Who wouldn't be up for a 12 years commitment for a role like Bond?
I keep thinking family commitments are an issue for the longevity and popularity of the role.
Also it has to be written in the stars; more men have walked on the moon.

Surely it depends where you are in your career. And family commitments can be an issue whatever role you play in the industry. I'm no specialist, but I'd imagine a semi-famous actor would welcome the breakthrough the Bond role would give him and the advantages it would bring on long term: a secure, well paid job, easier to get other big roles, easier to get personal projects greenlit, financial stability for him and his family, etc.

One thing with ATJ is I don't know how he would look as Bond. Surely he'd be clean shaven but would he have Brosnan style longer hair or shorter Craig style hair?

If I'm honest I think he looks a bit odd with short hair, not to be rude but he doesn't look British, he almost looks American with short hair and no beard. He's a talented actor but i don't look at him and see a potential Bond

I think the longer hair and comma would work for him.
    Yes, absolutely!

Might help him look taller. IMDb says 5'11", and sometimes height gets exaggerated for people under 6'...

How did you feel about Brosnan?

The same way I felt about Roger Moore. He was the Saint to me as Brosnan was Steele. Not Bond. We'll both eventually grew on me as Bond.

Regarding a Bond of color. Fortunately, we all have free choice as to whether or not to watch these films. As much as I like to think of myself as a progressive person, I loved Wright as Felix, but I have to admit that if push comes to shove and they cast a person of color as Bond I will not be interested in following the new series of films. It just won't be Ian Fleming's James Bond to me. I also had problems with Roger Moore as Bond just because he was the Saint to me. Just a personal point of view in the same way I liked Craig as Bond but hated the universe Eon eventually created for him in his last two films. If Bond and Blofeld had been established as step foster brothers in Casino Royal I would have walked away from watching the rest of the craig films. I am so thankful they killed off Craig/Bond so that Bond could reset from what I considered to be a terminal mistake. Bond is dead, long live Bond.

Sorry, I've been away for a short while and missed some of the Bond chatter. Am I right in assuming that people are now in acceptance that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the genuine front-runner for 007 after Matthew Belloni of Puck (formerly the editor of The Hollywood Reporter) has confirmed the rumours to be true? I seem to recall some of you belittling the rumours due to the validity of the source, despite yours truly digging a little deeper to give the first rumour some authenticity. Not so cocksure now, are we?

There's something about the Broccolis in the Matthew Belloni article being slightly worried about Taylor-Johnson becoming too famous for the role should Kraven the Hunter or The Fall Guy turn him into a bona fide star. Personally, I don't think there's much chance of that happening from these two properties alone. Sure, Kraven could be a box office success but I don't see it doing the big numbers that would propell him into the stratosphere like a SpiderMan role would. Same with The Fall Guy, which is only a supporting role. Therefore, I'm going to stick my neck out and say Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be announced as the new 007 sometime in the Fall or Winter after Kraven the Hunter is released.

See you soon for more Bond speculation in the coming months, my fellow Bond aficionados. :)>-

The final prediction of the Puck article is, "23. Nobody knows anything."

I really hope this is accurate : they definitely could do worse than ATJ, but they could definitely do better.

So your hope @talos7 is that the ATJ rumours aren’t true even though the Puck guy confirmed them?

Yes, and I still find any confirmation to be dubious or at least exaggerated. ATJ may have had an informal meet and greet, as have countless actors over the years, just ask Adrian Paul, but nothing indicates that a decision has been made.

That's fair, while I probably sound biased as ATJ has always been in my top list, the fact that Aaron Taylor-Johnson's name is the one that's leaked, makes me feel like he must've made quite a big impression but while I think this, I do feel the details regarding the screen test and the gunbarrel sequence are where the exaggeration comes in, which are elements that Puck didn't even mentioned.

    @bondsum , i’m still being told ATJ hasn’t auditioned (and to date, no one has, so far), and he never shot the gun barrel;

I said back then, that doesn’t mean that ATJ hasn’t had a meeting or a dinner with BB.

What I do find strange is that Eon has had meetings with other actors, but no one is reporting on that.

