  • I think ABBA would have made a great Bond theme...

I think Queen or David Bowie could've done a good one. Maybe the Moody Blues?

    The list is endless, really.

For certain is, the likes of Jack White and Madonna should never have been allowed near a Bond film.
As a rule it should only be British artists.

Nancy Sinatra? Louis Armstrong? Carly Simon? Tina Turner? Chris Cornell?

Thank goodness they've said yes to the Americans on a few occasions!

The Welsh have made decent contributions as well... *cough* Shirley Bassey *cough* Tom Jones ;)

No, unlike Bond who should always be British, Welsh, Irish, Aussie, or some variation thereof, the singer's nationality doesn't matter so long as they are quality and suited for Bond.

This is my favourite song of the year, and probably my favourite promo clip too.

    The Weeknd & Daft Punk

He definitely could do a Bond theme. The second clip is a movie theme he already did.

    Frank Sinatra (my #1 pick)
    Dean Martin
The Beatles (though we did score Paul)
    Elvis Presley

"My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs"..............

    Frank Sinatra
    Elvis
    Dean Martin
    Bing Crosby
all would have been great for a Bond title song, IMO.
I'll throw Perry Como in there as well.

For later era artists- kind of hard to say.
I have a friend who ever since the Brosnan era and to this day still tries to sell me on the idea of Jamiroquai for a Bond track. I would have thought maybe Natalie Cole for a Brozzer film.
To be honest I had never heard of Sam Smith before last year when he was chosen for SP, so I'm not up to speed with this current decade's number one hit major stars.
No offense to fans out there, but I pretty much think guys like Justin Beiber are pretty wimpy sounding. In fact a lot of the top 40 tunes I hear played in the supermarket kind of all sound the same.
Michael Buble on the other hand, might not be bad,

I posted this under another topic, but I love this song so much I'll put it here as well. For me this is everything Writings on the Wall should have been; it's emotional but not whiney and soars when needed. This is another reason to give Duran Duran, or at least Simon LeBon another go.

    Stone Cold Crazy

    Driven by You

A Brian May guitar solo would have been welcome.

Absolutely, @talos7! That song is perfectly in the vein of what they were going for with Spectre, but as you say far more grounded and robust and nary a trace of emo. I too would be thrilled to see Duran Duran have another go. If EON genuinely care at all about the artistic or entertainment value of their films—which I believe they do—they need to stop grabbing whoever has a billion plus followers on Twitter. Worked with Adele, misfired with Smith. Or better yet they need to go back to a composer like Arnold who loves working with artists and can pick smart choices for them like k.d. lang, Garbage, and Cornell.
