Now I obviously don't know Daniel Craig personally, but I've been involved in health and fitness for my entire adult life. I've worked as a personal trainer and in my 50's was selected for a National Firefighter's calendar for charity. I am a very good judge of body types and how an individual maintains their physiques. Trust me, Craig knows how to stay in shape. He's naturally lean and athletic. I have no doubt that , from the neck down, he could play the role for another 10 to 15 years.

But he doesn't want to make a Bond film anymore.

If he did he obviously would have done or started one already don't you think ?

He's more interested in making films that have scripts that are finished. :)

You seem to have an insight that the rest of us lack; none of us knows how he feels at this point. Many of the statements made following the release of SPECTRE could have been due to exhaustion. Time can be very rejuvenating and he may yet resurrect the role.
  • I don't know why they don't explore the idea of having just an ordinary woman Bond girl. Like a waitress or something that gets pulled along for the ride. There is definitely some area to explore there, and some opportunities for fish out of water comedy also. She would be helpless in Bonds world, but Bond is compelled to save her because he is hopelessly cynical of the world he lives in, and she comes to represent a beacon of sincerity and understanding in his cold, cruel, closed off life. She needs Bond in a literal sense, and he needs her in a more spiritual sense. This arc for the both of them could be played out subtely throughout the film. Less of a love story, more two individuals requiring each others help and obliging the other.

They've dabbled in this idea before. TLD, GE.

Go back to TSWLM novel. Update it. Viola...: Bond stumbles into a messy situation at a motel. Shoots his way out of there saving the girl. But that's just the beginning, the catalyst to a much bigger story-- who were these baddies? What were they doing at this motel? What's the bigger plan? And now that Bond stepped in it, what trouble does he find himself, Vivienne, and the world in?

Scrolling through collider.com, I was immediately greeted by two headlines about The Incredibles 2 focussing on Elastigirl and Wreck-it Ralph 2 bringing in all Disney princesses. I can´t help but think that female leads are being pushed right now, perhaps after Wonder Woman being so successful.
This could either mean that the next Bond will be female or that Bond will have a female sidekick at least ass prominent as Jinx, or that this would be the perfect time to stand out of the crowd with an un-pc, slightly sexist Bond saving the world :-).

The natural progression would be a female 00 agent working with Bond. That could work but Bond should always be the star of the films, not the supporting characters.

    Terrible, terrible idea.

Substitute the word waitress for computer programmer and that's literally exactly what we got in GE, complete with Natalya coming to terms with how cold and closed off he is (the beach scene, and then showing her understanding of this by reusing his "kill x, they mean nothing to me" bit).

I do like the idea of a normal Bond girl but I think to differentiate it from GE, they should do what @peter suggests and have it be the girls problems that Bond ends up involved in ala TSWLM, which is sort of the opposite to GE: Natalya got caught up in Bond's world with the Severnaya attack, but in TSWLM it was Bond who got caught up in Vivienne's world (even though she was very new to it herself) with the gangsters in the motel. So the way I'd do it is just as in the book introduce the girl, spend some time with her, she gets caught up in something way over her head that Bond finds himself embroiled in by chance. But there might not be enough there to sustain a whole action film so this would just be the beginning and would lead into something bigger that Bond has to stop, with the girl having some plot related reason for coming along for the ride. Which now that I've typed it is very similar to Natalya.

Basically I really like the idea but in order to make sure it isn't a complete GE retread they should add in dashes of the TSWLM novel in that it isn't Bond's problem either, at least not at first.

yes, @thelivingroyale, the motel scenes would be ACT I, but there's so much more to flesh out... Thinking of the wounded bird with a wing down, the investment in Vivienne's character would be tantamount to the story.

Perhaps, a few years ago she was in a car accident. Traumatic event that wiped out her long-term memory. She's hiding out from the past that she can't remember, in the middle of nowhere, running a motel that was left to her by a distant relative.

These men show up. What do they want? Perhaps it's something from her past, something locked inside of her amnesia, that they want?

