I wouldn't want a very down to earth backalley meeting USB flash drive containing spy malware files to justify the plot either. A product of the mid-two-film Craig era which makes me yawn. I'd leave that to Jason Bourne and Tom Clancy universes.
At the end of the day, it's all about the execution of the vision. Screw that up and one has a mess. Nail it and one has an instant classic.
I'm not calling for MR redux. Space travel is a distinct possibility soon though and is going to change the world in many ways. It would be nice if Bond delivered a mature take on it first, before someone else does. You can see that space oriented films are making a comeback too. As with everything, it's about how one does it as much what one does. It doesn't have to be the main plot point - just a secondary one.
I'd much prefer that to some of the predictable surveillance gibberish, irrelevancy of spies (they are more relevant than ever and anyone who follows geopolitics realizes this) or idiotic soapy brotherly love and hate that we've been getting lately.
What possible reason could there be to send a British Spy, a government assassin into space?
I'll admit that my confidence that EON's current writing team could pull it off are slim to none, & certainly not with Craig's Bond.
Also, I wasn't suggesting 'Bond in space'. I was suggesting that the concept of space travel and the implications can form a part of the plot, along with some scenes relating to this (they could even be complex 'simulator' scenes). It's all about how it's done.
What could be the motive? The usual one - namely 'greed'.
Alternatively, they could even deal with a plot about the world powers competing for a piece of the Arctic. Go below ground rather than into space.
Because Judi Dench's M told him to?
The legendary colonial Raffles Hotel has Bond written all over it:
Malaysia right next door could also provide something quite different, ambience wise - more rustic. The Genting Highlands Casino Resort in the mountains which is accessible by cable car would make an interesting location.
Yes, I concur.
-"In space, no one can hear you..."
-"Stop touching your ear!"

I wish that Bond more or less stays in one or two locations. Please no more country hopping. And please let Bond 25 take place in locations that make sense for a spy thriller. So let Bond go to places where the existence of spies is realistic.
Dr No took place on UK and Jamaica. B25 could take some hints
Yes, and they fall pretty nicely into Act I (Bahamas/Miami), Act II (Montenegro), and Act III (Venice). Good structure there, thanks to Haggis.
Can haggis come back he seemed to be doing good work
Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are the strongest scripts we've had this century. No complaints here if Haggis returns.
+1
LOL, I'm picturing her on video like in SP saying "Bond after I die I need you to go to space. Don't tell anyone why you're going". Cut to Fiennes M asking him why he needs to go to space and he keeps giving snarky answers like "I can never see the stars in London" and "I haven't been since 1979" and Fiennes gets madder and madder.
Haha very good !
It'd make a perfect movie if the climax is in the villain's lair, set up in one of the many temples of that region, like Angkor Wat
