my current list of artists/bands that I would like to see do the Bond 23 - or another future Bond theme are as follows..
Shirley Bassey - the old gal has still got plenty of life left in those pipes, and i think it would be a shame, for the 50th Anniversary if they don't offer it to her..
Amy Lee - I always thought she had a beautiful and haunting voice - when she actually sings.. but when I heard the song "Good Enough", I felt that she has the right tone to execute a very classy Bond theme, almost in a Carly Simon type of way.. here is the song I am talking about..
Liam Gallagher - After I heard the Oasis song "The Masterplan", I really feel like he could make a great Bond theme - hell, the song almost sounds Bond like on it's own..
Muse - seems to be every casual fan's "most logical choice", as they are extremely popular now.. But I have been saying their name since before they really struck it big (at least here in the states).. and I think this song demonstrates that they have Bond potential - even if sounds like they jacked part of it from Temple Of Doom ;)
---------------
now, for my way out in left field choices - artists/bands I would like to see, but would probably never stand the chance of doing a Bond theme..
Slash - either him with another artist, or even solo - it would be cool to see him shred out a Bond Instrumental - it would be an interesting change of pace - and not since OHMSS was just an instrumental used for the title theme..
Ozzy Osbourne - yes yes, i know - never a chance in hell... but i love his vocals from the song Dreamer, and I can only imagine what they would sound like with Arnold's full Bond orchestra behind them...... but, i can just file this under Pipe Dream :(
David Bowie - i just really love David Bowie, and I would really like to see what he could do with a Bond theme.... but, the band Pulp had a rejected theme for Tomorrow Never Dies - which almost sounds Bowie like - so I guess I'll just have to live with that lol..
Paul Potts should sing a song written by David Arnold and Don Black.
Sorry @haserot. I really can't stand her voice and copied look. The whole band to me is nothing more than Nightwish wannabes. I do live the original Nightwish and really would love for the now departed Tarja Turunen to perform the main theme. Turunen is a trained Opera singer that puts Lee's voice to shame
Nightwish (with Tarja Turunen)
Wishmaster
Gethsemane
Sleeping Sun
Thumbs up for David Bowie, as well. I'd love bands like U2, , Iron Maiden to have the theme, but all of this is very unlikely, and we'll surely end up with some pop act of the moment.
Personally Shirley Bassey would be my favorite choice.
Here's my choice:
I had forgotten about Seal..
wasn't he at one point tied to Casino Royale? - not for the title theme, but to play a character? because isn't that where the name Solange originated from? - it was to be his character, but then they rewrote the role, and changed it to a woman?
i could be mistaken - but I am for certain he was tied to Casino Royale (even if it was only a brief rumor)
I hadn't heard of her until I saw ads for her album 21. I think she's one of those few arists who could legitimately make a song in the vein of Shirley Bassey without clearly sounding like they are trying to sound like Bassey.
Anyway, my choice would be the best british band around at present...Kasabian.
Undertow:
Krimson:
I would also like to throw Portishead (or a Beth Gibbons solo effort) and Neil Hannon from the The Divine Comedy into the ring. I also believe that The Duke Spirit could deliver a really good Bond Theme song.
@Luds: Haha, point taken.
The more I think of it, Shirley Bassey probably wouldn't be appropriate at this point. It wouldn't be the same without having that John Barry pairing. Let her 4 amazing contributions to the series shine.
I wouldn't mind someone who's only had one go to come back, such as Tom Jones.
I HAVE SPOKEN!! B-)
Got to be Prince - anyway here's the dude playing a guitar solo - check out the band with him. If you don't like him don't worry it's a great musical performance by all involved.
Enjoy.
Its the 50th anniversary and why not, as a tribute to that and to the late John Barry, have David Arnold use the classic 007 instrumental over the opening credits.
.... for what she would would bring visually, with a video. I say her, more for the visual sizzle, than for anything else. Some of her songs have great production value musically, taker "Poker Face" for example.
I'm not a Gaga freak, bty, I have not even been to one of her concerts, not have I purchased any of her albums. But, in this business of making money for the Bond franchise, I think Gaga would be a smart move.