So, once Bond stumbles upon this danger, and shoots their way out, the danger they (and others) are in, is something from Vivienne's past.

The shocking events at the motel may release this information in bits and pieces, and we then find Bond and Vivienne in a race against time to stop a catastrophic event from taking place, while, meanwhile, the "baddies" behind this event, still need her to execute their mission...

... once again, just spit-balling (before anyone takes offence, I don't take these ideas seriously, just having some fun! So before i get blasted for bastardizing the character, or the entire franchise, just take a deep breath and see that Peter from Toronto's just having a little, harmless fun)

There's still a long-standing agreement that the story content of The Spy Who Loved Me will not be used, per Fleming's wishes, I believe.

Regarding Craig's reluctance to do another Bond film: after the release of CASINO ROYALE, Daniel Craig made a comment to the press that he planned to stop working out. His expressed concern was that he "didn't want to become known as 'the fit Bond'."

The thought that he doesn't want to do the next Bond film is ridiculous on all sides. He's got some years left in him, BOND 25 is easy whether it's 2018 or 2022.

Add a few foreboding elements (like for instance the blinking Shell sign in MR with the "S" not visible), and combine it with Bond not merely being attracted to the girl, but intuitively sensing there´s something there that needs a double-oh.

Natalya is one of my favourite characters, and not only because Scorpuco played her so well. I liked the idea of an average girl drawn into extraordinary circumstances, and showing her down to earth practical smarts while all this high priced expertise around her sometimes screws it up. It was refreshing.

I like the idea of a Bournesque amnesiac situation for the female lead as well. It could provide some depth to the story.

I'd be more than happy to get a film with a bird who just tags along as a bit of eye candy and gets shagged.

But then I guess not wanting a gun toting superspy Bond girl (can you even call them that anymore?) just makes me a sexist, misogynist dinosaur in today's world.

The difference between Cruise and Craig:

    1. DC spent most of his life smoking. 2. DC likes beer. A lot.

The problem is each of their faces ages according to their lifestyles. I absolutely believe that DC can have the physique needed for Bond for quite some time, but his face is not aging well. Especially compared to Cruise.

Just in my personal opinion, due to his height and frame, he looks much better when bulked up. When he trims down and gets leaner, he looks quite a bit older from my perspective. As an example, I thought he looked pretty aged when he did that last Heineken thing on the boat.

Folks didn't like Craig's face in 2006. He's doing fine.

Precisely. Which is why it was a good idea that he bulked up for the role. One has to be credible, either in terms of looks or in terms of physique (both would be nice but are not essential).

DC is 49 + years old ,is rich, has a nice wife ,why would he do another bond movie ?

His body and mind are probably not up to making a physically and mentally demanding bond film. It's not his cup of tea anymore.

Do people expect him to make the next Bond movie when he's 51-52 years old.

He's no Tom Cruise who at 55 is a freak.........

Dear old Sir Rog managed it successfully for the majority of his Bond stint.

46 in Live And Let Die
47 in The Man With The Golden Gun
50 in The Spy Who Loved Me
    52 in Moonraker
54 in For Your Eyes Only
    56 in Octopussy
    58 in A View To A Kill

Not saying Craig should continue as Bond till he's almost 60, but he still more than capable of playing the role. He looks after himself, and is in good shape.
I'd say he has (if he wanted to) two more Bond films in him. Time will tell I guess.

Sir Rog was a freak like Tom Cruise. He was a easy going dude as everyone knows who could handle the bond films long production.

He also had the genius Richard Maibaum who could write a Bond screenplay unlike Purvis and Wade.

He also had a great director in John Glen who never made a bad Bond film.

Although a tad bit older, his features haven't changed that much. Unlike, say Sean between even FRWL and TB.

As Rog was born in October, you can take a year off each of those ages ie to get the age he was when filming.
eg he would have been 57 when shooting AVTAK
    It was a summer release.
All of Rogs films were summer releases but for TMWTGG which was released, winter '74, only a year and a half after LALD