We will see where this all goes.

Maybe Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the biggest name on the list or because of the extra detail of him seemingly impressing Barbara quite a bit it was the most interesting name to report?

True. Adrian's a good example of how the rumour mill works. For a long time there were rumours that Cubby'd had his eye on him for Bond since the '80s, that he'd screentested two or three times (depending on the source), that he was down to the last three when Pierce was cast and that he was Cubby's first choice to follow Brosnan, etc. But last year, Adrian himself said that he'd only ever had one meeting with Barbara Broccoli and that it didn't go very well as he'd told her that he only liked the Connery films! All the other rumours were just media fluff.

If Aaron Taylor-Johnson does get the part he'll join Craig as someone that noone ever mentioned on online forums nor on any website list of candidates.

    I don't recall Craig getting mentioned in 2004 - 2005 and ATJ was never mentioned* in 2019 - 2021.

*Someone will probably say "just to correct you... in 2020 i said Aaron Taylor-Johnson should be Bond."
    ;))

I think everyone is trying to forget 2020, particularly us Bond fans. I think we’ll have a director and a writer (who’s not P or W) by the end of the year.

Had Covid never happened, NTTD would have battled Sonic the Hedgehog at the box office. Bond vs a furry animal!

The first 'delayed' release date was February 14th 2020. The same day as Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic did keep it release date. No Time To Die was the first big budget theatrical release to be delayed. It will be three years ago next month that it all kicked off. Lockdowns, delays, masks 😷. A strange (depressing) time.

I am trying to warm to Aaron Taylor Johnson I really am I just don’t get what he will bring to the roll and which former bond actor he would be most like… after rewatching him in trailers of films I saw him in I am actually getting a George Lazenby vibe which I don’t know how to feel about

@peter Do you know the names of other actors who may have had meet and greets with Barbara and Michael?

Without screentests I can’t see them awarding the role to any actor; even prior to Craig being cast, at least a half dozen actually tested.

My guess is testing will begin toward the end of this year unless they really want the film out in 2024 to coincide with the game I believe which would mean that maybe they will begin tests in march…

My guess is we will know the director first

As for who else they have met with that should be easy to figure out who else has been to Eon events like the sound of 007 find them and you have the short list

I have only been told that pre-Christmas there were actors having meetings with Eon. I wasn't privy to names, except the obvious one that everyone has read about (ATJ).

yes @talos7 , no one will be cast without auditions.

And I was told again when I point blank asked about ATJ; a terse text that read: no one has been chosen.

And then this person reminded me of the order of how this will get done: script first-- above all else(I think I'm almost wearing out my welcome with my friend, lol!). But they are adamant that no one has been chosen and won't be even auditioned until there is a script (which I hear is soon to be, or about to be started)

I reckon the biggest take-away from all this is it's just too early for anything concrete to come out yet. As I've said in the past I doubt ATJ will ultimately get the part, but it's not beyond plausibility that he's had a meeting with the producers or whatever.

To be honest until a confirmed piece of news has come out (ie. a statement from producers or whatever) my instinct is just to be sceptical.

You're welcome @MaxCasino ... As I said to Denbigh, the biggest take away is that things are rolling at Eon HQ and have been since seemingly October.

I honestly don't know how anything will shake out, but it's pretty clear that meet and greets have taken place; ATJ is (obviously) a candidate, as others who've met with the producers, (ATJ may become the next James Bond, but, as was reminded to me today, and is food for thought: Craig was supposedly Barbara Broccoli's one and only, but she didn't tell anyone then--and certainly not the actor himself. Why would she let anyone, and especially ATJ, know of his front leading status, especially since the actor will still have to go through a rigorous audition process? So, as I was warned: someone else is planting ATJ's status (and it isn't coming out of Eon HQ as that's an exclusive and small group working on this at the moment). This warning was very telling to read, and I repeated this to a few other readers of this site. Certainly gives pause). No one has auditioned, no one shot a gun barrel, and the role is still won during the audition process, which won't begin until the script is in working order...

There are a lot of moving parts, but it's clear Eon is hard at work.
