He's a bit of a Brosnan, isn't he? Probably not going to win any major acting awards (apart from his 2015 Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Liplock, of course), but seems to fill the role he's asked to play.
For me - again like Brosnan - he's a bit too beautiful for the role, but that's a very weird criticism to have, really. If you look at him and someone said "That's James Bond" most people probably wouldn't doubt it for a second.

I get a Clive Owen impression off of James personally. He’s a good actor but there’s something a bit ‘ordinary’ about him which I don’t think is a good quality in Bond. The sort of thing where in theory you could argue he could do it, but in practice I don’t think he quite has the charisma or gravitas for it. But honestly, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt if he were cast.

There are far more complimentary photos of him without stubble

I’m curious, are you not a fan?

I go back and forth and try to learn a bit about and watch performances of the names that are being suggested but I just keep coming back to Theo James.

I wasn’t really keen on him until I saw The Gentlemen. I thought his energy would be more like Brosnan or Cavil, which would bore me to death but frequently throughout that show he reminded me of Timothy Dalton but with a bit more of a contemporary cool-factor/sex appeal

I think Theo James would be a great choice personally, he's on a Range Rover advert that's on all the time in the UK.

My only reservation with Theo James is what does he look like without his beard/heavy stubble?

He looks like a boyband member.

Well, It's better than looking like a hobbit.

Nope. Still too pretty, boybandish and a bit Gareth Southgate.

    Hardly….

And he’s not going to get any younger looking.

I think there are certain people who will only be satisfied with the selection of an actor who is “ non-traditional “ , out of left field and maybe even “ quirky “ .

Are you guys just talking about looks again?

I don't really care what he looks like as long as he's a good-looking fella; I would prefer a slightly more interesting actor in terms of talent to Theo, but he's not terrible so I wouldn't exactly boycott it if he were chosen and there are certainly worse choices.

A cgi hologram of Roger Moore dubbed by Nikki van der Zyl.

    Job done.

    Looks aside…
Outside of “ The Gentlemen “ I can’t say that I’ve seen anything else in which he’s appeared; but based on that lone performance he is more than capable of playing Bond.

I’m not sure if I’d call Theo James a traditional Bond candidate necessarily. He’s not super left field or anything but he’s not quite a Henry Cavill either.

Anyway, I just can’t see him turning heads as he walks into a casino in a tux. He’s just a bit… well, ordinary as I said before. Not to say he’s a bad actor (far from it) and he’s a good looking guy. But whenever I see him in those car ads or even in The Gentleman doing vaguely Bondian stuff I get more a sense he’s pretending rather than authentically playing that sort of character. It might be his natural presence as an actor, or it may well be he’s not an overly interesting actor in general (more effective than a stand out). It’s why I said he gives me Clive Owen vibes - even when he was doing a Bond pastiche in Pink Panther 2 something about it didn’t quite feel authentic. I think a Bond actor has to really inhabit the part to the point the character’s witticisms, confidence, swagger, and sex appeal just kinda fit them like a glove. It’s certainly something that Brosnan and Craig did so well.

But I’m happy to be proven wrong if he’s picked. Honestly.

That's pretty much my feeling for every actor suggested if I'm not adamantly against them: I'm happy to be proven wrong.
