it's one of his best and it has it's own identity. When you hear it you know it's from CR.

    "City of Lovers" is (almost) on a par with Barry.

    They are a bit slower pace but I think they would have fit well in SP. I do plan on rescoring the action scenes when the movie comes out so that's something to look forward too. ;)

    Agreed. I'd compare it to AVTAK. Lots of lousy scenes (such as Bond grilling Stacey at the chateau) but the score always elevates it. Barry will never be replaced.

    I like both OP's and AVTAK's score but I think AVTAK's is better. This track is just so awesome.

    QOS was on TV tonight. I miss Arnold. The sound he started in CR was great.

    It's the same sound he started in TND, just less use of the Bond theme. The only score that was close to being radically different from all his other Bond scores was DAD with its heavy emphasis on electronics.

    Besides, he's better off in TV land. If Newman turns down the next film, I hope EON looks for someone other than Arnold.

    Exactly. A Bond score should feel unique to that film.

    It's not derivative of that at all. Both are great tracks but they don't sound remotely similar. If anything "He's Dangerous" is derivative of OHMSS's theme as both songs use the 4 note base progression. However both fit their respective films like a glove. :)

    EDIT: upon listening to Both tracks I can hear where Snow Job got some of it's influence, Sadly that variation of He's Dangerous isn't on youtube anymore.

    It's the pace of it that I find derivative. I always felt like Barry had run out of ideas a little during AVTAK, so although I don't mind the score at all, like the film, it's not one of my favourites. There's also that Bond sound that comes in at 0.13 first in the OP clip I posted (da na nanana na) which was repeated again in the AVTAK score (during the pretitles snow chase). It was first used prominently in TMWTGG.

    Then came TLD and he really had a new sound again....unfortunately, it was the last from him for this series. I really wish he could have developed that TLD synthesizer thing further.

    I agree though, both scores fit like a glove.

    As much as I like Octopussy's score, I find AVTAK to be superior. I mean, Wine with Stacey, He's Dangerous and Airship to Silicon Valley are some of the best tracks in the series.

    Newman blew away with Spectere, all his recurring themes took it to the level that even I canoto touch as I dabble away on my piano learning christmas tunes eatering toblerone and learning how to ski. He makes the perfect soundtrack not just for my day today, but also for Bonds highs and lows and his big old rivalry with Brofeld. I make it a mission to listen to every cue of Specrte, twice a day liked I used to with Skyfall. These tunes reveal themselves to be extremely caliber when stacked against ancient techno beats from David Arnold. David is David, and Newman is Goliath so go score Zoolander and leave beloved Bond alone at least unti l Craig is done please. Thommy Newman has the same things as Barry; a European style of theme-based scoring. Everyone gets his due his musicial due due.
