Having said that, I recognize that Craig had an opportunity to shape the role like no other actor, given that it was an inception reboot. That helped him, and the others didn't quite have that blank canvas, apart from Connery as the first.
This is still my favorite Bond performance from him. If he had played his tenure more like this (after CR) he could have made a good Bond:
(He also looks much more like Bond in this clip than he does in any of his Bond movies.)
You could also say that the Rolling Stones or AC/DC earn more money today than in the past because of inflation and the bigger (global) market as well as nostalgiga. Today there are three or four generations of Bond fans whereas the number of Bond fans were of course limited in the past. You should also keep in mind that meanwhile it is really something special that a new Bond film is made whereas it happened more regularly in the past.
So I would not say that Box office can be simply linked to a particular Bond actor.
I also take Craig as my second least favourite. I have nothing against him. I just don't find him to be very charismatic and less Bondian than the others.
Exactly, nothing more and nothing less. I might like his QOS performance a bit better as I consider that a bit more Bondian.
Nevertheless, although a good actor, the DC from SF and SP is definitely my least favourite Bond. In the Mendes films, Bond was a bodybuilding Everyman, devoid of the sutble sophistication of previous Bonds. This Bond drinks beer instead of champagne, he has his hair cut like a football hooligan and works out so he can look like a bouncer.
In TLD Bond said: "I know a great restaurant in Karachi, we could just make dinner.", Mendes would have him say: "Shall we go to Burger King or McDonalds?" But hey, the cinematography looks great.
It does appear that those initial films tend to give an actor an opportunity to bring his best attributes & dynamism to the table for whatever reason, before the edge inevitably wears off.
I'm not stating that these films are not better made than some of the others. SF and SP are beautifully shot, but it's the way Bond is portrayed that I don't like.

This looks like I look down on Moore. Nothing could be further from the truth, as I love him as Bond. its just that I prefer Dalton, Craig and Connery, and Laz stars in my favourite Bond film!
And, No, I haven't forgotten Brossa! Since I think he was miscast, I don't rate him at all!

DALTON RULEZ™
for the moment:
2 LAZENBY (I decided to finally give him the number 2 spot, he actually always had with me, but I never ranked him as there is only one film.
3 Pierogean Moonnerosnan (it's actually useless trying to put one of them not on spot 3, so there you go)
6 CRAIG (maybe another actual Bond performance will put him on No 3 as well, but for now Spectre is the only film where he actually IS Bond and not some random action hero)
1) Connery
2) Moore
3) Brosnan
4) Craig
5) Dalton
6) Lazenby
2 Craig
3 Connery

I'm not wild about Craig as Bond but I do think he's a very fine actor. Conversely, Brosnan is a bit of a ham but I love his Bond anyway.
