Compound Scene

Saw Spectre this past weekend and I thought it was pretty good. Have a quick question that I'm hoping someone can answer though. Watching the compound scene (being escorted there, staying in separate rooms, brief tour) gave me an insane sense of deja vu. Does anyone know of any other movies (Bond or otherwise) that used a similar premise? I'm going crazy because I know I've seen it somewhere else. Thanks all.

Well, the volcano base of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice immediately comes to mind.

Bond and Madeline entering their rooms could remind of Bond and Honey settling for dinner in Dr. No´s lair. The whole way they are greeted at the entrance is quite similar.

Agreed. I had seen that film a few times this year and so I noticed it right away. I had also previously advocated for a dinner scene in SP to sort of transition from the strange champagne/meteor gentleman behaviour to brutal mind and physical torture. The more I think about it, I'm glad they didn't do this, because it would have made comparisons to DN even more obvious.

Don't forget the meteorite scene, mirroring Dr No's fish tank and Bond saying "Our asylums are full of [people like you]".

  • Anyone know of any non Bond movies with the same premise? I've never seen Dr. No, so that's not what I'm remembering. I feel like the main character/girl were taken to the main compound in black SUVs/jeeps. Had a very modern/clinical feel to it (white, large windows, open, etc). Thanks again.

It reminded me of OHMSS in Blofeld's "allergy treatment/hypnosis" facility.

It's DN of course, with a nod to the YOLT volcano setting which is where Blofeld also first introduced himself to Bond, first time around.
Dinner scene being included would have been much better. Torture scene is awful. Horrible idea.
Mendes should be made to stand in the corner.

Actually the beginning part of it in the desert reminds me of DAF, and Bond going to the funeral home.

Yes ....reminded me of QoS too. Nothing specific but just the setting.

i got the DN vibe as well.... for the problems i had regarding the writing later on in the movie, i loved this little bit of classic Bond..

....god i wish this film was written as tightly as CR or SF...

    .... f'n John Logan ~X(

Yea ...but they had time to fix. And the solution was P&W so let's throw Mendes and the Babs in there too.

Not sure how much MGW was involved in this one. Guess was in preproduction though. I don't know.

Anyway throw 'em there too X( X( X(

    EDIT: John Logan :O)

It reminded me of a 007 video game for some reason.

But yeah, the whole scene had a "deja vu" feeling for me too kinda..idk why but it did. Anyways, I liked it!

Damn, my internet just doesn't like these boards. Time and time I write something up only to have it crash and lose everything. It must be China.

    To delete.

Interesting that you would use that analogy, but still like the scene.

Anyway the whole compound shootout reminded me of this scene from Commando...and not in a good way:

    I agree with @haserot

Logan shat this bed almost beyond salvage.

Too bad someone less whacked couldn't have been entrusted to come up with a story to bring back Blofeld.

At least the others managed to somewhat salvage the mess.

Yes, i got many DN vibes when that scene played out too! Several interesting thoughts though:
*Their rooms had windows unlike DN, but no doorknobs, like DN.
*Metorite scene is one of interest as it left ESB speechless (almost), with Bond rebutting his claim of an "unstoppable force" with "Well, it did stop right, here.". Imo ESB should have won with something like "not before making its mark". That makes me think that that line by Craig might be improvised :P
*The metorite scene should have had more significance, like ESB mentioning that all SP rings have a part of the metorite that "founded" SPECTRE, in a sense.
