Should an Oscar be Given for Stunts?

I think so. Why not? Action films are becoming better and better all the time and more sophisticated. They are garnering more acclaim critically and I think it's time another facet of film making should be applauded in the awards shows. They finally created one for animated films, have a ton of minor, even piddling awards for technical things, why not for stunts? The process is epic for many films, take a great deal of skill, and should be recognized.

Thoughts?

There is a Stunt awards ceremony but I do agree that an Oscar would be
A great mark of respect, to a fantastic profession =D>

Yes. Stunts are more entertaining than most things for which they give out Oscars and consider to be "art".

Yes. Especially in a time where stunts are more and more replaced by CGI, it would be good to honor those who still do them "the old way". I know that MTV honors the best action sequence in their movie awards, but an Oscar would be nice.

That's a very good suggestion @Gerard honour those who still do stunt work
    For real, in camera. =D>

I guess there's been a push for many years to get just such a thing moving forward but the Academy keeps shooting down the idea. Too bad. I bet it happens eventually.

I don't know if an Oscars stunt category is totally necessary, but I've been lobbying for an Action/Adventure category for as long as I can remember.
  • If they give an Oscar for the best stunt, then it opens a can of worm : the Oscar for best stunt double, then for double for some scene when a skill is needed, then for body double and so on.. Try to find the names of the doubles of your favorite stars in your favorite movies, it's often very difficult. Don't spoil the magic, the Award winner will never thank his stunt double.

The can of worm was opened when Avatar won the Oscar for best Cinematography for something the film accomplished almost entirely thanks to computer help. If this important category can be awarded to someone who sits in front of his computer all day, then they can give Oscars for best stunt.
  • Avatar's non-CG only scenes are still amongst the best native 3D scenes as far as cinematography is concerned. They dealt with the depth of field problem much more successfully than many 3D movies since then.

Absolutely their should be. Sadly the powers that be do not appear to acknowledge their talent and bravery.

There are so many categories already.

Besides which I can't stand any award ceremonies.

Wouldn't really affect Bond either way these days.

Back in the 80s Bond would have cleaned up but I would say the crane jump in 06 was the last truly impressive Bond stunt.

Yes, there probably should be such an award but we all know that the snobs at the Oscars would never allow it!

Seeing how much the Oscars are on the minds of several studios, wouldn t this encourage risking health and lives?
