I know what you mean, I always thought that dialogue felt a little forced and unnatural.

So we can forgive the rest of the film because that song is too good!
    Dusty was great! Miss her.

I disagree. It would of been out of character for Brosnan, but that is what makes Craig's Bond different

As for the worst Bond moment

    -CGI Iceberg scene no brainer

-Hiring Moore back for AVTAK. Would of been a perfect time to introduce a new Bond instead of watching Grandpa Bond try to move around

    Kerim's Ten Dirtiest Moments:

    It's my definition of dirty.

    10. Timmy reaches up Pam's skirt to grab her weapon and is disappointed to find a tiny gun.
    9. Roger teaches us a valuable life lesson in not going off half cocked with a virgin.
    8. Danny's little finger has a mind of its own.
    7. Dink gets red in the cheeks for hearing all that guy talk.
    6. Roger gets cheeky with a sumo wrestler.
    5. Ruby Bartlett shows Bond how to draw numbers.
    4. Chew Me, well Chew You too!
    3. Dear Ms. O'Toole, If you're going to swim with the fishes, wear drak clothing.
    2. Complementing Bond a being another name for a clever language speaker wasn't very funny Samantha.

And the #1 Kerim's Dirtiest Moment is.....

    1. Q explaining to M that Bond and Dr. Holly are making a second attempt to penetrate through the earth's atmosphere.

Edit: Wow, did I misread the title of the thread.

    My most dire moment?

"This never happened to the other fella!"

Forever cemented in my mind the thought of George Lazenby as nothing more than a pretender in the role of James Bond.

My second-most dire moment was the way Bond seduced every last one of the Angels of Death with the same gimmick, word for word. I know Bond is a womaniser, but this was just plain sleazy. And then, twenty-four hours later, he's proposing to Tracy.

QOS- the opera scene in which the editing is so bad that it makes the direction of Joe Shumucker's Batman and Robin look like a masterpiece. in fact count the whole movie as an abysmal faliure

I thought the Tosca scenes were ones where even the most fervent QoS basher/Brosnan podder thought it was very good.

The camera angles, edits and action blended into a classic scene. I have to say I look forward to it when I put the DVD on.

The cheesy helicopter explosions in DAF and the editing of QoS.
  • The majority of movies where they turn Bond into a joke like DAF, DAD, MR, and AVTAK and then other moments in films like YOLT, TND, TWINE and TMWTGG. It's the type of stuff where you absolutely cannot believe it made it to the final film.

If I could redo the entire timeline to 'fix' some of the things we got in the movies it'd be to have Connery do a true adaptation of the MR novel for his 5th film (and for him to stay in shape after TB), have Lazenby do OHMSS and a true adaptation of YOLT, Moore to play Bond more slightly more seriously through 1983, Dalton from 1985-1993, Brosnan 1995-2003 (and for the producers to get decent writers post-GE) and Craig 2006-Present. I feel like that'd cut out a lot of the dead weight Bond films like DAD, YOLT, DAF, AVTAK, etc.

There are bound to be dire moments in a series that has lasted 50 years, but the opening gambit said it all. When Bond parasurfed over the waves I literally squirmed and looked around the cinema as if I actually felt a little responsible for this (being a Bond fan). I may have even muttered a few 'sorries' to the people in the next seats, and promised it wouldn't happen again if they were good enough to part with their money for the next Bond film.

In the same film there was some excellent syncronised surfing at the start of the film, forgotten for ever thanks to the CGI parasurfing debacle.

But you have to ask yourself, why in the name of all things sacred, would a group of 00's be SURFING into a mission? I mean, WTF?! Is that a mode of transport favoured by the world's special forces?

No. It exists to fulfill Lee Tamahori's love for surfing. Surfing is actually one of the stupidest ways to infiltrate one of the world's hotspots, as the enemy could easily see you on top of that huge wave.

What makes me laugh about that scene is to picture Brosnan, who was near 50 and slightly overweight, could surf such a wave...
  • To be honest, I do my best to live my life pretending DAD never actually happened. I remember feeling empty to the very core of my soul, when I saw it for the first time.

Well yes, but I think picking holes in any Bond films and questioning the sense of what you are watching...it would keep you awake at nights. ;)

At the end of the day Bond isn't above sneaking into a circus dressed as a clown.

I have actually seen slight overweight guys pushing 50, taking on huge waves, so it isn't that far out as say Moore escaping an exploding spacestation?

Would it be believable if Moore's Bond had surfed such a wave in AVTAK ? Or had done parkour in OP ? Even if stuntmen did the stunts, would you actually believe Moore could have done such things ? Kind of what I feel with Brosnan in that scene.

imagine this... and this is probably thinking way too hard into a film that requires you to be brain dead to enjoy it (lol).. but how did they get close enough to surf onto the beach?.... the only thing i could think of, is that they were dropped by a plane, perhaps flying under the radar, and far enough away from the coast as stay out of sight... but, that wouldn't give Bond and the other agents enough time to open their parachutes and safely hit the water (unless it was done in a halo jump fashion like in TND)... which even then, you have to be pretty high up, and over international waters - unless you want foreign military chasing after your unidentified aircraft.... the same logic would apply if they were dropped off by a boat - it would have to be out of visual range...

so, if they jumped from a plane - the only explanation is that they swam a very long time, before finally surfing onto the beach.... Bond's body (especially in Brosnan's shape).. probably would've given out. lol.

The story boards for the DAD PTS have the three 00's using those little underwater things that were used in the underwater battle in TB. There was to be a handful of Moon's men waiting out in the bay to surf ashore. The three 00'S were to use those motorised things to get to Moon's men, surface, incapacitate them, steal their surfboards and surf ashore.

Thank God this didn't happen. It would have been a stupid thing added to an already stupid sequence.

I actually thought the surfing in the PTS was quite a cool sequence. Arnold's score gives it momentum and a real sense of excitement.

It also seems fairly plausible when compared to Moore escaping in a CROCODILE (love OP btw) or him snowboarding to California girls.

As for the "direst moment" the windsurfing scene wins hands-down. I'm probably one of the few but the invisible car is relatively minor compared to some of the other crap in DAD. At least there are a few funny lines in the scene introducing it.

Absolutely! If done (edited) right. Like I can also accept a 58 year old Bruce Willis doing Die Hard 5 or a 63 year old Harrison Ford doing Indiana Jones 4.

QFT - I felt utterly embarassed in the cinema, cringing into my seat in case someone might think I was a Bond fan- although that feeling had started when Jinx emerged from the sea and continued until the end of the film (only stopping briefly for a second when Bond kicks the sword into the camera).

A quick list of other moments that astonisingly have not yet been mentioned:

GF - Entire battalions of men all falling down in perfect unison.
DAF - the elephant winning on the slots.
TMWTGG - JW and the elephant, schoolgirl fight, Hip inexplicably driving off without Bond, final fight with Nick Nack.
MR - Jaws flapping, the pigeon.
    OP - Tarzan

schoolgirl fight, Hip inexplicably driving off without Bond

    IMO a very good scene.
  • Although I think the iceberg surfing scene is pretty bad, and although I know a lot of folks have mentioned AVTAK in general, I think I may have to go with the fire engine chase from the end of that movie. Moore hanging off of that ladder and kicking cowboys' hats off, I mean they ripped off the end of the Abbot and Costello movie "In Society" for crying out loud. And the scene in A&C is actually more engrossing.

Good call Gunbarrel - and welcome - the fire truck chase is possibly the worst in the series. When youve got the amazing streets of San Francisco to plan a chase on and all you can come up with is this insipid dross then you have problems.
