2. Predators (I was surprised how much I liked this- let's see Brody lose the plot like Fishburne)
3. AVP (has some great ideas/moments, but we never really care about the cast)
4. Predator 2: Yautja in the City was inevitable- not a bad film, plus the Alien easter egg was a nice touch
5. AVPR (awesome PredAlien concept, but I couldn't see much of what was happening- the film was so dark)
As for myself, my own list matches yours entirely except that I have 1 and 2 switched.
Join the club, SKOH!
I've only seen Predator, but that was quite a long time ago now.
I was thinking about getting into the Predator/Alien franchises: which film from either would you recommend?
But the first Predator is still the best, because Jesse Ventura ain´t got time to bleed and Bill Duke is over here and bleeds ya real quiet.
I would even say Predators is a tad better than Predator 2, because of the mini gun running empty.
Which doesn´t mean Predator 2 is in any way lacking.
I ignore the rest.
@MayDayDiVicenzo, get the big Alien box set with the nine hours of extra material, it´s worth it! And I say that as a guy who doesn´t really like the bleakness of such kind of films.
2) Predator
3) Predator 2
4) AVP
5) AVP 2
Those are many of the same things I like about it: transplanting the setting to the "urban jungle," the way the violence of the gangs and the voodoo practices mirror the primal warrior nature of the yautja, expanding on what we know of the yautja's hunting culture, foreshadowing the inevitable crossover with the Alien films. Not a perfect a film, but they definitely took it in the right direction.
Nice to see the AVTAK love!
Predator (9.5) - Untouchable. 80's action sci/fi at it's finest. It has a few flaws, but the flaws that are there are negated by the awesomeness of the rest of the movie.
Predator 2 (8.5) - Not as classic as the original and Glover doesn't have the same believability to kill a predator like Arnold does, but it's still a very solid and enjoyable Predator film. the multiple predators at the end were TEETS!
Predators (6.8) - While fun and worthy of the Predators franchise, it has many glaring flaws in Yautja behavior and the lack of characters we can attach to bring this film down quite a bit.
AvP:R (5) - I enjoyed seeing this Predator kick all kinds of ass, but it seemed a bit too effortless and everything else sucked. The only reason it gets a 5 is because it restores some dignity to the idea of a Predator after AvP basically raped it.
AvP (3) - A monstrosity of a Predator film. By FAR the worst representation of the predators on screen....nuff said.
I have seen just the theatrical version. But maybe I should watch the unrated one.
2. Predator 2
3. Predators
***some distance***
4. AVP
5. AVP Requiem
The first AVP is OK though the second I think is terrible.
Predators
Predator 2
AVP
Yet to watch the last one.
Predators was very good indeed - loved it in fact.
2. Predators (2010)
--
3. Predator 2 (1990)
4. AvP: Alien vs Predator (2004)
Requim doesn't make the list, because I have not seen it.
2) Predator 2
3) AvP (not great but it entertained me more than Predators did)
4) Predators
Requiem is so crap that it doesn't deserve to be ranked with the rest of them. While I'm at it I'm going to rank the Alien films as well.
1) Alien/Aliens (I always have trouble deciding between them)
2) Alien Isolation (it's a game but it's really good, so good that I think it deserves to be ranked with the films and above the sequels; as far as I'm concerned Alien 1, 2 and Isolation are a trilogy, the sequels don't count)
3) Alien 3/Alien Ressurection (again I can't choose but this time it's because I don't enjoy either of them).
Unfortunately it wasn't dark enough for me not to understand what was going on, but yeah, this was an incredibly dark film. For a film combining two major franchises like this, AVP:R was startlingly amateurish throughout nearly all aspects of production. I remember there being some nice photography in the woods during the daylight and Brian Tyler's score rocks, but seriously, that's it. Oh yeah, and I like how they went for broke toward the end and just started killing off everyone in totally WTF ways.
Alien films:
1. Alien
2. Alien 3
3. Aliens
4. Alien: Resurrection
But as with the Bond films, I genuinely do like all of them. Just you watch me defend Alien: Resurrection. I'll do it.
Predator
AVPR
AVP
I haven't seen Predators
:-/
Predator 2
Predators
A few lightyears away
AVP
And then some lightyears more
AVP2
:P
For me these movies are a failed attempt at resurrecting two franchises while adding nothing at all.
And yes I have both in my collection being somewhat of a complimentist but I have watched these two only once while the other three movies have been seen quite often.
the AVP movies are allright I guess but do their franchise no favors at all IMHO.
A mixture of Predator and a xenomorph? Yes, because it looked suitably badass.
Was he in it? See how memorable I found the film?
