I think it´s a top ten film also without those cuts, although they would have helped. I love the locations and the action, and it has one of the more interesting plots in the series. And for me it is Sir Rog´s best performance as Bond. I guess that qualifies as a controversial opinion.

Agree with everything here. I will go as far to say that I like the score as well. It's dated and cheesy in certain places, but I like a bit of funky Bond music.

Here's something controversial. With the exception of watching a little bit of YOLT the other night, I pretty much stopped watching Bond films. Nothing against them, I love the films but for some reason, I just haven't gotten much excitement from them or the thought of watching them.

I admit that I only watched a couple of Bond films during the entire 2017. Though just tonight I wondered if I shouldn't watch YOLT in honour of the late Karin Dor. But then, it may turn out to be TOPAZ instead.

I’d like to know, what do all of you think is the single best craig hand to hand fight sequence.
I’d probably go with the bathroom fight from CR

What a great intro to Craig's Bond that was! Now THAT was my idea of James Bond!

I like all of Craig's fights but I think the stairwell fight just about wins for me.

Happens to the best of us. I've only seen TLD in the past six months or so I'd say, and I still don't feel I'm teetering on the edge of firing up another Bondathon anytime soon, I'm afraid.

Between QoS and SF I barely watched a Bond film.

Every once in a while this will happen to me. But you can't always be in the mood for something, after all. I always inevitably get in the mood for Bond again after not being in the mood. Sometime next year I will do my backwards Bondathon, then a traditional one in 2019 leading up to Bond 25.

One also has to preserve the freshness of a product. If I watch them all the time, I would lose interest. As a child I used to watch them a lot but now I prefer to watch my favourite entries once in a few years.

Besides if I watch Bond films all the time, when will I watch another film?

I've watched my share this year, but only when I've been in the mood for a specific film. Now, had a release date of 2018 been announced, I'd be far more excited and gearing up with multiple Bondathons. If production had started last year on B25 and it were bring released this week, I'd most likely be having a Craigathon.

@ToTheRight, I'm expecting to get back into that mood later in 2018, particularly when filming will begin for B25. Until then, it'll be a lengthy hiatus for me, I fear.

This reminds me a bit of the period between '89 and '95 when although it was still planned for Tim to return, we were resigned to the fact it wasn't going to happen anytime soon.
So I ended up watching more classic films: Bogarts, Cagneys, old horror films, Hammer horrors, and I would occasionally pop in a Bond now and then.

Have watched only selected Bond films this year. The usual summer viewing of my favourite 'oldies' I never get tired of – but even that's only once a year. Planning on watching a few more around christmas, as I couldn't get around to do so at the same time last year.

If I'd watched the films more often, it just wouldn't be the same.

I've gone long spans of time without watching Bond as well. It had likely been around 8 months since I last saw a Bond film until I did a double-feature recently with some friends. One of my friends had never seen a Bond movie, so we initiated him with two of the best; TND and MR (and you can consider that my "controversial opinion" for this thread today).

To weigh in on 3 recent subjects:

-FYEO is a greatest hits package that's never registered high with me. MR actually made me the hardcore fan I am today and this was such a counter reaction that it's like non-stop action to distract from the uninteresting characters and situations and a lot of stock scenes and characters such as the casino, the seduction of the countess, car chase, indestructible Red Grant clone. The villain reveal was one of the least surprising; Ferrara telling Bond how reliable he was multiple times wasn't a tip-off. I could go on, but I'll leave that to another thread.

-As far as Craig's best fight, I still like the scuffle with Slate in QoS. Brutal, in closed quarters and just reflective of the dirty nature of Bond's job and one of many reasons why the film is underrated.

-I also rarely watch full Bond films these days. I watched OP in tribute to Rog the day of his passing, TLD on the anniversary of when I first saw it in '87 and a few weeks later watched it on the big screen; last year I watched SP a couple of times when it came out on Blu; and in 2015, aside from SP in the cinema, I watched OHMSS during Christmas to prove it was a Christmas movie to family and TB on Xmas day as that's when my parents went to see it when it came out in '65.

I find myself more just watching certain scenes, as I did with TB just a few nights ago instead of a whole film and still enjoy the bonus features.

I agree, but only the full, uncut version. Otherwise it's Bond vs Hinx for the win.

My favorite is probably Bond vs. Hinx, but Bond vs. Obanno is a close second. Really I am a fan of all the Craig Bond hand-to-hand fights.

Bond vs. Obanno followed by Bond vs. Fisher (the toilet thrashing) for me as far as the Craig fights go. The former in particular has a Bondian feel, style and atmosphere despite being visceral.

Then Bond vs. Slate (I deduct a few marks for it being far too Bournesque, brutal though it certainly is).

Bond vs. Obanno is easily the winner for me. Love the machete, the bloodiness, how they make their way from one level to the next, Bond choking the life out of the guy, and how much it rattles both Bond and Vesper.

The only good fight to come out of the Glen Era didn't involve Bond. I don't get why people like that cargo net fight. The stunt is decent, but the fight itself is lame.

It's well-choreographed and -edited. Glen was a great director of action (and I think that's why he got to do five). Even something as goofy as the tuk-tuk chase in OP built up in suspense nicely.

Each single word of your mirrors my thinking!

All of Craigs fight scenes were great, apart from SFs shadowy scrap with Patrice!
The Obanno fight was terrific but i would have to give it to the Hinx one for sheer thrills!

I liked that fight, you couldn't even tell who was who during the fight originally,i thought it was cleverly done, but hey ho.

I love the Hinx fight, but I always laugh when thinking of Bonds thought process.

"Hmm maybe if I throw this bowl of green beans at him, it'll stop him."

I'd loved to see that scene - Bond throwing random at Hinx - go on even longer. Just imagine the late, the dear Leslie Nielsen spoofing that scene.

The lift fight in DAF is a distinctly so-so fight sequence. It feels overlong and not especially exciting.

    It's a very limp fight.

Yeah, I liked that scene immensely. Better than the first fight they had in the PTS, if I'm being honest.
