    Is Blofeld the main villain?

    No.

I’m really looking forward to reading this but find it odd that it isn’t in any of my local comic book stores or available on Amazon yet. Where is everyone reading this?

Where are you located? If your LCS is supplied by Diamond Distribution then they should have gotten their copies by now. If you reside somewhere outside the USA then I suspect your copies are on the way... and as for Amazon, I'm sorry but I have no idea what's up there. I believe in supporting my local retailers. I never say never (Sir Sean taught me that!) but I RARELY buy anything via Amazon...

Read it yesterday through comixology digital (which is an amazon company).
I liked the structure. I liked some of the stories and don't think I actively disliked any. I think I have to read it 1 or 2 more times to really get the overarching plot, because I was sometimes slightly confused on which panel belonged to which level of the plot.
But overall I would say I enjoyed it.
    7/10.
I still can't make my mind up whether I like John Lee or not...

Edit: Just had another quick look. What is it with Dynamite Editing not being able to spell French regions? It's Bordeaux not Bourdeaux and Burgundy not Burgandy.
Now, there is a village in France called Bourdeaux, close to the Rhône Valley. But it is not a wine producing village, let alone an appelation for wine, meaning there is no such thing as a "Left bank Bourdeaux".
Strangely enough, Bond uses the word "Burgandy" to describe a color that in my native German is called Bordeaux.

Edit2: Also, there is no such thing as a 5-Star Michelin rating. They go up to 3.

I'm french too and there is also another error inside. But it's usual : every Bond comics there is always at least one error in french spelling dialogues...

For those others who have read it, I thought it would be a fun challenge to try to rearrange the different vignettes of REFLECTIONS IN DEATH into a linear narrative.

The modern re-imagining of Odd Job is so weird to me.

I have Reflections in Death but I haven't made it all the way through yet. Not a huge fan, I'd agree with an above comment that I'm not sure the format works really well for Bond. The more longform stories work better, IMO.

I just don't really understand why the Odd Job connection is there. From what I remember of the longer arc he is introduced in, the connection is that both have a weaponized bowler hat and are Korean?
Given the darker and more mature direction they have taken Leiter in (which I like) I'm not against having another more gregarious spy character in the mix. Although they sometimes sail a little close to making it the John Lee comic with his sidekick James Bond...
  • I finished the Oddjob arc yesterday, and I have to say I was so disappointed. I think if it featured original characters I would be a lot more forgiving, however they try and bring Oddjob and Goldfinger back and they are nothing like their characters. It’s not clever, despite what it thinks, and Bond is just non existent in this whole series. Everyone is out of character and I actively despise John Lee. This is right at the bottom of my ranking right alongside the Body. As a comic it’s fine, and a Bond comic it is not.

So is the Dynamite JB comic series done or do they have more releases planned?
  • I believe more will be coming. Lots of publishers suspended production early in the COVID-19 shut-down...it's just taking awhile to get the engine back up to speed.

    Okay, thanks, @BeatlesSansEarmuffs.

Here's the thing. Some publishers were pretty fast to get their output back on track. AWA Studios, a brand new publisher whose output I can recommend very highly by the way, even started during the pandemic. DC, Marvel, Image, IDW, ... all seem to be doing fine right now. It's just that Dynamite is doing so little with its Bond titles. Hence my worries. ;-)

Another case of (far left) liberals eating their own, not that surprising really.

Here is an article, if you wanna know more you can check the backlinks as well:
    https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dynamite-pulls-panels-from-san-diego-comic-conhome/

    Writer/artist Rahsan Ekedal tweeted;
"So I reached out to my editor at Dynamite about this CG situation and said that I can't be associated with a company that allies itself with a hate group. I just want my followers and other creators to understand that i condemn CG and am furious with the company. I was two issues in on a James Bond miniseries with them but it has been on indefinite hold since March and I haven't done any further work on it since I finished colors during the lockdown."
I'm not sure to understand: in one hand Dynamite facing accusation of "hate" anti- progressivism, but in the other hand isn't the writter of the current Dynamite Bond comics serie include Vita Ayala who is a woman, black, who define herself like "no binary" and have LGBT flags on her Twitter ? (How you can be more progressive than that?!). The first and the second hand are contradictory!

Beside I think the Rahsan Ekedal comics was to be called "James Bond: 1942" :

    Anyway don't F-dare cancel/report Big Things #6 again...

