    Thunderball 23/23
    TSWLM 13/23 (13/24)
    Goldeneye 1/23 (1/24)

    Only 4 other people give Goldeneye 12 points.
    I expect atleast 6th place for the movie.

    Only one movie left for this game and that's The Living Daylights..
    From my normal top 10 this are OHMSS, FRWL and TLD.

    1. Goldeneye
    2. The World Is Not Enough
    3. Tomorrow Never Dies
    4. For Your Eyes Only
    5. A View To A Kill

    6. OHMSS
    7. Live And Let Die
    8. From Russia With Love
    9. The Living Daylights
    10. Octopussy

    Roger is my favourite, but Sean's films were my first Bond experiences, hence he's probably my 'sentimental' favourite.

    05. Thunderball
    06.On Her Majesty's Secret Service

    09. You Only Live Twice
    10. Dr. No

    Well thank God TLD didn't finish behind the mediocrity that is GE! Tyhat would have been criminal! Its unlikely it will make the top 5 with the reactions to it here! SF is the only one i think is undeserving of a top ten spot of the ones remaining! Come on George for that number 1 position!

    Not too many of my Top 10 went overboard since TB (still puzzled). I assume TLD will be next and not GF or even SF.

    What makes me wonder is the many Top 1 votes for OHMSS. I absolutely think it belongs in any Bond fan's Top 10 without doubt and collected alot of reputation over the years since it's release (a bit like Hitchcock's Vertigo and I believe it will be the same for QoS).

    There are really great things in this movie: Believeable romance and tragic loss at the end of Tracy, breathtaking stunt sequences, Christmas Setting, awesome physicality of Lazenby in the fight sequences, great editing and soundtrack.

    But also the flaws: Lazenby's acting was weak in many scenes, Clothing style did not age well (Connery's style never looked as outdated), some of the Bond girls I find very annoying.

    Curious: What makes many of you like the movie so much you rank it higher than (for example) GF, FRWL or CR? Is it mostly the story itself (definitly one of Fleming's best - no doubt), the action sequences ?!

    As much as I love GE, I'm just glad TLD is still in. It appears to be hated by a few, but it's an epic Bond film and quite frankly I like it more than anything our fitness centre advert guy has made.

    OHMSS deserves the top spot despite Lazenby or maybe even because of him.
    He was perfect and I see no acting problems at all.

    None of the following films ever came near its quality most certainly not SF.

    I will love it if Skyfall cracks the top 5. Love it.

    Dalton puts Craig to shame in almost every single department.

    I agree. Daniel Craig is a poor man's Timothy Dalton.

    Craig's relatively short, and he looks more like Grant (I definitely noticed that when I watched FRWL a few nights back, particularly during the train sequence) than James Bond, but I wouldn't go that far.

    Dalton had his flaws as well, and he didn't exactly light the world on fire during his tenure.

    For me OHMSS just gets everything so right. George acquits himself well, and physically he is tremendous, literally throwing himself into the action! Excellent villain, terrific leading lady, solid story, well Directed and photographed, and considering it was made in '69, the action set-pieces are more thrilling than anything they are doing today! John Barrys great score, a brave decision to use THAT ending (instead of holding it over for DAF!), its just top notch and never fails to give me what I want from a Bond movie..every time!
    Regarding fashion, Cubby was quoted as saying George "made the suits look like they came off the wrong peg!", but i think he looked great in the tux, even getting away with the frilly shirt!!

    The thing is @Mathis, when I see that first fight scene of Bond (Lazenby) with the black henchman in the Palacio Hotel....it just reminds me A LOT of certain fight scenes in the Daniel Craig Bond films. Both Lazenby and Craig in essence have a very similar 'fighting dance': The way they move, the harshness, the realism, the bloodiness. George Lazenby for me did stuff that Craig is doing as of today.

    I wonder what he would have thought of Craig?!

    I love Cubby but he was wrong. Laz looked great in everything he wore imho.

    When it comes to favourite Bond, Dalton is number 1 for me, but i only put Craig, Connery Moore next because they did more movies, and its easier to judge. But i respect Lazenby very highly! For a novice, he did extremely well!

    Well, I don't really care about lighting the world on fire. Avatar lit the world on fire, it was a terrible film. Ordinary people have terrible taste and they prove it over and over again. For them, good films are mostly commercial successes and they never look beyond American cinema.

    I like it when Bond is a bit tormented and isn't all that likeable, that's what makes him intellectually more interesting than other "action heroes". But I don't want James Bond to look or act like an ordinary man and that's what Daniel Craig's incarnation, safe perhaps for CR, brings to the screen.

    Daniel Craig is James Bond alla Ken Loach.

    I appreciate your point of view on this, but I feel that Dalton was more 'ordinary' than Connery, Moore and Laz, and that's precisely why I never took to his incarnation.

    I agree on Craig being a bit blue collar and working class, but his films are far more polished and stylish than Dalton's two efforts, so there's quite a lot for me to enjoy despite this.

    polished and styled is fine and it certainly helps a lot in hiding Craig's obvious flaws but I rather have something straightforward visually with an actor like Dalton.

    That is what I hope for with Bond actor #7, which is why I'm not too fond of some of these off beat suggestions for a replacement like Tom Hardy. Having said that, I'd also prefer someone who can exude a natural refinement, which I didn't really get from either Craig or Dalton.

    I think Dalton looks great in his attire. That grey flannel suit in Bratislava is gorgeous. He also walks very stylishly. Look at the man's gunbarrel. Then you look at Craig's and you see a hobbit strawling around and not succeeding at a proper gunbarrel in three consecutive attempts.

    I agree that all 3 of Craig's traditional GBs have been absolutely horrid. The CR toilet one was great though.

    Yeah the CR gunbarrel was a great addition, I agree on that. I'm wondering what the Craig era would have been like if they'd continued in a more traditional way after CR.

    Particularly liked Dalton in the tux with the velcro lapels. Very cool. In fact Dalton looks good in both casual attire and suits! His gunbarrel walk is also impressive! Craig, apart from CR, really hasn't mastered the gunbarrel walk yet! To be honest, i always felt he looks faintly embarrassed to be doing it!

    In alphabetical order left:

    --> "Casino Royale"
    --> "Doctor No"
    --> "From Russia With Love"
    --> "Goldfinger"
    --> "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
    --> "Skyfall"
    --> "The Living Daylights"

    Six of my Top 007 (SF for TB). I'm in the right place... ~O)

    There are only a few Bond films that IMO have extended little movies as PTS. And those PTS sequences are completely enjoyable chase sequences, that work together with marvellous editing, exciting music and original action sequences. They are also quite a bit longer than usual PTS sequences (over 10 mins). I am talking about:

    --> The PTS from TLD
    --> The PTS from TWINE, &
    --> The PTS from SF

    Those PTS sequences...I can just rewatch and rewatch them over and over again.
  • Posts: 7,407
    I would only go with the first one there, Gustave! And i think your timing is off with some? It quite rightly won best pts poll here recently. A perfect introduction for Dalton, and a cracking, well executed set piece.
    TWINE for me was too long, (15 mins?) and the boat chase went on and on and on.... (I also cant help laughing at Brossas scowling after the shootout, not to mention Cheerful Charlie Chisloms dodgy accent! (Anybody remember 'Minder'?)
    SF i only like parts of, the motorcycle part was weirdly shot, the best moment was when Bond commandeers the digger, and his leap into the carriage. SP was more exciting for me!
