"Last week, I literally decided that I was ready," he added. "Now they may or may not be interested, and that’s totally fine... It doesn’t matter if you do it or not, but it’s important to listen to the cycles of life and understand the universe is always on time, just sometimes you and I are a bit early or a bit late."

Awesome. But of course, EON won't act fast and snatch him up. It's not in Barbara or Michael's character to act fast. 😅

0.40: 'They were floating this idea that the next James Bond would be plucked at an early age out of the naval academy and they had all these great ideas, like that Bond himself was going to pick the next candidate to fill the role of 007.' Kripes.

I wonder what that means: pick the next 007?

I'm not quite sure what he meant with that either. Not sure if he misspoke or misremembered something, or if it was some sort of early idea that didn't make it into the script (it also seems like he heard this idea second hand, so it might be a 'take with a pinch of salt' situation). I'd heard that story about his response to that question before! It seems they were looking for something particular (I know Craig said he explicitly wanted to do his own thing with the character - strip it back, give it more an edge etc. Which I guess is more the sort of response they were looking for).

Picking the next 007 could either refer to selecting the next actor to portray Bond or it literally could me selecting the next 007; while James Bond is not a code name, there may have been an an a previous 007 who died or retired.

I can see them doing a thing in the future where a previous 007 to Bond is referenced (could even be the villain if they wanted to re-explore the rogue 00 concept). Anyway, I’d be interested to know more of the stuff about those early CR drafts. It seems they really backtracked on the young Bond stuff. Interestingly from what they’ve said this time round they seem to ideally want an actor in the mid 30s range rather than 20s or early 30s, and much of it seems to come down to younger actors not quite being up to it.

I suspect he just used 'James Bond' and '007' interchangeably, tbh, so it sounds like they could've been thinking of going full-on codename - the retiring agent codenamed 'James Bond' choosing his own replacement to be the next one to carry the codename, 'James Bond.' I'm glad that one didn't go any further!

Maybe he was playing the story for laughs, but I did think that surely all actors would think to say that they want to make the character more human, more relatable, more vulnerable etc.? You would think that would just be a default thing to say if anything, actors usually want to play real emotions. I'd be amazed if anyone said they wanted to make him more of a comedy character and less realistic.

I doubt it's that but you're probably right that we was thinking of the previous 007 picking Bond to be the next one, if it is that then what he's describing sounds a lot like Michael Wilson's original plans for what became Living Daylights with a young Bond fresh out of the Navy and the old 007.

True, although I think even just saying that wouldn't have been very specific. With CR being the story it likely would have been a bit obvious too. I remember Craig during an interview joking that he wanted to approach Bond by being 'humourless' (which again is a joke and I'd say not wholly indicative of his portrayal, but it very much gives you an idea of that harder edge/what exactly his different take on the character was, which made his portrayal unique).

I saw it mentioned online that 26 year old British actor Harry Lawley might make an impression on EON as the next Bond.
The 6’2” actor who hails from Oxford, played Harvey Dent in the latest Joker movie, and will soon be seen playing young Richard Burton in the biopic Mr.Burton alongside Toby Jones.

    Could be one to watch.

Well, they’re not “yet” near ready to begin filming.
I see potential; he has a good voice.

He's come up before in this thread and, as I said, then, I think he's a very engaging actor and felt like a bit of a star in the making. He is quite a slim guy, even slighter than Pierce; I guess that's not necessarily a problem but he's not the usual Bond build perhaps.

Obviously the last time he was mentioned a certain poster assured us he wasn't attractive at all ;)

I'm sure the next actor will go to the gym to prepare for the role. An actor cannot be taller but he can be stronger.

Lol. Yeah. I remember. The poster posted bad pics of him, then another poster posted Bondian pics of him.
Yeah, I also think Lawley's got something about him.

Nah. Young actors won't know anything different to do with the part.
I like his voice and mannerisms, and he’s a good looking guy. I don’t think being slim is a problem and working out is something the next actor will very likely do anyway. He’s also 28 I think, so while young he might have a year or two to mature.

My only issue is I haven’t seen him in anything that’s left an impression on me so far. But then again I didn’t think there was anything bad about him in Joker 2 IIRC, which is a win. One to keep an eye on I guess.

With 10 to 15 pounds of quality weight, and a proper haircut, he would have a great look for Bond.

I'm really not convinced with his voice. It lacks maturity now, I think. He's too young, but at the rate things are going, he might be the right when they do casting.

I must say that even though Lawtey has been mentioned in the past, he wasn’t really on my radar as a contender; this is quickly changing. EoN should have him in its sights.

Watch this trailer, for what looks like a wonderful film, until the end ; his transformation is impressive.

An old name to drag up - Harry Lloyd was mentioned quite a while ago and at the time I thought no chance. He has been appearing in the new series Prime Target as an NSA agent with a bit of "B@stard" in him and whilst not necessarily saying he is the right man he certainly looks and acts differently from a few years ago.

I like him (particularly in the cancelled show Counterpart), but he's already over 40.

Wow i didnt check his age. He could easily pass for early 30s without looking boyish.

I can definetely see Harry Lawtey in the role. He has the right look, voice and presence given the clips I've seen. He could bulk up as well

Similar to Leo Suter, he'll become more suitable as he gets into his 30's

Agreed re Harry Lawtey. First time I've noted it about one of the younger actors who've been touted on this page

How I love Richard Burton. I want to see that movie!
Harry has potential, just still looks too young to me.

He’s pushing 30; a few additional, quality pounds will give him a more mature look.

    Youth is an asset.
