I'm creating this thread to see if any members here have any memorable cinema audience reactions to the James Bond films from Dr. No (1962) to Spectre (2015)?

The only one that firmly sticks in my mind is the audience laughing at the jokes at the end of TWINE but then again I've only seen Bond films in the cinema since TND. :))

This is the place to share your memories! I look forward to hearing them! :)

Sadly there wasn't very many in the cinema I saw Spectre in as it had been out a while by the time I got around to seeing it! :))

I think during my 5th viewing of CR in theaters, it was actually on an Air Force base where I was stationed, you could literally see everyone cringe their legs and private parts and yelling when Dan was getting his nuts cracked.

Same movie, different part. Big laugh, everyone thinking that M meant C standing for c*nt. Obvious joke.

Away from that though, I remember my first ever visit to watch Bond at the cinema, the release of TLD. At the end of the movie everyone just let out a massive round of applause. Quite amazing for my first time.

Skyfall, when the DB5 was revealed. The audience, myself included, nearly jumped from their seats and began to cheer. Huge clap during the 50th anniversary logo, too.

Most memorable for me would be the press screening of twine in London where at the end of the pts everyone launched into huge applause.

2006. CR. Very last scene. When Craig says the 'Bond. James Bond' line and the Bond theme starts.

A 15 years old french guy who looked like a midget version of this:

Got up from his seat and yelled 'F*ck yeah!'

The opening of the parachute at the end of the PTS of The Spy Who Loved Me. The theater erupted in applause

I remember people cheering at the DB5 reveal in SF and when Bond saw it get destroyed with a pissed off face.

Only been to Skyfall and Spectre. But the moments that got the best reactions where:

    1. DB 5 reveal (awing)

    These got some good laughs

    2. Ejector seat gag
    3. "What makes you think this is my first time"
    4. "M... Bitch"
    5. "What did you say you did for living"?

Sadly the reactions to Spectre wasn't very good.

All i can remember is someone laughing at: "Does it do anything"? "It tells the time"

Applause.... I clapped at the end of SPECTRE (I saw it alone so there were no family members to embarrass there) & a few in the theatre joined me.
Audience reaction generally sucks these day.

What really helps sell that scene is the silence, something modern filmmakers seem to fear. It sets up the payoff of the chute opening, eliciting an even stronger reaction from the audience. Then all of this is followed by the sublime opening to the title song. Perfection.

Biggest audience reaction I ever experienced was in Star Wars (1977) when Han showed up & again when the Death Star exploded. Crazy cheers & clapping.

I started seeing Bond films in theaters with Die Another Day, so I don't speak with too much experience, but certainly the best audience I've had watching a Bond film was in Casino Royale. Every joke seemed to land with them and there were HUGE laughs with "That last hand nearly killed me," and with a lot of the zingers in the torture scene, namely "Now the whole world's gonna know you died scratching my balls!" Great experience, and sadly hasn't been duplicated since for me.

Watched every Bond since Octopussy, nothing stands out though us English tend to be low key when it comes to audience reactions. I tend to shush any disturbance when I am intently trying to watch a film [-(

During Spectre some guy was sitting in his seat moving to the grove of the music from the Day of the Day festival scene. Oh wait, that was me! :D

There were a few chuckles though. It was also memorable because I was one of like 10 people there. It was a day before the official release so I got to see it without a massive crowed. It was lovely.

I saw Skyfall twice, the second time there was some idiot having a go at Bond for everything he did, most annoying.

During Spectre, 'we all know what C stands for got a huge laugh'. 'Overdue holiday' got a huge laugh in the Spectre trailer.

The ends of TWINE and DAD were received with groans - the millennium bug gag and the Moneypenny VR gag.

I don't understand the whole applausing thing, the actors etc aren't there, so what's the point?

I got to see it at an advanced screening. Great experience, huge IMAX screen, but the audience seemed disengaged for most of the film.

The couch gag in Spectre and Bond pushing the Fiat in Spectre were not well received - they were met with groans rather than laughs. Q's line about brining the DB5 in one piece was met with ripples of laughter though.

I've seen every Bond since TWINE at the cinema and think that the humour in Casino Royale was probably best received by the audience.

PTS, Goldeneye, when Bond jumps off the cliff to follow the aircraft down, people were just laughing...not good

Nothing in SP except for a few laughs during a moment in the initial Q/Bond meeting & exchange at MI6 (I think it was the DB5 gag).

Most memorable from the past were "Bond James Bond" in CR (audiences were clapping & cheering after the film) and both the DB5 gag in SF (cheers) and ending of SF (clapping & cheering again).

I remember cheering during the initial teaser trailer for GE as well ("You were expecting someone else?").

The humour of the torture scene in CR was well received. People seemed bored by DAD.

It was a genuine, uncalculated reaction.

moments that i remember getting big laughs..

    TWINE

"i know exactly where to put that." - what Moneypenny says to Bond after he hands her a cigar.... a tongue-in-cheek reference to Clinton/Lewinski scandal.

    DAD

    "Saved by the bell."

    CR

"now everyone will know you died scratching my balls."

and also from the same scene...

"no! no!.. to the right! to the right! to the right!"

    QOS

i dont recall too much laughter through the movie - but i think i recall some laughter when Mathis' lover tells him that if it weren't for MI6's mistake, he would not have been given such nice home as an apology.

    SF

"Are you sure this is about M?" - and of course "What makes you think this is my first time?" "Oh Mr. Bond." - that got a good laugh.

    "Welcome to Scotland."

    SP

Bond landing on the sofa in the PTS
'New York, New York' blaring when Bond switches 'atmosphere'
The airbag going off in the Fiat.

My initial viewing of Spectre was the one that really stood out as far as audience reaction. The gun barrel opening gained a round of applause. As did the end of the PTS.
And the end of the movie also got a round of applause and cheers from the audience.
Everyone seemed to laugh when they were supposed too. Maybe this is part of the reason that the film worked for me. First impressions count after all.

How is there only one mention of the parachute jump in TSWLM?

Go back and look, there are a couple.

I missed one, so there were two. Still, I expected more, given how so many people have told me that it was basically the biggest reaction in Bond cinema ever.

How was the reaction to Blofeld appearing in the FYEO PTS, and when he got dropped down the smokestack?

The ending of the PTS must've only served to disappoint people even more, given how the earlier references to OHMSS would've "set your hopes up way too high". I guess the living's in the way Blofeld dies, huh?
