I don't see EON wanting their Bond actor to be starring in a tv series at the same time that he is the incumbent Bond. Has that ever happened before?

In his day, I'm sure Cubby wouldn't stand for it. But the film industry is now a very different place with some of the more exciting roles on TV rather than film. The usual "rumoured" suspects Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Damien Lewis and Adrian Turner are all successfully juggling both TV and Movies without problems.

So far BB has done no wrong at all in that regard.
Since GoldenEye Bond has seen only success.

Aidan Turner is the new favourite after a slew of bets have been placed on him.

    http://www.unrealitytv.co.uk/showbiz/why/

    This is a non story.

The reason he is now favourite is because in a desperate effort to make his increasingly irritating 13-year-old-girl-at-a-One-Direction-concert fantasy of Turner as Bond become a reality @Mendes4Lyfe has just remortgaged his house and is touring round every Ladbrokes putting £5k on Turner which has sent his odds tumbling so that at the bookies, at least, he is now favourite.

It's all irrelevant as the only favourite that counts is in Babs opinion. And we all know she's almost as bad as @Mendes4Lyfe when it comes to regressing into a trembling teenager when Dan walks in the room.

The difference is that Babs is in charge of hiring Bond not @Mendes. Thank Christ.
I don't believe it! Just like that, Aidan Turner is the favourite. Could this day get any better?

    Oy vey, this baselessness again...

Not to be offensive here, but reading your posts sometimes can be like reading the comments of an eight year old. So quick to believe, despite everything to the contrary. Your reaction to this Turner business, no disrespect to the man, is like watching a kid rejoice on Christmas Eve, shouting "Santa was here! Santa was here!" while all those around them just let the kid believe, instead of crushing his dreams and sharing that they were the ones who actually got the presents for him and ate the milk and cookies meant for the big man.

I can't help but get a headache from it all, really. It is very much like watching a gaggling group of teenage girls talk about a boy they all like, or bigfoot hunters trying to persuade the world that their life has been spent in pursuit of something real. Every day, someone, usually you, makes a comment about how things are really moving and EON are getting out Bond 25 at lightning speed, but with absolutely no information/sources other than rag journalism to rely on (let's not forget, these same people were pushing Damien Lewis). Getting by on hopes, dreams and faith may work in the movies, but in the real world it has no practical place. Things don't just happen because you desire them to. Certain factors must fall into place, like, say, a distribution deal. You know, the thing many here with their dream castings fail to realize is still an issue, a roadblock in the way of their chosen actor realizing their Bond destiny, yada yada yada.

It's going to be very hard for me not to say "I told you so" about a million times in a post the day it's announced that Dan is signed for Bond 25. I'm really going to do my damnedest that day to resist the temptation, but I'm certainly not daring enough to make any promises.

    Hear f**king hear.

So Theo James has now been confirmed? Better than Turner, that s for sure.
They just confirmed that Pierce Brosnan is returning as Bond, with Lee Tamahori as the film director to make a follow-up to Die Another Day.

I'd much rather have this than Jamie Bell or Theo James as Bond.

According to this Hiddleston is the front runner according to this article even though it means as much as what flavor of Ice Cream Daniel Craig likes.

When I saw that clip on the boat on the news from which that photo above came from, I remember thinking EON had lost their marbles. Only when I saw the first photo of him holding the PPK with that steely glare did I realize Babs was onto something.

@bondjames I was at the gym on that day. CNN on the TVs. I felt sick.

And then there was the promo-pic with the PPK... and shortly thereafter the re-do publicity pic with the proper hair cut... My tension started to ease...

    The payoff was CR.
Exactly what happened with me @peter, and in between I also watched Layer Cake, which allayed my irrational fears and raised anticipation.

If I'm honest I never doubted Craig as Bond, always thought it was inspired casting. All the comments about his hair and his life-jacket were just ridiculous.

I wasn't too keen on him being cast. But, the "life-jacket" and "hair colour" are nothing but balderdash. Imagine if Picasso was a dwarf for example, and people wouldn't have taken him seriously no matter how good his art would've been. Some idiotic things some people say sometimes. An actor should be judged on his performance and act, not what he wears (life jacket, in this case) or looks like (blond and rugged)...

