Many thanks, @Gustav_Graves. That seriously helps narrow down my decision-making for the right steelbook/edition. You know I still have my eye on that BluFans version, though, as I'm sure you do! I'm sure we'll get some art cards, perhaps a mini poster, a unique slip for it (as usual), a numbered edition card, and maybe another extra goodie or two that nobody is expecting.
  • For anyone ordering the UK steelbook from Amazon.co.uk, looks like they've dropped the price to £19.99 (was originally £21.98)

At first this looks like good news, however I then realised it will no longer qualify for free delivery :(

Alongside that, to any of my American friends, I believe if you order the SP steelbook from Best Buy starting next week, you'll get a $5 rewards certificate in return. Apparently, those who have already pre-ordered it will not get in on this deal, which is stupid.

I wish they would go ahead and send your digital copy code through email or on their site once you preorder the bluray. It's almost like they want to try to get you to double dip or something with an early digital release. There's no way I would buy the digital copy now on Vudu and then have an extra digital copy when the bluray is released and shipped. Oh well I can wait I guess, its just disappointing.

I'm sure they would be terribly upset if you did that! ;)

I think it does still qualify. I looked at my preorder and there was some sort of promotional value applied of £1.99 to cancel out the postage charge.

Couldn't wait any longer. Bought the digital copy from itunes. Presumably the blu will have ultraviolet and I'll use that with Vudu. Looks pretty stunning on my iPhone6s! Can't wait to watch it on my tele at home in a few weeks! As much as I'd like another steelbook, I'll probably cast my lot with the Target edition.

I'm curious as to what the slipcover from the kimchi release is for, if it ships with a steelbook that obviously can't fit it properly.

No @Creasy47. Have a look at the Kimchi Unboxing youtube video's I sent you. These slipcase are always specifically made for this exclusive release, thus they always perfectly fit the steelbook. Moreover, these cardboard slipcases usually are quite beautiful, with a fabric-soft finish and debased/embossed and silver/gold title fonts. They are really nice sets. The numbered cards are like credit cards (size/material wise).

@Gustav_Graves, you already answered this earlier, makes sense.
  • Glad I found this thread and this website. The 007 films are my favorites among the 1000 plus Blu Rays DVDs etc. I have. I plan on ordering Spectre Steelbook from Kimchi DVD when it comes up for pre-order. Previously, the only Kimchi set I really wanted was The Fifth Element which I was too late for as I didn't know about it when it went on pre-sale however I pre-ordered it from someone who put it up on EBay prior to their receiving it at twice the price, which is okay, I guess. I like the Lenticular cover and also unlike Bond - I have the Bond art and poster books, and the Spectre edition Taschen book - there are no Fifth Element books, which I found surprising, and the one that comes with the set looks it will be nice. Although I'm guessing the Sony remastered in 4K Blu Ray, which I also have, will have the nicer image of the two as a film.

Anyway, how do I manage to pre-order one of the 500 lenticular Spectres. Can that be done through the website, as with Kimchi, or must I join a group buy. If so, how? I'd prefer to order on my own, if at all possible, but with only 500 copies of this and 3,000 of the Kimchi, this is going to be a tougher get.

I also purchased Spectre in HD from MGO. As has been discussed earlier in the thread, is there a way to adjust the picture settings to make the film appear more natural and less brownish/yellow tint? I get that it was an artistic filming choice, but just like forgoing the iris opening for type set at the beginning of the film, I'd much prefer that was consistent with most of the other films. I tried pushing color to 100 from 50, and that seems to have helped somewhat, but not the fix I'm looking for, if there even is one possible. It's still an enjoyable film, I'm just hopeful I can get it to a more natural state.

On a related note, I also rented The November Man in 4K from MGO, not knowing what the film would be like, and I very much enjoyed it, and thought it was stylish and did a great job of emotional payoff with the characters, particularly the ending. I don't know why it isn't higher rates than it is among people, these films are meant as entertainment, nothing else.

