I think most Bond films have lines here and there that are a bit 'off', sometimes nevertheless saved by a good delivery. If you're referring to some of Blofeld's lines, well, I might not disagree with you. But then most times when a film tries to raise symbolism or metaphors, it comes off as a failed attempt at artistic self-indulgence IMO. All that stuff about the meteor and how James ruined Blofie's youth and whatnot, didn't sit well with me. The lines and the delivery both.

Thats actually true. A lot of it may be delivery from the actors which is weird because they acted fine in skyfall. For example, the scene near the beginjng where M chews out bond then C comes in. I just cant buy anything they say at all. " you had no authority none" he sounds like a robot reading a script off camera.

//Didn't Babs allegedly write him off last year as being wimpy or something//

That was via Page Six, the New York Post gossip operation.

    http://pagesix.com/2017/04/03/daniel-craig-ready-for-more-007-after-slash-my-wrist-diss/

    First paragraph:
After saying he’d rather “slash my wrists” than do a final Bond movie, sources say Daniel Craig is ready to sign on to return as 007 after Bond bosses decided Tom Hiddleston is “too smug and not tough enough” for the role.
Thanks. I knew I read it somewhere. There was also a comment by Forsythe last year that she wasn't impressed (apparently he had spoken with her). Hiddleston has said he he hasn't been asked, but who knows.

Great example and I felt the same way about that entire scene. Just completely off in terms of delivery, particularly from Craig and Fiennes. Scott was a grease bag, but then that was the character.

    C: "It's the future, and... you're not."
    M: "You're a cocky little bastard, aren't you?"
    C: "I'll take that as a complement."
    M: "I wouldn't. This isn't over yet."

@dominicgreene, don't forget MP lunging at C, like a middle school bully. Awful.

Haha. I loved his reaction too. Scott's best acting in the film.

EDIT: The real corker was "It's the future" *long uncomfortable pause* "And you're not"

What I fail to understand is how could production on Purity be delayed until 2019 if B25 itself isn't starting principle photography until late 2018? Has production on ths series been at a complete standstill?

We're just assuming principal photography on B25 is starting late 2018 because of SF and SP production schedules. When comparing to production schedules for other big blockbusters, that's an incredibly tight turnaround.

What this Purity news also hints is that maybe principal photography on B25 could start earlier, say sometime early or mid 2018.

And yes, seems like it was on a standstill because of uncertainty over when Bond 25 would be happening.

Actually, I think that's advisable. Starting principal photography during spring/summer 2018. I mean, the production schedules of the last Bond films have become really old-fashioned no? Marvel usually takes way more time for principal photography. I think it could be also beneficial to the quality of the final product.

Yeah they make us wait four years might as well take time on doing shooting

I think Craig gets more love then he desrves. Like hes pretty good but its not like the bond franchise cant do with out him. If it was up to Cubby and saltzman I feel like they would have fired him after his slash my wrists comment and his lack of enthusiasm for the franchise coupled with his inability to sign on to a film. Rather then what wilson and barbara are doing which is wait 4 years and beg him to return because . Oh hes soooo good best bond in years.. mmmmmm
I just think Craig should have a little more respect for the franchise. You would never see brosnan or moore say anything like that. ( but maybe connery??)

    Agree here

I really can't say I was a huge fan of Scott's C portrayal, for me the best *long uncomfortable pause* exchange was "Now we now what C stands for" (long uncomfortable pause - we were all thinking it)... "Careless" (ah, okay). Also a nice nod to Craig's opening scene with Dryden in Casino Royale.

Hopefully they'll get another writer in to polish up the P+W dialogue.

Should've just went with new writers from the get-go instead of having to hire another person to fix their work.

There is only one man who can keep a leash on those two idiots and his name is Haggis. Or was CR a fluke?

Phil Nobile Jr. writes about Bond for Birth. Movies. Death. His latest:

    http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/08/09/bond-talk-after-dark-lawsuits-tabloids-and-clowns

Tidbit from one of his items. Totally presented here for entertainment value only.

//On the completely unverfiable, I am not saying this is true, you-didn't-get-it-from-me front: that source I mentioned a while back, who I believe is part of the Bond production machine, is out there saying Daniel Craig was partially lured back for Bond 25 by the prospect of an actor initialed "TH" (apparently not the one we all had heard) replacing him. This other fella initialed TH was apparently ready to go, and the idea of being replaced by this gentleman was enough to spur Craig to action. Anyone buy that? This source is also saying Craig has agreed to back-to-back Bond films, when he'd previously mentioned hearing that Eon was going to sell off the franchise after Bond 25, so who knows which way is up at this point. I will say I'd believe this guy more than any tabloid. Sooo...anyone got any weird on-set gossip from Layer Cake...? ///

Of course, we heard about two THs: Toms Hiddleston and Hardy. Not sure if this is a third TH he's talking about.

Must be Tom Hardy he's talking about, as they were in Layer Cake together?

Anyways, doesn't mean it's true or false.

I'm not a fan of Haggis' work outside of CR and Million Dollar Baby. I find his films heavy handed and overwrought.

What's odd is that Butterworth is a playwright, and *still* the dialogue is clunky.

Oh, for the days of Simon Raven!

Those Scott and Fiennes scenes are bloody awful. Fiennes' "not to kill" speech (delivered with gritted teeth as if he was trying to let one out) is shockingly bad. One wonders how much better it could have been without Scott in the film at all. I know many laud Fiennes for refusing to be the traitor (as per the early script draft), but I'm not so sure because all these silly 'C' scenes would then have been avoided.

@bondjames, watch SP but forward through all of the C scenes. I've done it. It is an improvement (no matter how small).

C was terribly written and terribly played.

That's an idea @peter. Nothing's really lost by avoiding his scenes. Might try it next time. Thanks.

Yes, I've said before that you could basically cut the entire 9-eyes subplot out of the film and you'd have something tighter but undiminished.

Yes, and smart filmmakers would have cut the 9-eyes subplot in the writing if not the editing and given that time to Bond and Swann (and Mr. White) and develop that story line more, giving them more to do.
Exactly. The film had huge talent on both sides of the camera, gorgeous locations, and plenty of money - why not sit back and let things breathe a bit? With the amount of time that would be freed up by cutting 9-eyes, you could both tighten the story and give more room for things to develop.

100% agree. I'd rather have M be the traitor (at least that would be a cool twist) than Scott at all.

Daniel Craig will be a guest on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' on Tuesday, 15 August, 2017 at 11:35/10:35c on CBS.
  • Thankully the internet wasn't around when Sean made his 'I'd like to kill that damned James Bond' comment during the filming of TB or the 'best Bond ever' would have been lynched on Twitter.
He even said on French television they should not release a Bond movie every year while still being Bond !

How is he going to avoid the question now? 5 days to confirmation most likely.

Showtime is a subsidiary of CBS. Was that comment about 'Purity' at the TCA's, not so accidental after all?

Hmm. The plot thickens. I look forward to seeing if DC will discuss Bond or obfuscate, given director and distributor have not yet been announced.

On one level I agree the writing was far from polished in SP. On another level I'd ask have you been watching the Bond films for the past 25 years? Because the writing has generally been abysmal ever since Maibaum stopped working on Bond.

So yes SP is not perfect. But also get over it.