Whoever follows Craig they've got some mountain to climb.

Just looking at that trailer you can see how he changed look of Bond like no one else has since Connery in 1962.

I thought he was more than likely gone now I'm not so sure, as it has already been said shopping around for other actors is nothing new look at Moore later era.

One thing is for sure if he returns they have the material for an extra for the Blu ray and DVD for Bond 25 about the speculation of whether he would return or not and the actors that were mentioned and touted but Craig came back.

If Craig does return for one or two more it's likey that Hidds & Turner will be off the table by the time Craig does retire and they'll be on to the next up and comer for the role.

I know what you mean but I think you can't compare a painter to an actor when it comes to how one looks. I think for an actor, especially for a role like this, looks are quite important. You simply can't have a "dwarf" Bond, even though his acting is excellent.

This is ludicrous. Are people really suggesting a dwarf could be a credible Bond merely as long as his acting was up to scratch?

Or do some people think we should have a separate ParaBond series to give everyone a chance? Dwarf Bond, prosthetic leg Bond, wheelchair Bond, blind Bond, deaf Bond, cerebral palsy Bond? We wouldn't want to live in a society where being quadriplegic holds you back from achieving your dream of playing Bond would we?

Inclusivity is one thing but some people were born never to play Bond.

I am never going to play for England due the cruel hand fate dealt me of not being good enough at football. Life is harsh - get used to it.

Good God, no! When I was making the claim of "acting performance and talent", I meant with an actor that has the qualification to portray Bond. Like his height, nationality, ethnicity. Meaning a tall, white, British and a rugged male actor who looks like a powerful man, not a softy male model... or a dwarf for instance. Craig had all that. Even though he's far from being my favourite, I never approved of the comments of him about being blond, or "ugly" (yes, because some do confuse 'rugged' with being 'ugly'), or wearing the life jacket, or not being able to drive cars as some rumours of it surfaced about ten years ago ridiculously so to say.

EDIT: Yes, I respect and appreciate EoN/BB but I don't have complete blind trust.

EoN makes some great calls and some bad calls. I just am not convinced their vision of the future of Bond is the same as mine.

Just saying. Not saying in a disrespectful way either.

I don't think the title of this thread has anything to do with it; some are set on Craig not returning, and others are set on him still playing the role in 'Bond 25.' Opinions vary, speculation varies. It's sad that some are 100% set on a particular actor taking over without being able to discuss any other outcome or scenario, and it's also sad that some are 100% set on Daniel Craig definitely returning, and can't seem to even entertain the idea of it not happening, or someone else entering the picture.

I guess the ones betting on Craig staying are his fans( the fans who have him as his number 1 Bond) everyone else can think of both scenarios but I understand the Craig fans i didn't want Pierce to be replaced after DAD and refused to accept another actor in the role.

Maybe its part of why it took me some time to like Daniel as Bond.

Id be happy if he stays. how sad it would be that now i liked him he leaves but i wouldn't be surprised if he is replaced, i just hope to like the new guy from the beginning of his tenure I don't want to get into a vicious circle that i like the actor who is about to leave.

With Pierce i started late in the franchise, with Craig at first I didn't like him so really I don't want this become a vicious circle.

The Purity deal is for megabucks so it makes sense why Craig would turn down a mega deal for two more Bond films. He can make big bucks doing the tv show. In money terms he can afford to say no to more Bond. It's quite a canny move by Craig but I'm sure those wanting more Craig Bond films will feel upset.

He can afford to not work on anything ever, if he so chooses to, so whatever he might now get paid for one job is highly unlikely to have the slightest impact on his interest to do or not do another job.

Why would anyone think he'd pick jobs based on what he gets paid for them? Why would he? Makes zero sense.

And why do some people think we now know a hell of a lot more than we did a couple of days ago, and things are "moving fast" and whatnot? Where does that thinking come from? This is one weird thread...

Right? Every day there's somebody saying (usually the same people), "Oh boy, I can smell Bond 25 coming!" or, "Just a matter of time now, things are really moving," and "A 2018 release date is totally assured!"