    It doesn't mean anything.
Nick Barrucci, Dynamite's CEO had an association and friendship with a top guy at GC, and was giving some of their artists some jobs and opportunities (from what i understand, small stuff like covers etc, nothing major)

He never aligned with their cause though (whatever that may be) and was steering Dynamite in the totally opposite direction anyway.

I expect him to resign in a couple days and then it's back to normal.

I thought that Dynamite Comics had gotten in trouble for a number of things, hence the non-Bond related comics.

Where, oh where, are my James Bond comics? Do you think the absence of new Bond comics is due to COVID or does this gate polemic has to do with the fact that no new Bond comics has been announced?

They seemed to be coming to an end of a cycle with Reflections of Death. So they may have slowed down with preperations which was then made worse by Covid.

The Comicsgate thing seems to very clearly have broken up one specific project in the Origins series. If I recall correctly, the incident that blew up was that the creator who was about to be announced for that title, Rahsan Ekedal, very publicly pulled out. So that specific run is not going to happen.

How far other creators now no longer want to work with Dynamite is unclear. Some who had previous runs on the line where very critical publicly (Moustafa, Lorde, Ayala of the top of my head), but I don't think there were any real announcements. But it's probably not easy for Dynamite to find creators at the moment.

Looking forward to Moonraker and the Blofeld trilogy.

Has there been any announcement about the continuation of this line of graphic novels by the way? I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Van Jensen said he wouldn't go beyond LALD and that he won't continue the series. I hope to see an adaptation of the Moonraker novel but given the lack of news from Dynamite, I don't have much hope...

Written by Bond-newcomer Christos Gage with art by Luca Casalanguida (who drew James Bond: The Body and James Bond: Kill Chain), the story sees "Bond recruited into the terrorist organization by Ernst Stavro Blofeld to end an internal power struggle that could have apocalyptic consequences."

The first issue of 'James Bond: Agent of SPECTRE' will be released in March 2021.

This is a good news, nice to see it's not over
  • That's actually a pretty promising premise, much more than that of previous Dynamite titles, of course reminiscing that of Gardner's Role of Honour. The mention of Blofeld seeking "to end an internal power struggle" also reminds of Maibaum's TSWLM script centered around a new villain, Klement Kronk, who would have tried to take control of SPECTRE from Blofeld. I wonder if any of these previous works will inspire this new series.

This is an amazing premise! I wonder if this will build into a Tracy arc or, even more intriguing, has the Tracy history built into the tension. Doing a deep dive here, but this reminds me of the Daily Express Bond arc "the Golden Ghost," where Blofeld's death creates a power vacuum in SPECTRE. If I remember correctly, one faction of SPECTRE contacts MI6 to help them take down an agent vying for control.
This is incredibly exciting! Glad to see we might be returning to new gritty arc akin to Kill Chain

Okay, so: my apologies, I haven't been keeping up with this forum as much as I might. Life gets in the way, you know how it is...

But: @MaxCasino's comment from a month or so back cries out for a response. Here's mine: Dynamite Comics has been publishing comic books for many, many years now. They've published books featuring characters as diverse as the Lone Ranger, the Green Hornet, Vampirella, and Red Sonja. The non-Bond related comics have been their staples for a long, long time now. Whatever troubles they may or may not be having, 007 comics are a small fraction of their output. Please keep that in mind when forming and stating your opinions.

"Agent of Spectre" sounds like the best concept Dynamite has announced for 007 in quite awhile. I look forward to seeing it... in July or August or sometime in late 2021. (As I've suggested before, keep their track record for timely releases in mind when forming your expectations...)

  • This sounds absurd. I love the first couple of series, however The Body and Oddjob were not good at all. I hope this series picks up the slack but it feels like Dynamite have run out of ideas.

There was a lot of potential from where things were going after Kill Chain and the Felix Leiter one. I wish the latter was given another volume or two because it was a great spinoff. I lost interest after the Body and only reading a few issues of Oddjob. Origins wasn't bad, but I haven't gone back to finish that either.

Does Bond look a bit... fat? :)
He’s shrunken quite a bit too! Judging by the size of his gun.

It's quite a big one to swallow, you'd think there would have to be an awful lot of shifting things around for that to happen.
I thought it was Russian Superman-style alternative history thing for a second.
