Latest rankings. Spots 3-6 have been shaken up a bit over the years, but I think I'm pretty good with this latest sorting. Basically, I've found a lot more Rog love and a lot less Craig love.
    1. Sean
    2. Laz, the only really Sean-worthy Bond of the successors

    3. Rog. Good job. Very Bondian. Just lacked the physical edge that Laz had, otherwise he'd be challenging for #2.

Big drop-off to the meh Bonds.

    4. Dalton, too emotional but at least he was convincing as Bond
    5. Brozz. Played it straight but just wasn't really very good.

    6. Craig. The worst. Doesn't look like Bond. Amazing that Henry Cavill was passed over.

You obviously haven't seen The Greatest or The Matador. He's suprisingly good in those.

I have seen The Matador and that was terrible. Though the one movie (except Goldeneye) than was decent and starred Brosnan (pre James Bond) was The Fourth Protocal with Michael Caine.

See, with something like this, I'm a bit lenient. Roger Moore never really looked like James Bond to me, but I accepted him for what he was because he wasn't too far off from the look of Bond. But Craig is so off the mark with his looks that it's hard to ignore it.

What do you expect with Barbara Broccoli? Also, this might sound sacrilegious to some, but I wouldn't have minded if Ewan McGregor had become Bond instead of Craig. Would have been interesting to see.

Think Cavill is too young right now.

The idea that Craig doesn't 'look' like Bond is a bit passed it. He seems to have convinced almost everyone that he is at the very least a decent Bond - Skyfall may well decide whether he goes down in history as a legend or as a footnote. If looking good in a tux and having dark hair was all it took then Brozza should have been a classic Bond - instead we have a fading memory of a walk-on catalogue model who was about as convincing as Bond on screen as a stuffed goat. As others have noted, not sure Sir Rog 'looked' classically Bondian, but he won most of us over with his charm and screen presence.

Not me. Skyfall is going to make or break my opinion on him.

That's kind of what I said, isn't it? Although if this is what you think it suggests you're reserving judgement rather than an already convinced Craigophope.

I am. I don't like Craig so far, but his term as Bond isn't over yet. He might surprise me.

Completely agree Getafix. Craig "not looking like Bond" is a really shallow and outdated arguement. To me it's more important that he's a good actor and brings something to the character. Both Brosnan and Lazenby had "the Bond look" but they were both by far my two least favorite Bonds and pretty much just copied their predecessors to make up for their lack of acting ability. And Skyfall won't make or break Craig because he's already been made. He's a popular choice as of the moment and both of his films have grossed considerable amounts.

Because Craig is such a deep and complex actor. Lazenby's one performance is better than Craig's two combined.

Popular doesn't equal good. Transformers makes a lot of money at the box office, does that make it a good series?

@Dr_Metz. In regards to that Lazenby comment I think most of the people on the planet would disagree with you on that one. Lazenby kinda sucked as an actor. Casino Royale didn't just make alot of money it was practically universally praised as the best Bond film since the 60s. And as an actor Craig is far more respected than Brosnan, Moore, or Lazenby.

Oh yeah my rankings. They can change slightly from time to time.

1 and 2)Connery/Craig -Out of respect Connery is usually ahead but Craig could change that

3 and 4)Moore/Dalton -These two can switch place between #3 and #4 depending on my mood

5)George Lazenby -His lack of acting abilty really hurt him. Maybe he would've grown into the role. We'll never know.

6)Pierce Brosnan -If you frequent this site you'll know why he ranks last to me.

None of the Bond actors have really been amazing actors. Dalton, and to a lesser extent, Connery, were probably the only real exceptions, as I do consider them good actors for the most part.

That doesn't matter at all. Most people's opinions are uneducated.

Yeah, basically. Anyway, the general movie viewing audience is pretty dumb. Do you really think they know what Bond should be like?

He shouldn't be wooden and bark his lines like Lazenby I can tell you that much.

At least Lazenby didn't come out of water in tight trunks, and spout cheesy lines like "I have no armor left, You've stripped it from me". Also, Lazenby is the man, you don't know what you're talking about.

I fear the producers have too often played into the hands of the popcorn public - those who only need to hear 'Bond, James Bond' to be satisfied. To me the whole Brozza period fell victim to this tendency. It was sort of understandable with GE as they we banking on it for the future of the franchise, but afterwards it just became depressing as the lack of ambition and aparent willingness to just sit back and rake in the cash overcame any sense of tradition or commitment to quality. So yes, I agree, the general movie going public don't really know the difference between a decent Bond and a dud. And that is why the Bond nerds like us exist - to keep the flame flying for pure, unadulterated Bondism.
