ACTING BEHIND THE MASK: DANIEL CRAIG'S INSPIRED PERFORMANCE IN SPECTRE'S PTS

Acting behind the mask...

SPECTRE's a lightning rod. I happen to agree with many of the critics, but I can't help myself, and find it immensely enjoyable, primarily because Daniel Craig is so in control. I find it very re-watchable. This is a film that I love, although I see the glaring warts.

Saying all of this, what do people think about Craig's acting behind the mask in the PTS? No matter what you think of the film as a whole, I'm wondering your thoughts on this.

My own personal view is I find him very unsettling. The killer lurks beneath. The twitches and head movements. The entire time thinking of how he's about to assassinate this man who's just walked by him. Using this anonymous woman as cover. Eyeballing his neighbours in the elevator. Getting turned on by whatever she whispered to him. Dancing her out of the elevator. Sliding his cane in the holder just inside the hotel room door. The flick of the hat...

I simply love his work "behind the mask".

    I agree. DC is totally in his element here. Every mannerism is on point. From the moment Sciarra walks past him and he takes the girl's hand I remember watching this scene with a smile on my face thinking Bond is in the house. Gone are the days of rookie agent in CR to a rounded,self assured assassin. I do re-watch this a lot. All said and done SP is my favourite Craig entry. Love it.

    I didn't really over think it that much just thought it was a cool scene.The mask and outfit were really cool and it was a good PTS

    I thought he was a sociopath hidden behind the mask. This characteristic reared its head again when he met Sciarra's wife at the funeral, and then again when he admitted to the widow that, yes, he was nuts and her husband wouldn't take his death personally... Craig was bang on...

    But, in the PTS he conveyed this all with his face covered. Awesome work.

    I don't think he is a sociopath just a man that would do whatever it takes to get the mission done for his country.

    I don't mean sociopath in a Michael Myers/Jason Vorhees kinda way; I'm talking about a man than can compartmentalize his job, and, although it's killing, he convinces himself it's for the greater good. And it is for the greater good, but, by Christ, most of the time it means taking another life! That's a sociopath in my eyes. And 007, with his licence to kill, is a sociopath. A handsome, charming, sociopath, but, a sociopath nonetheless!

    Seeing Craig moving cool and smooth through that PTS and realising that Craig finally has become 100% Bond was sending shivers down my spine.
    Craig oozes Bond in Spectre from the first second to the last like only Connery could in his prime.

    Compared to this performance, Craig more or less sleepwalked through Skyfall.

    I have also felt the pulse and the way he sways in the elevator, you get a sense that this skeleton man may just "bone" her right there and then. It is realyl quite remarkable when you stomp to think about it.

    I think it is great symbol. I must think about a song from Dutch (half Italian) singer. The song is named ''Masker af'' for his album named ''De Waarheid'' (The Truth) in 1997.

    Time to set it off. For me it confirmd of trademarks of symbol producers using. Inspecialy since QOS. I refer to ''Writing on the wall''. But i also think it symbol to Casino Royale ''You Know My Name'' or Eliot Carver (TMND), Dominic Greene (QOS) and Hans (Spectre).

    All I know is that it's the best pre-title sequence in its entirely. Very Bondian. Very elegant.

    A mixture of Fleming's assassin, and the film 007. It's a mini-film and, as you say, elegant.

    His suits didn't look that comfortable to me. That scene where Bond is walking away from MI6 after his meeting with M and Denbigh and tge camera films him from behind as he's "walking"; he's moving like he's got a wedgy and that his trousers are about to split any second.

    I'm no expert ( I only wear a suit to weddings or funerals ) but to me, the suits in SP
    we're better than the suits in SF, which did look a bit " Tightly fitted " in a few scenes.
    For Me the Best Dressed Craig Bond was in QOS. He had some lovely suits in that one.

    I love Spectre's PTS. The way Craig moves in the mask and skeleton suit are perfect. Something I have wondered about, however: does anyone else find it strange that Bond pulls off the skeleton print coat, tie, shirt and pants - all in a matter of seconds, almost like they're tear-away clothing - only to reveal another coat, tie, shirt and pants underneath? I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to wear two sets of clothing like that!

    Of course, they want to have Bond wearing Tom Ford throughout the PTS, gotta keep up that product placement deal... The moment also reminds me of Connery removing the wet suit and revealing a white tux in Goldfinger.

    But perhaps it would have been better if Bond had simply removed the skeleton print coat before going out on the rooftops. Then undo his tie, throw it aside as he walks, and spend the rest of the PTS in a black shirt and pants. I imagine he would have looked quite cool in all black. (And I always thought it odd that he spends the entire PTS, running and fighting, in a coat and tie. But then again, these are Bond movies after all...)

    @doubleoego You mean me? I found it useful to differentiate between the different pieces of the suit for the sake of discussion. Why do you ask?