I'm a realist and base predictions on empirical data, so I don't see where all these clues pointing to massive gears moving in the EON machine are coming from. It is amusing, however, to watch people react who think there are.

People think going forward without Dan will keep things moving quick, release wise, but I'd say it's the opposite. Without Dan, EON would have to figure out if they are going to keep the continuity going with another actor (bad idea, IMO) or restart entirely, in which case even more time has to be spent planning what that future will be like, and what vision will drive it, as they did with Craig pre-CR, and to do that they'll actually have to decide on an actor. That process will take a long time all on its own.

Until we hear things about a distribution deal officially secured, there's no point in discussing anything else. No matter how much EON wants to make a move, they can't until MGM sort things out on their end, and they seem to be in no rush to get things done, either. I'm not surprised Dan is keeping himself busy; if he didn't it'd be like sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office after you know he's called in sick.

Personally, I think that a reboot would be a bad idea if that's what you were suggesting. There's been enough reboots in Hollywood and they've already done one in Bond. If they get a new actor I think they should devote a small part of the film to Bond fighting in an updated war (I'm all for a period piece [WW2] of course but that won't happen) then show him being recruited into the service and his first simple spying assignment that goes horribly wrong. The only thing is that this would be before Bond is recruited into the 00 section so he couldn't kill and I guess he wouldn't have a gun but this could be interesting. They could bring back Spectre one or two films later. Or is what I suggested a reboot? LOL. I see it as a prequel.

I can't help but think that if Eon really are interested in Hiddleston as a potential replacement, that possibly a part of the appeal (probably just a small part) is that he looks a little like a young Daniel Craig.

I remember back in 2005, in the old Mi6 threads, that some were convinced that Clive Owen was the new Bond and he had never even auditioned. There was a girl on those threads, Australian I think, who was almost entirely convinced, if not 100% convinced that Julian McMahon would be the new Bond. After Craig was announced, she disappeared.

I remember reading the below announcement along with the one regarding Casino Royale being Bond 21 all those years ago. I was at work both times. Damn, how time flies. The Craig announcement excited me more. I was pretty pleased to hear that Brosnan had gone. I really didn't like him as Bond. He was passable in GE and then he just went down hill from there. In some scenes his acting was just plain bad.

    https://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/james_bond_6_announced.php3?t=&s=&id=0951

If we do get a new actor in the role, it'll probably be the first time that the Bond actor will be younger than me. Please, Mr Craig, come back! I don't have to feel any older than I need to. ;)

Well, enough with the reminiscing. May the fun speculating continue...

Oh, on a side note, if Craig does return, it would be great if they gave him the same haircut that he had in Casino Royale. It's modern, hip, not scruffy and makes him look younger.

"He can afford to not work on anything ever, if he so chooses to, so whatever he might now get paid for one job is highly unlikely to have the slightest impact on his interest to do or not do another job."

@Tuulia Lucky man. I should have continued with my acting classes. ;) Nah, I got tired of them after a while.

I share these sentiments. Craig is most likely the last Bond actor who is older than me as well. I kind of would like the next Bond actor to be more or less around my age (same age as Tim in Daylights). But please at least TRY to go back to every other year!
I agree, the Casino haircut looked great on Daniel. Actually his hair-do in Spectre wasn't that much different from his first outing. They should go back to that if he returns.

Look at this at around 3m20s, apparently Stallone, Keaton, Schwarzenegger, Emma Thompson and Sharon Stone had good odds from bookmakers to become Bond instead of Brosnan.

Die Another Day "more intense, more real"..? Is Brosnan referring to the original script before Tamohori changed it and messed it all up?

Bond's "inner demons" in GE? When they referred to increased characterisation in a Bond film prior to CR, they meant about 60 seconds of dialogue or facial expressions turning a one dimensional character into a 1.2 dimensional one.

I want Craig to continue to play Bond because well I don't want another Pierce situation for me. I was devastated when Pierce wasn't coming back and it took me awhile to getting use to a new Bond. So I don't want them same to happen to Craig who I am a fan of. Big one.
