The scene its attached to is a penis contest between 2 free spirits and their cars.
"you are just trying to show off the size of your...your
"Engine?"
"Ego!"
Combine that with the loud engines and it fits rather well IMO. Boys, cars, sex!
Again Im not saying Arnold is a genius but I do believe he's gotten substantially better since TND. I thought his scores for CR and QOS were both solid. I think he just works better with a harder edged Bond and story.
Will Mendes care as much, in your opinion?
Considering how good he is being hailed as by the Skyfall team, he blooming well should do.
Actually, this is great music for the party scene. Remember that in the '90s, electronic lounge music and nu jazz became pretty popular thanks to artists like St. Germain. Fancy parties played such music all night long and some of them still do. I love what Arnold did here. It perfectly suits the moment. I mean, if even this little background music has to take some heat, the Arnold bashing has certainly taken irrational forms.
Also, if this is porn music, @Shark, I recommend you watch some more porn. ;-)
:-)) I like that track but I have to admit it does sound a tad "porn-ish" - Shark has a point. It wouldn't be out of place at Stringfello's or some other exotic dance club.
Um... is this advice open to anyone?
I don't know. As long as we don't have a Debbie does Bond or Debbie does MI6, I'm not sure I should continue recommending porn on this forum. ;-)
Don't get me wrong here, I love that track too. A sort of acid jazz flavour to it, which was big in the UK in the mid to late 90s. I simply saying that I can't count how many times I've heard music just like that accompanying some 90s porn film.
When that bass kicks in, I keep hearing "Ummmmm... yeeeaahh. **** me harder!"
Nah, I really like the lowkey, romantic ending. More Bond films should go for that, rather than the terrible Arnold syndrome of having to have some loud, obnoxious take on the Bond theme blaring, just to remind you watch you're watching in case you've gotten amnesia all of a sudden.
Though I love that tradition outside of Bond, mostly found in New Hollywood thrillers of the 60-70s. Remember the quiet, introspective credits of BULLITT, DIRTY HARRY, JAWS and etc? I want some more of that.
I like the low key ending of GE too.
When I think bond, I think either dalton or brosnan. TLD was my first bond film and as a teenager I watched all the brosnan films at the cinema.
I never had a problem with the romantic tune in GE. Anyway, don't you remember how Royale the book ends @DoubleOhhSeven? Its hardly Bond at his most triumphant.
There's a huge difference between ending a Bond novel and ending a Bond film. Plus CR the novel didn't have nearly 45 of years of history behind it when it was released.
It's meant to be a re-boot, technically they are wiping the slate clean ;)
Seriously, I think the romantic music in GE is actually quite sweet.
Yes but they can't expect us to forget everything about the past. Like I said ending a film and ending a novel are vert different. I can't imagine a big budget blockbuster ending with "The bitch is dead" and then cut to the credits. This being a reboot, we needed to be happy Bond was back.
In that case you can accuse them of (again) pandering to the audience
No but giving us a better ending. And one that makes more sense considering how QOS was to be a direct follow-up, which CR the novel did not have.
They got as close to the book as they could. If they did exactly what it said in the book I don't think CR would've been as good. To me it would've been too boring, not enough like a bond film. CR the book was good but, it was a book. End of the day, film bond and book bond are pretty different. But I do think if they took out alot of the action like some fanboys wanted then CR could've easily been an oscar winning bond film. But I'd rather keep the enjoyable action sequences all the bond films have than get rid of them for the sake of a stupid gold trophy.
I agree @thelivingroyale. I'm just pointing out that CR perhaps isn't as "ground-breaking" as some may say it is.
Yeah I know, CR wasn't as big a leap as alot of people make out. Dalton was doing the whole gritty darker bond thing way back in the 80s, but when CR was released everybody seemed to forget about that
Bollocks.