@JamesBond4kUhdBluRay, you came from the Bluray.com site, did you not? You'd be better off finding out that information over there, as @Gustav_Graves and I are the only two really following along with the universal steelbook/exclusive releases. If you want one of the Blufans copies, you have to get in on the Group Buy over on the bluray.com site, it seems to be the only way. Seeing as it's limited, too, it's pretty much a game of time now; maybe you'll reserve a copy in time once the GB is available (and nobody has an idea of when that is), and maybe you won't.

So, if you want to get in on the Blufans release, just keep your eyes on the Group Buy sub-forum on that site. The kimchi version will be available for pre-order around midnight EST on February 4th.
  • Yeah thanks for the information. With Kimchi I find that if I just click the notices tab every day I'll know what to do. So that's how I found out Spectre is up for pre-order on February 4th. However guess now I have to go back and see about the BluFans edition. Or possibly check the Blu Fans website and see if there is a similar option there. The mobile site is in Chinese however and haven't been to the full site yet (nor do I know what characters to click to change to full web site from mobile.)

I did come from there, and quite frankly, as a collector myself, we're weird and the last thing I want to do is start a collection of steelbooks I don't really need. Some of those people are really obssessed. Although I kind of like the idea of the Bond steelbooks and have them all except for the lame early ones with the identical Blu Ray covers and Goldeneye, since the film hasn't been remastered properly. I also collect music I have nearly every Billboard hit ever but as I'm in the music business and somewhat in the film and television business by extension because of what I specifically do in music, that's very practical and could work as a DJ or music consultant or on a number of professional levels. But I'll bet I haven't even watched half of my Blu Rays and wish I could have the money back for a lot of the garbage in my collection, plus have no desire to buy anything just for the sake of having it in a film collection ever again, if I don't have a real interest in the project.

The Bond films are different. They are pure escapist fantasy and consistently well produced, even those that are largely dismissed, and every single James Bond actor has brought something worthwhile and entertaining to the role. (It's very much a shame that Lazenby proved to be too emotionally immature to continue after one, especially considering the remarkable way he lobbied for the job.)

Happy to help! Apparently, the Group Buy sessions will be ending soon once Blufans opens up their online site, which I suppose will make things more accessible yet much harder to get ahold of at the same time. However, I don't think this is happening for another few months still, so the SP Group Buy will still be an option in the coming weeks, I suppose.

I used to be real bad when it came to blu-ray collecting, I was obsessed. Sometimes I'd buy movies I hadn't seen in years (and didn't remember much from) because it was a 'good price' or 'Oh, I remember that one cool scene,' and then I'd get them and realize I either wasted my money, or I'd organize them in my ever-growing collection and never get around to watching them, so I really had to pump the brakes on what I bought and only focus on movies that I know I enjoy and that I know I'll rewatch.
  • Yeah me too. That's exactly what collecting at that level does. You can never complete the collection. You waste money. You never get around to watching half of them. It's an addiction. The more I think about it, if I don't get the Spectre lenticular edition it won't be the end of the world. It's almost worth paying the extra money from a reseller not to have to constantly check a thread at BluRay.com like a moron with nothing else in his life better to do...Just found that there's a better edition of Kingsman the Film Arena one than Kimchi and its around $100 new same as Fifth Element. But I already have the film on Blu Ray and 4K MGO download. I can buy the 4K disc if I want to as well but why? Particularly since the film was shot in 2K to begin with so my 4K download is just an upconverted HD Blu Ray. The only true 4K disc I know of from an original 4K shoot all the way through so far is Sicario which I preordered along with the Samsung player. Also the films cinematographer is same as Skyfall so it's bound to look really good. After that it's just a matter of buying 4K discs for the new releases as they come out instead of Blu Ray.

Jesus, and here I am impressed with my 48" HDTV and blu-ray player!
  • I saw it twice in IMAX at the Chinese. Watching it on Samsung SUHD from MGO as an HD download is not all that different.
