Beginnings
1. Casino Royale- it is Bond's first real mission!
2. Quantum of Solace- the sequal to CR, so it must follow!
SPECTRE
3. Dr. No
4. From Russia with Love- must follow DN because of all the references to it
5. Thunderball
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service- placing it here fixes the discontinuity with Bond and Blofeld's meeting
7. You Only Live Twice
8. Diamonds Are Forever- for the PTS, Bond stayed around in Japan after YOLT to track down Blofeld; makes DAF seem more fitting in this way, since the way we got it didn't really focus on the revenge element too much
Cold War relations
9. For Your Eyes Only- for the PTS, Bond finishes off Blofeld for good
10. The Spy Who Loved Me- Karl Stromberg heard of the recent ATAC incident between Britain and Russia, and decided to put his submarine theft plan into effect following this, since tensions between the UK and USSR would still be high

Only differance is; THESE ARE THE ACTUAL MOVIES? WAS CONNERY IN MOONRAKER? NO!
Now then,
I've always wondered what the films had been like, if it followed Bond's age;

No wonder Blofeld doesn’t recognize Bond in OHMSS. And by the time YOLT comes around, Blofeld has forgotten about poor 007. Bond has not, however. Fast forward to DAF, and Bond feels sorry for Blofeld. He's getting rather fond of him, at this point.
Obviously there's the OHMSS/You Only Live Twice Blofeld mistake, but switch the films around and it's fine.
In Dr No Felix Lighter introduces himself to Bond, so the introduction between them in Casino Royale shouldn't exist.
In Casino Royale, Judi Dench says 'Christ, I miss the Cold War', which obviously throws everything off.
In Skyfall, Moneypenny and Bond meet for the first time - Moneypenny's already in Dr No. Also Moneypenny says in Dr No "I've never been to Istanbul".
In Skyfall, Bond is given a Walther PPK, but at the beginning of Dr No M states that Bond's weapon of choice is a Beretta. It's only then he's given the Walther.
In Skyfall, the DB5 turns up in Bond's garage, but in Goldfinger Bond says to Q 'What about my Bentley? It's never let me down' and it's only then he's given the DB5.
In Skyfall, Bond and Q meet for the first time, but they meet for the first time in Dr No.
So there is clear evidence that Skyfall takes place before Dr No but also clear evidence that it takes place after Goldeneye (the last time we see the DB5).
Just goes to show that they couldn't care less about staying true to the timeline and anything Barbara Broccoli says to the contrary is a load of rubbish. You'd have thought she'd like to pay a bit more respect to her father's fine work.
The continuity with Judi Dench playing M with him pre-00 status I couldn't care less about. All it is is an actor. The character existed back then and existed now.
That is Your Dream Bond Timeline, not a chronological timeline of real movies, @Baltimore_007.
1. Dr No (1962)
2. From Russia With Love (1963)
3. Goldfinger (1964)
4. Thunderball (1965)
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) - Between the main actions and Bond's wedding, some month pass and Bond Jr. gets born, wich is later given to Bond's brother because Bond can't care about him alone while being 007
6. You Only Live Twice (1967)
7. Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
8. Live and Let Die (1973)
9. The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)
10. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
11. Moonraker (1979)
12. For Your Eyes Only (1981)
13. Octopussy (1983)
14. A View To A Kill (1985)
14 1/2. GoldenEye opening
15. The Living Daylights (1987)
16. Licence to Kill (1989)
17. GoldenEye (1995)
18. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
19. The World is not Enough (1999)
James Bond Jr. Era
The old Bond retires in 2005 after 45 years of active serving as 007 and his son, James Bond Jr. (portrayed by Craig) earns double-O status and takes the now empty position of 007
2. Casino Royale (2006)
3. Quantum of Solace (2008)
7. Skyfall (2012)
Bond's weird dream world Era
4 1/2. Never Say Never Again (1983) - Bond dreams of his last mission but messes up some things he can't remember correctly
19 1/4. Casino Royale Climax! (1954) - After his last mission, Bond stars to get some weird dreams of some casino
19 1/2. Casino Royale (1967) - Bond has another weird dream of the casino
19 3/4. Die Another Day (2002) - After having this dream, Bond thinks he definitly doesn't fit into this job anymore and retires in 2005
1930's
The original James Bond (David Niven) is active. I see Casino Royale as a kind of weird dream foreshadowing certain events. He falls in love and has a child named Andrew Bond.
Before 1953
It is now common practice for agents to take on false names, Sean Connery's character becomes James Bond 007 (he's been working for MI6 for at least 10 years as stated in Dr No).
1960's
Dr No
Major Boothroyd takes over as armourer/quartermaster.
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Blofeld experiments with plastic surgery.
