There are always TWO version of the hardcover book released, the second is a limited special edition, limited to 1007, at least for the German market it's limited, not sure about other language territories.

    That's why I always immediately pre-order them.
Yeah i noticed that there were always 2 (in germany) but i always thought the only difference was the front cover. Nowhere did it say 40 PAGES BONUS CONTENT.

But it really looks like those are only available in German. In that case i will have to skip them as much as it pains me.

It doesn't really make sense for them to be exclusive to Germany though, right? I mean, you'd assume that the larger market is English-speaking focused and those are the kinds of people who would receive the brunt of the product.

No it doesn't really make sense. Only reason i could think of is, they are holding back that stuff for another occasion, as they know Brits will buy it anyway.

I noticed that the VARGR paperback release is listed on dynamite.com with 10 pages more than the Hardcover. But maybe that was just a typo. Could be they include some bonus content to make people buy again.

Now i sadly realize the Special/limited/unrated market for comics is just as messed up as any other today

The discrepancy between the paperback and hardback could also just be a formatting issue, where the re-print in paperback ended up with more pages than the hardback, but where those pages aren't related to any special features. Who knows.

But yeah, these markets are ragged and that's why I don't find myself supporting them most of the time. Just like film releases, "special" editions are withheld to capitalize on profits after you tricked someone into getting another edition of said film/s in the past. Waiting for releases after the fact (and after the wallet robbing) is never a bad idea, and that's why I follow it on principle. There's more reasons than that for why I've held out on Dynamite, like the comparisons to Brosnan's Bond in the comics that don't exactly make me want to jump and order them, but how the comics are distributed and priced are a big stickler.

The first time I'll be supporting Dynamite will be with the Fleming adaptations, because I've seen how much the writer has a handle on who Bond actually is, and the one-shot nature of them is very appealing because I get all the story in one. I may even get the hardcover, as I want to see the series continued for all the original books.

Just to point out, the one shot comics are still part of the mainstream ongoing James Bond comic series.

Then comes the spinoff category (Leiter, Penny) and then the adaptation(s), of which we have one.
  • Do we know if the release of Casino Royale in a couple months will have hardback and paperback options, or just the former? Those adaptations interest me far more than the ongoing series of original stuff, simply because takes on Fleming are intriguing and I'm going through the books now.

I would expect that there will be a paperback version made available after the hardcover version has maximized sales for the higher-dollar version. Then the paperback version will be made available at roughly half the price. No, Dynamite hasn't made any announcement yet...but this is a reasonable assumption based on The Way The Market Works.

DYNAMITE creates the better Bond era than EON. They know what Bond is about.

Just finished reading Moneypenny out of insomnia.

Well, it was alright. Nothing mindblowing, still better than some others that came before.

What bothered me deeply though was Moneypenny's unrealistically thought outfit that's more or less a maternity dress in which she has to run, jump, leap, kick all in the heat of the moment. I know I'm nitpicking but... come on. Surprised Bond didn't pop out of nowhere and told her "I'm not mad about your tailor, are you?". :))

Overall, enjoyable. Loved Bond's cameo in it that resembled Sean Connery from the Swiss segment of Goldfinger. Serviceable for a one-shot.

    What about you, @00Agent?

Can someone in here do something for me? Post a full listing of the full, finalized comic books once they are released in 150 to 200 pages hardbacks? I really don't want to buy every part of just one story. I want to buy the full page hardbacks.

    So a listing like this?

JAMES BOND 007 - ORIGINAL DYNAMITE SERIES (Large Hardbacks):
--> 01. "Vargr" (176 pgs.) - Story by: Warren Ellis, Drawings by: Jason Masters & Dom Reardon
--> 02. "Eidolon" (152 pgs.) - Story by: Warren Ellis, Drawings by: Jason Masters & Dom Reardon
--> 03. "Hammerhead" (120 pgs.) - Story by: Andy Diggle, Drawings by: Luca Casalanguida
--> 05. "Kill Chain" (144 pgs.) - Story by: Andy Diggle, Drawings by: Luca Casalanguida **December 2017**
--> 04. "Black Box" (160 pgs.) - Story by: Benjamin Percy, Drawings by: Rapha Lobosco

JAMES BOND 007 - ADAPTATIONS IAN FLEMING SERIES (Large Hardbacks):
--> 01. "Casino Royale" (160 pgs.) - Story by: Ian Fleming & Van Jensen, Drawings by: Dennis Calero **October 2017**
--> 02. "Live And Let Die" (178 pgs.) - Story by: Ian Fleming & Van Jensen, Drawings by: Dennis Calero **2018**

JAMES BOND 007 - FELIX LEITER SERIES (Large Hardbacks):
--> 01. "Felix Leiter, Vol.1" (152 pgs.) - Story by: James Robinson, Drawings by: Aaron Campbell **October 2017**

JAMES BOND 007 - ORIGINAL DYNAMITE SERIES (Small One-Offs, Hardbacks):
--> 01. "Service" (48 pgs.) - Story by: Kieron Gillen, Drawings by: Antonio Fuso
--> 02. "Solstice" (40 pgs.) - Story by: Ibrahim Moustafa, Drawings by: Ibrahim Moustafa **November 2017**

JAMES BOND 007 - MONEYPENNY SERIES (Small One-Offs, Hardbacks):
--> 01. "Moneypenny, Vol.1" (40 pgs.) - Story by: Jody Houser, Drawings by: Jacob Edwards

Ooowh wait, I just did it myself hehe :-P

To me the Ian Fleming adaptations will be the real future collectibles. As Dynamite has confirmed, starting with "Casino Royale", Dynamite will release two comic book adaptations every year, so that means that "Live And Let Die" will appear March/April. I will make sure that I will have this collection complete!

Yes, i agree pretty much. Had one or two more nitpicks.
I did not expect much of this one shot, and it did not deliver much either, so it's all fine i guess lol.
My feeling is Solstice is already the best oneshot of them all :D

Just a correction up there, the spin-offs don't come in volumes. They're just entries like any other. Both Leiter and Penny are part of the same umbrella rather than separated categories. I wouldn't expect a Moneypenny sequel.

Regarding official volumes, there's only James Bond (Volume 1: VARGR and Volume 2: Eidolon) and then, there's James Bond Vol. 2 (which is Black Box). The rest don't have any volume labels.

Indeed. As I said, there's not much to do with Moneypenny so this is all we'll get from her as the protagonist.

    Lets hope so.
The problem is that Moneypenny and M are not interesting on their own.
In the Movies and even the books they only exist when Bond is in the room with them. They are purely there to serve him. You don't really care about their motivations or what they do when Bond is not around.
Felix works a bit better because at least he has the same job as Bond and works in the same space (same for Tanaka) but forcing Moneypenny in an Field agent role is not the way to go imo.
Having a story with Pussy would be much more interesting, she could basically be Bonds Catwoman (the puns would write themselves lol). Doing her own thing, and being trully independent.

I love this guy! Already my second favorite Dynamite-published Bond comic artist right after Casalanguida. I love how sharp and manly Bond looks!

And did he just give him a damn Aston Martin DB4 Zagato?! :D

Also... the classic era M office is back! :D

very cool and indepth interview with Moustafa about Solstice:
    http://www.oregonlive.com/books/index.ssf/2017/09/an_artists_00-dream_portlands.html
Its a joy to hear him talk about the comic, since he is such an all out Bond-nerd.
I wouldn't even be suprised if he's a member here.

Just to give you an example:
"To me, Bond needs to be sturdy, but more lithe than brawny. The cut of the suit is very important; it needs to have a deliberate, tailored look to it. Clothes don't just happen to Bond -- he's a very calculating man and his attire is no exception."

Not really, @JET007. It's alright. It's something that plays it too safe just trying to make a point that Moneypenny is capable of being powerful. That is all. Otherwise, there's not much story to it, if any at all.

yeah i agree. To me it's just unnecessary, especially with Solstice on the horizon. Also i am pretty sure the one shots will be all collected in a hardcover eventually, so you might as well wait till then

Precisely. You never know, next week (probably) the December 2017 Solicitations of Dynamite Comics will be revealed and they might as well announce that James Bond Origins/War Years: 1941-1945 they were referring to. It was supposed to be arriving somewhere around the fall of this year but they would've announced it by now. I'm guessing it'll either debut in December, or [more likely] in January.

We don't have any comics yet announced for January, and the only ongoing series is ending in December, so they might as well start Origins then.

That's what I think will happen.

Somehow I'm inclined to believe Solstice isn't just another entry. It's going to subvert the contemporary setting comics universe. Some political war will rise with that Russian high-value target Bond is pursuing off the books while doing a favour for M, which out of Official Secrets Act, is illegal to maintain. I think something is going to happen in that comic, which will pave the way in for a subversion.

    Or am I overthinking?

That would be really cool, and not completely improbable. They could tie in Felix Leiters story nicelly in there as well. I think Kill Chain could also tie in there very easily

Whats also very interesting (and might play into that) is, i have never seen Dynamite do more advertising for ANY Bond Book as much as for this one. I follow them on Facebook and Twitter and in the first week or so they bombarded their followers with retweets and posts about it. You can see for yourself and just check their official Twitter- Facebook page as well as Dynamite.com and see what Banner they are currently using on any of those sites.
Solstice is still 2 month away, and just a one shot. Casino Royale for example is arriving next month already so it's a little bit odd