Several MI6 agents are trained at once to see who the best candidate is for James Bond 007, Lazenby and Moore are completing there training at this point. Lazenby is selected.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Due to grief Lazenby resigns. Connery who has remained in Asia for the last 4 years is sent to find Blofeld again.
1970's
Diamonds Are Forever
I like to think that Connery's Bond got into to trouble in a certain Watergate Hotel in 1972 and was no longer suitable for being James Bond. Moore takes up the mantle.
Live And Let Die
The Man With The Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker
1980's
On the 12th anniversary of Tracy Bond's death, Moore visits the grave to pay his respects to his colleague's wife.
For Your Eyes Only
Admiral Hargreaves replaces Sir Miles Messervy as 'M'.
Octopussy
A View To A Kill
By this point Dalton's and Brosnan's characters are in the training to be 007. I like to believe that Moore's Bond was put out of action after suffering injuries in Chernobyl, 1986.
By now Brosnan has been chosen to be Bond.
It is also now when a new 'Miss Moneypenny' (also a codename) is introduced.
Goldeneye (Pre-title sequence)
Brosnan is not considered ready as he let 006 die on a mission. Dalton is brought in to replace him. He is sent to Gibraltar for a final training excercise.
The Living Daylights
Licence To Kill
1990's
Over the next few years a new Moneypenny is employed, Brosnan finally takes over again and Olivia Mansfield replaces Admiral Hargreaves becoming the first female M.
Goldeneye
Tomorrow Never Dies
Upon planning for his retirement, Q takes on an understudy known as R.
The World Is Not Enough
Major Boothroyd retires and R becomes Q.
2000's
Die Another Day (this takes place either completely before or after 911)
Nightfire
Everything Or Nothing
Brosnan's Bond retires and the idea of 'Moneypenny' and 'Q' are scrapped although Q-Branch remains. Craig's Bond's name is actually James Bond. He is the grandson of the original and son of Andrew Bond. He takes over from Brosnan.
Casino Royale (2006-2007)
Quantum Of Solace (2007-2008)
2010's
Blood Stone
The idea of Q and Moneypenny is re-introduced, both with new replacements.
Skyfall
Olivia Mansfield dies and Gareth Mallory becomes the new M.
I think that's all the major points. If anyone can see any faults in this i'd be happy to attempt to reconcile them. I understand that the codename theory isn't very popular at all but I think it could work. I also believe that 'Bill Tanner' and 'Felix Leiter' are codenames along with 'Eve Moneypenny', 'M' & 'Q'. I also have a theory on a certain 'Ralph Silver'.
one could argue that they're completely different characters coincidentally both played by Dame Judi however as there's no onscreen evidence that she plays Mawdsley in Goldeneye i'm going to assume that she plays the same character from then until Skyfall, Olivia Mansfield.
CR
QOS
Dr No - DAD
Skyfall.
Yes
DN to AVTAK is the original timeline, except DAF goes before OHMSS and FYEO goes before LALD. I say this because you can more or less believe that it's the same guy, he ages as time goes on.
Then there's a separate timeline, TLD to DAD, which I like to think goes like this.
Bond starts his career and eventually OHMSS happens. Then a few years later we have the Goldeneye PTS. Some officials are angry about the "death" of 006 so they order M to send the 00's on a training mission to Gilbatar, this is the beginning of The Living Daylights. Not long after that there's Licence To Kill. After LTK Bond starts drinking more and is struggling at work. M gives him one last chance, sends him to Japan, he meets Tiger, Blofeld is alive, etc. So that's YOLT. While in Russia, Bond finds his identity and he also meets Zukofsky and gives him a limp. Then he's captured, brainwashed, etc. TMWTGG begins, followed by Colonel Sun. After this the cold war ends and there are are a few more adventures, one of them involving Paris Carver. But after the assassination attempt and being kidnapped, Robert Brown's M has been feeling more and more stressed. In 1995 he retires and Judi Dench takes over. She looks over what's happened over the last few years and is shocked that Bond was even allowed his job back after LTK, so she has him evaluated. Goldeneye continues.
The third timeline is the Craig era so far.
I like the separate timeline idea.

That is the timeline for the books, not the films
That is very neat! @thelivingroyale
I'd like to think that in these timelines, the Bonds experiences the books too (although in a slightly updated version depending on which actor it is) but that - as you say it is three timelines!
Is there a timeline for books and movies? I read
casino royale (the first book) then watched casino royale(the movie) then read
quantum of solace (the short story) then watch quantum of solace the movie, where do I go
next? What is the next story either book or movie???
Great question. I believe the next should be live and let die?
I think this timiline makes more sense
